The restaurant became very ppular.
But summer was different. When the weather grew ht, Masn refused the sup his mum ffered. He always said, “N, thank yu,” and pushed the bwl away plitely. Custmers felt the same. In the summer, nly a few custmers came in. Mrs Martin wrried a lt. If business (生意) did nt get better, she might have t clse the restaurant.
One very ht day, Masn sat in the ice-cream shp with his friends Sam, Jake, and Le. The bys wanted t get away frm the heat utside. His friends laughed, but Masn ran ut the dr tward the restaurant.
He tld his mther his plan: t serve ice - cream sups in summer. At first, she was nt sure, but then she began t smile. The mre she thught abut it, the better it sunded. Sn, she decided t try it ut.
The new menu was a success. Peple lined up fr bwls f mint-chclate dream, duble berry, and ther sweet flavrs (味道). Even Masn’s friends came ften.
That summer, Masn’s clever idea saved Sup and Quackers.

In 2013, the Wrld Health Organizatin (WHO) set a big gal: by 2025 cut glbal physical inactivity by 10%. Nw the time is up, but peple are less active than befre. In 2010, nly a few peple exercised enugh. The situatin fr teenagers is even wrse—81% f them d nt get enugh activity. We are nt just failing t meet the gal; we are ding wrse and wrse.
Why did this happen? There are many reasns, such as health plicies (政策) and city design. But sme experts ask a basic questin: have we always encuraged peple t exercise in the wrng way? Fr many years, peple are always tld “exercise is medicine.” They say being active can stp diseases like heart prblems. This idea is supprted by strng science, s we think gd health is the best reasn t exercise.
But Benjamin Rigby, a health researcher frm the UK, has a different idea. He says using exercise nly t fight disease is t simple. Peple mve fr many happy reasns: t play, laugh, explre, dance and feel gd abut themselves. These fun and psitive reasns are nt included in health messages, s peple d nt care abut them. Many studies agree with this idea. Researchers frm the University f Edinburgh studied 123 reprts and fund that health is nt the main reasn peple start t exercise.
Based n these new findings, the best messages t encurage peple t exercise shuld fcus n shrt-term jys: feeling gd, cutting stress and having fun with friends, instead f the danger f getting sick many years later. S what might health messaging that fcuses n the immediate benefits f physical activity lk like? Fr example, sme researchers suggest phrases “a little mvement makes yu feel happier” r “exercise helps yu stay with friends.”
Strng evidence (证据) als shws peple keep exercising when it is enjyable. Fr example, the game Pkémn GO became hugely ppular arund the wrld. Peple lved it s much that they walked abut 1,473 mre steps each day just fr fun. Nwadays, many peple als enjy cycling in parks n weekends; they ride nt fr health, but t enjy fresh air, beautiful views and happy time with family. S why dn’t public health messages use this happy idea?
20.Accrding t the first three paragraphs, which f the fllwing is TRUE?
      A. Mst peple in 2010 gt enugh exercise.

In tday’s high-speed wrld, it’s easy t get caught up in the daily tasks and frget abut thse that bring us jy. As yu create yur gals fr 2025, cnsider adding ne t experience mre flw. Psychlgist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi has called flw “the secret t happiness”. Flw is a state f psitive experience which is characterized by great jy that makes a life wrth living. Each f us can bring it int ur everyday lives.
      the bk named Flw
When peple feel flw, they are in a state f strng fcus. Their thughts center n an experience rather than n themselves. They lse a sense f time and feel as if their actins and awareness becme ne. Flw appears when bth the task’s challenge and skill level are high. Peple will nt feel flw when they are ding the dishes. Csikszentmihalyi’s research in the 1970s was aimed at peple ding tasks they enjyed. He studied swimmers, music cmpsers, dancers, muntain climbers and ther athletes. He fund ut that as lng as that task’s challenge is high, and s are yur skills, yu shuld be able t achieve flw.

Research shws that taking a break t feel flw can imprve ne’s self-cntrl, gal-achieving and well-being. A recent study als shws that flw culd make peple resilient in the face f difficulty. Part f this is because flw can help redirect thughts away frm smething stressful t smething enjyable. In fact, studies have shwn that experiencing flw can help guard against sadness and burnut.
What is ging n in the brain during flw? Studies shw that the experience is cnnected with increasing excitement in brain parts related t feeling satisfied. This may be ne reasn why flw feels s enjyable and why peple are s fcused n tasks that make them feel flw. Research als shws that when peple are in “flw”, there’s less activity in brain parts that deal with self-fcus and negative thughts. This may help explain why feeling flw can help distract (转移) peple frm wrry. Hwever, the abve-mentined studies were related, nt causal (随意的). Further study f this cnnectin is f great imprtance.

      27.ROOTS & SHOOTS
Mst peple suffer frm what is called “Just-me-ism”. This is the idea that ne persn’s small wrng actins make n difference. Yu knw wasting water, leaving lights n r littering is wrng, but yu think: “I’m just me. What harm can it d?” If nly a few peple thught this way, it wuld be fine. But when millins f peple d the same, it causes serius waste and harm t the wrld.
T encurage yung peple t take actin fr the envirnment, animals and their cmmunity, Rts & Shts was started. This institute (协会) was set up in the early 1990s by Dr. Jane Gdall, a scientist wh’s the wrld’s best-knwn expert n wild chimpanzees. In additin t her research, she tries her best t prtect the envirnment. The whle purpse f Rts & Shts is t educate yung peple, frm preschlers t university students, s they can help t build a future that is secure and live tgether in peace with nature.
The rganizatin is called Rts & Shts because rts mve slwly under the grund t make a firm fundatin (基础), and shts seem small and weak, but they can break pen brick walls t reach the light. The rts and shts are yu, yur friends and yung peple all arund the wrld. Hundreds and thusands f rts and shts can slve the prblems, change the wrld and make it a better place t live in.
D yu think yu help t make the wrld a better place when yu make a sad persn smile, when yu make a dg wag its tail, and when yu water a thirsty plant? One cheered-up persn, ne happy dg, ne flwering plant, and that’s what Rts & Shts is all the value and imprtance f each individual (个人) — human, animal r plant. Dr. Jane Gdall believes that the mst imprtant thing is this: “Every individual matters. Every individual has a rle t play. Every individual makes a difference.” Yu get t chse: D yu want t use yur life t make the wrld a better place fr peple, animals and the envirnment? D yu want t make Rts & Shts rted in everyne’s heart? D yu want t be a part f a cmmunity fr a shared future? Yu cannt be absent.
It is by acting tgether, in this exciting way, that we can invlve thusands — millins — f peple, and this is what is ging t change the wrld.
