and clse bservatin f farmers’ life gave him a deep understanding f the needs f rdinary peple. He learned t
see beauty in simplicity and t value the cnnectin between humans and the envirnment—lessns that wuld
becme the cre f his building idea.
Liu’s wrks are famus fr cmbining traditin with mdernity and respecting the lcal envirnment. He
advcates the “lw-tech strategy”, using lcal and cheap materials t create cmfrtable and practical spaces. He

Play is ften seen as an activity fr children, smething t be bxed up and stred alngside childhd tys as

in advance frm ur shared calendar. But what if we’ve gtten it all wrng? What if grwn - ups need t play just
as much as children, if nt mre? Answers can be fund in their craze fr tys and playful activities.
Recently, researchers have explred the reasns behind this “kidult” trend. A glbal survey f 2, 680 adults

lnging fr childhd memries. Fr many, tys act as time capsules (时 光 胶 囊 ), transprting them back t
carefree times and ffering an escape frm the stress f mdern adult life. Beynd that, adults turn t tys fr
creativity—47% f them valued the chance t keep their imaginatin alive.
Tys and play als serve as vital scial cnnectrs. Online marketplaces and scial media have built
cmmunities arund classic tys r bard games, while ty meetings and in-persn game nights bring like-minded
peple tgether. These spaces and playful activities imprve cnnectin withut the pressure f frmal scial
interactin.
The research highlights the vital benefits f play fr adults. Unlike passive screen time, tactile play such as
building blcks, playing bard games r shting pl develps brain functin—activating parts f the brain fr
prblem-slving, critical thinking and spatial reasning. Play als relieves stress by releasing endrphins (内啡肽),
and brings a sense f achievement.
Scietal attitudes have als shifted. Fr decades, ur cultures related adulthd t seriusness, viewing adult
play as childish. But this is fading as the “kidult” trend grws and the mental health benefits f play are better
understd. Ty makers have nted: adults are willing t pay a sum fr tys that spark childhd memries.

A wrld withut plastics seems unimaginable tday. But in the wrld where waste is becming an
increasingly pressing issue, new technlgies and crss-sectr (跨领域) cperatin are in great need t address
bth envirnmental challenges and lng-term develpment needs.
Scientists and engineers are wrking tgether t slve waste - related issues. In Shenzhen, the frmer Yulng
landfill—nce a “trash muntain”—is underging China’s largest full-clearance prject. Equipped with
AI-pwered systems, it srts 6, 000 cubic meters f waste daily with 98% accuracy and generates 100 millin kWh
f electricity, pwering 26, 000 husehlds a year. The prject will free 300, 000 square meters fr an AI-fcused
tech centre. China leads the waste-t-energy sectr with 1,010 incineratin enterprises (焚化企业), accunting fr
nearly half the glbal ttal.
On the glbal frnt, plastic waste causes a severe threat: last year saw 4.14 billin tns f plastic, but nly 12%
was effectively recycled. Researchers are nw using technlgies like deplymerizatin (解 聚 ) t break dwn
plastics. These technlgies vercme the limitatins f existing methds. AI plays a key rle t: intelligent
rbts easily identify PET, HDPE, and plylefins, slving mixed plastic srting difficulties. “Waste is never just
garbage—it’s unused resurces t be harvested,” says envirnmental scientist Bhan Chen. Frm landfill t
advanced recycling, China’s effrts prve envirnmental prtectin and ecnmic develpment can exist tgether.
Behind these innvatins lies crss - sectr cperatin, driving cutting-edge scientific research. Chinese
researchers, fr example, are als explring hw industrial slid waste can be recycled int building materials r
fuel, while waste prcessing cmpanies are expanding verseas, exprting nt just equipment but technlgies t
Sutheast Asia, Eurpe, and beynd. This cperatin is nt merely “brrwing” knwledge frm different fields
but putting them tgether t create slutins greater than the sum f their parts.
These effrts reflect a shift tward a circular ecnmy, where waste is n lnger a burden but a resurce.
Frm turning landfills int tech centres t changing plastic waste int energy and new materials, these innvatins
reduce envirnmental prblems, cnserve resurces, and create ecnmic pprtunities. Such practices, as is
shwn in China, ffer a sustainable path frward fr cities wrldwide.
32. What prblem is mentined in the first paragraph?
A. Waste calls fr urgent slutin. B. Having n plastics is terrible.
C. Develpment lacks technlgy. D. Cperatin des nt exist yet.
33. Why des the authr list the figures in paragraph 2?
A. T prve effrts in waste management. B. T display the advanced technlgies.
C. T indicate internatinal cperatin. D. T shw the seriusness f pllutin.
34. What plays a key rle in recycling plastics?
A. Building large landfills. B. Cnventinal srting methds.
C. Technlgical breakthrughs. D. Imprting advanced equipment.
35. What is the authr’s attitude twards China’s waste management practices?
A. Critical. B. Supprtive. C. Dubtful. D. Wrried.

One pssible versin:
At first, her mind kept wandering back t the yellw chair. But gradually, the cushin’s cmfrt and the
quiet rustle f pages arund her calmed her restless heart. Sunlight fell ver her knees, and the wrds in the bk
sank gently int her mind, easing her disappintment. When the clck struck twelve, Mm walked ver with a
warm smile. “Enjying yur bk?” she asked. Tasha lked up, her eyes free f sadness, bright with a new sense
f cntentment. She patted the red cushin, a sft smile n her lips, her eyes lingering n the warm sunlight abve
it.
“I lve this spt even mre,” she said. “It’s my new favrite.” As they left the library, Tasha held Mm’s
hand, her heart light and carefree. This Library Day had brught her a sft surprise—and a gentle realizatin: she
n lnger fixed her cmfrt n that single yellw chair. True jy in reading, and in life, she understd, isn’t bund
t a certain spt r rutine. It cmes frm welcming the unexpected, like that sft red cushin—the very sft
surprise that turned a disrupted plan int a warm memry. Letting g f rigid attachments lets us truly embrace the
warm little mments arund us.
