Esther Kimani, a pineer in agritech, is changing the lives f farmers acrss Africa. As the funder f Farmer
Lifeline Technlgies (FLT), she has applied artificial intelligence (AI) t fight against crp pests (害 虫 ) and
      第 4页/共 13页
diseases, significantly reducing lsses fr rural farmers.
Kimani’s jurney began in a small Kenyan village n the Aberdare Muntains. Witnessing first-hand the
severe impact f pests and diseases n their crps — and cnsequently, their incme — she understd early
hw agricultural lsses culd mean unmet basic needs like schl fees and healthcare. Despite these challenges,
Kimani became the first girl frm her village t attend university, studying cmputer science. It was there that she
recgnized the ptential f technlgy t slve rural farmers’ struggles, and that’s hw FLT was brn.
In Kenya alne, 7.5 millin smallhlder farmers lse up t 50% f their yields (产量) t pests and diseases
annually — lsses that culd feed millins. Traditinal slutins like hiring agricultural cnsultants r using
drnes (无人机) are t expensive. T slve this critical issue, she develped an AI-pwered camera, which is set
up n farms at n upfrnt cst. It scans crps cntinuusly and warns farmers thrugh Shrt Message Service (SMS)
when pests r diseases are detected.
A key fcus fr Kimani is supprting wmen farmers, wh make up 43% f the agricultural labr frce in
develping natins, but wh ften lack access t technlgy. “Men in rural cmmunities tend t have smartphnes,
while wmen rely n basic feature phnes,” she ntes. “Thrugh SMS, we ensure wmen aren’t left behind.”
Kimani’s innvatin has already impacted thusands f farmers, 78% f whm have reprted a yield increase
f ver 36%. Her team aims t reach 200 thusand farms acrss the cuntry within 5 years. Fr Kimani, success in
2030 means seeing 200 thusand smallhlder farmers living with dignity — affrding educatin, healthcare, and
financial stability thrugh imprved yields. Kimani is nt just building a cmpany; she’s reshaping the future f
      African agriculture.
      24. Why did Kimani establish FLT?
      A. T fund rural farmers. B. T expand AI industry.
      C. T decrease crp lsses. D. T research crp varieties.
      25. Hw des the AI camera assist farmers?
      A. By linking them t cnsultants. B. By sending them early warnings.
      C. By using drnes t mnitr crps. D. By driving pests away autmatically.
      26. What is an advantage f Kimani’s innvatin?
      A. Equal accessibility. B. Easy maintenance.
      C. Enrmus fd strage. D. Persnalized service.
      27. What can be inferred frm the last paragraph?
      A. Financial plans affect agriculture.
      第 5页/共 13页
      B. Kimani will affrd further educatin.
      C. African agriculture will emerge as a leader.
      D. Kimani’s creativity fuels a prmising future.
      C
Being self-emplyed, I ften check my bank balance, feeling relief when payments are received and anxiety
when bills empty my accunt. Mney’s ups and dwns strngly affect my md, especially during the hlidays,
when every festival activity seems t cme with a price tag. Despite my financial stability — wning a hme with
my wife, lw csts, and savings — mney ften feels like an emtinal burden.
Elizabeth Husserl, authr f The Pwer f Enugh: Finding Jy in Yur Relatinship with Mney, explains
that mney is deeply persnal. “The same amunt means different things based n lifestyles and chices,” she says.
Rising expenses can cause anxiety and lead peple t fcus t much n making r saving mney, taking attentin
away frm ther imprtant aspects f life. This pursuit can harm mental health, creating a life where mney
becmes bth a scapegat (替罪羊) and a distractin frm unmet emtinal needs.
Husserl highlights that while financial security frms a baseline, mney alne cannt bring satisfactin. Sme
peple spend their lives saving withut enjying the fruits f their labr, while thers turn t emtinal spending,
like shpping, t deal with stress, cvering deeper issues like lneliness r a lack f purpse. True wealth, she
argues, cmes frm recgnizing these emtinal drives and matching finances with life pririties.
T build a healthier relatinship with mney, Husserl recmmends understanding the emtinal reasns
behind spending, setting clear pririties, and redefining wealth. Practical steps include jurnaling abut feelings
tward mney and taking the time t evaluate the value f purchases. Bradening the definitin f wealth t
include relatinships, health, and purpse helps balance financial gals with persnal well-being.
Talking t Husserl shifted my view. While hliday spending remains a cncern, I’ve begun t see it as typical
fr the seasn and feel mre cnfident in recvering financially. Thugh my bank app desn’t always bring jy, it’s
a reminder f what truly makes me feel rich.
      28. Why des the writer mentin checking his bank balance regularly?
      A. T track his savings prgress. B. T manage his hliday spending.
      C. T relieve his stress abut finances. D. T shw mney’s emtinal effect n him.
      29. What des fcusing t much n mney lead t?
      A. Satisfied life. B. Emtinal burden. C. Increased savings. D. Financial insecurity.
      30. What des Husserl think f emtinal spending?
      第 6页/共 13页
      A. It’s a strategy fr dealing with stress. B. It’s an apprach t financial pririties.
      C. It’s a temprary relief withut reslutin. D. It’s a way t manage emtinal well-being.
      31. What is the secret t building a healthy relatinship with mney?
      A. Balancing wealth with persnal happiness.
      B. Setting clear pririties fr financial security.
      C. Identifying the emtinal causes f spending.
      D. Fcusing n saving and the value f purchases.

With grwing glbal energy demands and munting cncerns ver pllutin and climate change, the shift t
clean energy surces is imprtant. While nuclear, wind, and slar energy have played significant rles as
alternatives t fssil fuels, hydrgen energy is emerging as a key player in achieving carbn neutrality (碳中和).
Accrding t Prfessr Liu Lifeng, hydrgen has the ptential t decarbnize energy — intensive industries, thus
cntributing t net-zer emissin (净零排放) gals.
Hwever, traditinal hydrgen prductin methds are infamus fr their significant envirnmental impact. A
cleaner and mre sustainable apprach invlves prducing hydrgen frm water thrugh electrlysis (电 解 ).
Renewable energy-pwered electrlysis is a prmising methd fr prducing “green” hydrgen, but freshwater
      shrtage may stp large-scale expansin.
T address this challenge, Liu’s team has pineered a way t prduce hydrgen frm seawater. Seawater
electrlysis, hwever, faces prblems due t the presence f mixtures, which increase energy cnsumptin and
cause side reactins. T vercme these barriers, the team prpsed a rather ingenius strategy invlving the
additin f hydrazine (肼) t seawater t enhance efficiency. Additinally, they chse platinum-tellurium fil, a
highly effective catalyst (催化剂) that imprves the prcess withut causing harmful chemical side effects.
Their innvative device has prduced prmising results. This means that hydrgen can be prduced frm
seawater withut requiring external electricity, hence lwering prductin csts and imprving flexibility in
      real-wrld applicatins.
Despite this significant breakthrugh, challenges remain. Platinum, thugh an effective catalyst, is bth cstly
and envirnmentally damaging t mine. The team is actively wrking t develp nn-platinum catalysts that are
bth efficient and sustainable. Furthermre, hydrazine, althugh effective in reducing energy cnsumptin, is
highly harmful t human health. Future research will fcus n identifying safer alternatives t hydrazine and further
making use f the technlgy t ensure clean and sustainable hydrgen prductin.
      第 7页/共 13页
      32. Why is hydrgen energy unique?
      A. It is rare n the earth. B. It csts less t prduce.
      C. It reduces carbn emissin. D. It needs n tech advancement.
      33. What des the underlined wrd “ingenius” prbably mean in paragraph 3?
      A. Lng-term. B. Brilliant. C. Cmplicated. D. Cnventinal.
      34. What can we learn abut seawater electrlysis?
      A. Hydrazine is safe enugh fr widespread use.
      B. It has cmpletely slved the freshwater shrtage.
      C. It can perate n its wn withut needing energy.
      D. The current catalyst is cstly and bad fr the envirnment.
      35. What is the text mainly abut?
      A. The cmbined impacts f varius energy surces.
      B. A breakthrugh in hydrgen prductin frm seawater.
      C. The ways t cut the cst f seawater hydrgen prductin.
      D. The wide applicatin f renewable energy-pwered electrlysis.

My name is Helen, a middle-aged British wman. I had gne thrugh several difficult mnths and ended up

Then I decided t give helicpters (直升机) a try, nly t find I enjyed them even mre. S, despite having
prmised all my friends that I wuldn’t pursue it further, I ended up earning my private pilt’s license fr

I was aware that many peple at ur lcal airfield were taking cmmercial flying exams - sme aiming t
becme cmmercial pilts, and thers hping t becme instructrs. That gave me an idea: maybe, just maybe, I
culd becme a helicpter instructr myself. That way, I culd fly fr free and even get paid fr it.
I went ahead with my plan pretty quickly, but I wasn’t prepared fr sme f the reactins I gt. My friends
culdn’t believe I was serius. My bss at wrk said, “Oh, dn’t be silly, Helen! Yu can’t pssibly becme a
cmmercial helicpter pilt.” That was clearly what thers were thinking t — they were just t plite t say it
ut lud. At first, I thught it was because f my age. After all, I was well ver 40, which isn’t the typical time t
start a new career. But even s, why such strng reactins?
