This std nt nly as a persnal victry but as a crucial change in the directin f my life.
I’ve been running since I was a yung child. It began thrugh the influence f my grandfather, wh always pus

carried int bth my running career and my life.
Running became my healing, my escape, and eventually my passin. I never had a cach r frmal training pla

I decided t pursue marathn training at 22, thugh I did nt knw exactly what t expect. I knew I wanted t
push myself and see what I was capable f. My training was a cmbinatin f discipline and insight. I pushed my b
dy mnth after mnth and trusted the years f mvement already settled int my muscles. When race day came, I
was nervus but ready.
My first marathn was mre than a race-it was a true awakening. Nw, I’m building smething that helps the

Killer whales in the castal waters ff Washingtn have been seen massaging each ther by rubbing pieces f
kelp (海带) between their bdies. Researchers filmed the animals selecting and biting ff the k elp int lng, thin pi
eces, then placing ne piece nt the back f anther whale. The scientists think this might have a health r cleanlin
ess functin, but they als believe they are a frm f scial bnding. The findings appear t be an example f tl u
se in whales, with the animals fashining a piece f kelp and using it fr a planned purpse.
During 12 days f studying a ppulatin f killer whales, the team recrded 30 times f kelp massage. “We se
e it multiple times per day,” said lead researcher Dr Weiss. This culd be a marine versin f behaviur seen in m
nkeys, where animals spend hurs picking thrugh fur, cleaning and remving harmful insects. Physical tuch in an
imals is imprtant fr building and maintaining scial relatinships, and killer whales are highly scial animals.
The view frm the air has prvided new insight int underwater behaviur, including hw the animals interact.
High-quality vide shwed that whales with rugher skin were mre likely t engage in the behaviur, suggesting i
t may help with skin health. It is nt yet clear whether this behaviur is unique t this grup r mre widespread am
ng ther whale ppulatins. Hwever, scientists say the discvery is exciting, as these bjects were being used in
a way never befre reprted in marine mammals.
The study f this threatened killer whale ppulatin was started by Dr Balcmb mre than 50 years ag. Initial
ly, he wanted t examine the threats t their survival, particularly as the ppulatin was targeted fr capture and sal
e t sme marine parks. Lng-term research n this ppulatin has revealed many insights int their scial structur
e, and this new finding highlights the cmplexity f their sciety and the imprtance f prtecting them.
28. What are the killer whales bserved ding in paragraph 1?
A. Using kelp t feed each ther.
B. Shaping kelp t rub anther whale.
C. Cllecting kelp frm the cean flr.
D. Teaching yung whales t clean with kelp.
29. What can be inferred abut killer whales in cmparisn with mnkeys?
A. They use tls mre ften. B. They rely less n interactin.
C. They are physically far strnger. D. They shw similar scial behaviurs.
30. Why d scientists cnsider the discvery exciting?
A. It prvides clear vide evidence.
B. It suggests rubbing is cmmn amng whales.
C. It is the first reprt f such tl use in marine mammals.
D. It explains why whales with skin prblems behave this way.
31. Which is the mst suitable title fr the text?
A. Killer Whales Use Tls fr Scial Purpses
B. The Rle f Fd in Whales’ Cmmunicatin
C. A Behaviur Observed in Killer Whales Hunting

Graphene (石墨烯) is based n carbn and is ften described as a wnder material: it’s super strng, super lig
ht, and an excellent cnductr f heat and electricity. It’s already widely used and prmises t significantly imprv
e cnsumer electrnics in the future. Hwever, prducing graphene n a large scale remains difficult and expensiv
e, which has led researchers t explre alternative methds.
Led by a team frm the University f New Suth Wales, the new research shws that the peanut shell has the
ptential t bst graphene prductin, and in a way that’s cheaper and mre ec-friendly than sme traditinal gra
phene making methds. Wrldwide peanut prductin results in mre than 10 millin tns f waste piling up each
year. Key t the prcess is the natural material called lignin (木质素), which is packed with carbn. It was already
knwn t be present in peanut shells, but the researchers had t figure ut the best way t prcess it.
The researchers first prepared the peanut shells thrugh a cntrlled heating prcess t remve unwanted subst
ances. They then applied a technique knwn as flash heating, which uses electricity t raise the temperature t ver
3,000°C within millisecnds. This rapid heating rearranges the structures f peanut shells. “That prcess is vital t
give us the best carbn-rich material t help ensure there are few imperfectins in the final graphene and that it is in
deed just a single layer,” says Yeh.
Althugh the peanut-shell-t-graphene line has been experimented with befre, this study highlights hw caref
ully cntrlling the starting material can significantly imprve the resulting graphene quality. That’s nt t say the
prcess is perfect yet, thugh. The resulting graphene material scres highly in terms f quality but is typically cm
psed f a few graphene layers in a disrdered way, and the technique culd take three t fur years t expand fr l
arger use, the researchers nte. Wrk t further refine the prcess frm this lab-based prf f cncept will cntinu
e, and researchers are nw explring whether similar methds culd be applied t ther materials such as cffee gr
unds r banana peels.
32. What is the main purpse f the first paragraph?
A. T explain hw graphene is prduced.
B. T cmpare graphene with ther materials.
C. T describe the histry f graphene research.
D. T intrduce graphene’s functin and limitatin.
33. What makes peanut shells suitable fr graphene prductin?
A. Their light weight nature. B. Their carbn cntent.
C. Their health-friendly feature. D. Their large yearly utput.
34. What is the functin f the flash heating?
A. Structuring. B. Remving. C. Cleaning. D. Packing.
35. What is the authr’s attitude tward the current research?
A. Uninterested in its practical use.
B. Dubtful abut its future value.
C. Psitive but aware f its limitatins.
D. Cmpletely satisfied with its results.
