      Every Saturday, at a church in Gthenburg, Sweden, hundreds f peple f all ages and backgrunds gather. They speak mre than 20 languages. As they prepare their instruments, a smiling man walks in. He greets everyne, steps nt the stage, and raises his batn (指挥棒). Music fills the rm.

      Whales live in ceans all ver the wrld. Many species are increasing in number because many cuntries have stpped hunting them. Hwever, sme species are still endangered. Tday, ne f the biggest threats t whales is cllisins (碰撞事故) with ships.
      Ship cllisins kill mre than 20,000 whales every year, and this is a glbal prblem. Ocean traffic is expected t grw by at least 240 percent by 2050, which will make cllisins with whales even mre likely. But a prgram called Whale Safe, recently tested in Nrth American waters, can help prtect whales frm ships.
      Whale Safe was started n the West Cast f the US in 2020 after an increase in whale cllisins. The lead scientist f Whale Safe said that fr every dead whale fund, 10 mre were believed t die withut being recrded. Althugh there was a vluntary speed limit fr ships, the team thught that warning ships abut nearby whales culd help reduce speeds and save mre whales.
      Whale Safe uses special buys (浮标) with micrphnes t listen fr whale sunds in the cean. These buys can separate whale calls frm ther cean nises. The technlgy was develped by Mark Baumgartner at Wds Hle Oceangraphic Institutin in Massachusetts. When whales are detected, the infrmatin is sent t nearby ships t warn them t slw dwn. The team als tracks ship speeds using a tracking system.
      This prgram has wrked very well. In Califrnia’s Santa Barbara Channel, a place knwn fr many whale cllisins, the number f ships that slwed dwn increased frm 46 percent in 2019 t 63.5 percent in 2023.

Interestingly, they fund that certain grups f lder adults benefited mre frm the use f the Internet than thers. Fr example, lder adults wh did fewer scial activities r tk part in less physical exercise experienced greater psitive effects. Similarly, peple with disabilities and thse with higher educatin levels als gt strnger benefits. The psitive effects were strnger amng peple wh used the Internet every day.

It was a way t keep ur family bnd strng and t pass dwn the traditin t the next generatin. As we sat tgether, enjying the ppcrn and each ther’s cmpany, I realized hw imprtant these mments are. They are the threads that weave the fabric f ur family histry, creating memries that will last a lifetime.
