Fr the past 20 years, Reckning Theater (心目影院) in Beijing has been describing mvies—telling abut the pictures—t its listeners.
That’s because its listeners are all blind peple. Xia Huanyi is ne f the theater’s regular visitrs. The 65-year-ld man was brn blind. “I wasn’t interested in mvies at first,” he said. “I used t listen t stries n the radi. Reckning Theater is different. It describes the pictures. That is imprtant.”
Places that meet blind peple’s needs are hard t find. By 2021, ver 17 millin peple in China were blind r nearly blind. Reckning Theater was started by Wang Weili in 2005.
