Susan Mubanga grew up in Zambia, a cuntry in Africa, where she ften gazed at the night sky with wnder. Yet she nticed that very few peple in her cmmunity had ever lked thrugh a telescpe. In 2014, Susan and her partner, Ms. Mwabisa, started a prject called the Traveling Telescpe. They used 3D mdeling t design small, prtable telescpes that culd be easily carried t schls and villages. With the help f lcal vlunteers, they visited underserved cmmunities, bringing the wnders f the universe directly t children wh had never lked thrugh a telescpe. The children’s excitement — seeing Saturn’s rings r the craters f the Mn fr the first time — encuraged Susan t cntinue.
Susan’s experience as a vlunteer had taught her hw t cnnect with peple and share knwledge in simple, inspiring ways. She believed that astrnmy shuld nt be limited t scientists. Silk has been used t heal wunds fr 1,800 years. Tday, this ld traditin is helping scientists make new medical implants (植入物) frm the same material.
