mre pprtunities fr peple t engage with African culture thrugh fashin, describing Luùnd nt just as a
brand but as a celebratin where peple can express their identity and heritage with lve.

We have a prblem, and the strange thing is that we nt nly knw abut it, but als celebrate it. Just tday,
smene basted (自夸) t me that she was s busy she’s averaged fur hurs f sleep a night fr the last tw
weeks. She wasn’t cmplaining; she was prud f the fact. She is nt alne.
Why are ratinal (理性的) peple s irratinal in their behavir? The answer is that we’ re in the midst f a
bubble (泡沫). I call it “The Mre Bubble”.
The nature f bubbles is that smething is vervalued until — eventually — the bubble bursts, and we’ re
left wndering why we were s irratinal in the first place. The thing we’ re vervaluing nw is the pinin f
ding it all, having it all, achieving it all.
This bubble is being enabled by a cmbinatin f three pwerful trends: smart phnes, scial media, and
extreme cnsumerism (消费主义). The result is nt just infrmatin verlad, but pinin verlad. We are mre
aware than at any time in histry f what everyne else is ding and, therefre, what we shuld be ding. In the
prcess, we have been sld a bill f gds: that success means being supermen and superwmen wh can get it all
      第 6页/共 13页
dne. Of curse, we basted abut being busy — it’s cde fr being successful and imprtant.
And ur answer t the prblem f mre is always mre. We need mre technlgy t help us create mre
technlgies. We need t mve ur wrklad t free up ur wn time t d yet even mre.
Luckily, there is a slutin t asking fr mre: asking fr less, but better. A grwing number f peple are
making this change. I call these peple Essentialists.
These peple are designing their lives arund what is essential and remving everything else. These peple
arrange t have actual weekends (during which they are nt wrking). They create technlgy-free znes in their
hmes. They trade time n Facebk with calling thse few friends wh really matter t them. Instead f running t
different meetings, they put space n their plans t get imprtant wrk dne.
S we have tw chices: We can be amng the last peple caught up in “The Mre Bubble”, r we can jin the
grwing cmmunity f Essentialists and get mre f what matters in ur ne precius life.
      28. When the wman said she nly slept fr fur hurs a night fr tw weeks, she ________.
      A. was unsatisfied with her lifestyle

      第 7页/共 13页
Silicn Valley start-ups is trying t eliminate lines in retail (零售) stres.
Amazn has pened 24 f its Amazn G stres, which use cameras and artificial intelligence (AI) t see what
yu’ve taken ff shelves and charge yu as yu walk ut. Sme start-ups are clsely cpying Amazn’s apprach
t using AI-pwered cameras fixed in ceilings. But thers are trying an entirely different way t skip the checkut:
smart shpping carts. These cmpanies have added cameras and sensrs (传感器) t the carts, and are using AI t
tell what yu’ve placed in them. A built-in scale weighs items, in case yu have t pay by the pund fr an item.
Custmers pay by using a credit card, r thrugh an nline payment system. When custmers exit the stre, a green
light n the shpping cart indicates that their rders are cmplete, and they’re charged.
The start-ups behind the smart shpping carts, including Caper and Veeve, say it’s much easier t add
technlgy t the shpping cart than t an entire stre. Amazn G stres rely n hundreds f cameras in the
ceiling. The shelves als include sensrs t tell when an item is remved. Ahmed Beshry, cfunder f Caper,

has said hw much their smart shpping carts will cst, making it difficult t cmpare the different frmats. Shariq
Siddiqui, CEO f Veeve, said he’s finding increased interest frm retailers given Amazn’s steady expansin f
Amazn G since the first Amazn G stre pened in Seattle in 2018. “We’re always happy when Amazn is
ding smething,” Siddiqui said. “They frce retailers t get ut f their ld-schl thinking.”
Each time a business uses artificial intelligence and cameras, it raises questins abut custmer privacy and
the impact n jbs. Beshry ntes that the cameras in his smart shpping cart pint dwn int the cart, s nly
custmers’ hands and part f their arms will be captured (拍摄) by cameras.
      32. Which f the fllwing best explains “eliminate” underlined in paragraph 1?
      A. Shift. B. Break. C. Extend. D. Remve.
      33. What d we knw abut the smart shpping carts?
      A. They are linked t the cameras fixed in the ceilings.
      B. They are able t recgnize purchases placed in them.
      C. They flash the green light when the rder is cancelled.
      D. They can tell custmers where t find what they want.
      34. What des Beshry think f the technlgy applied in Amazn G stres?
      A. It is far mre expensive than their smart shpping carts.
      B. It has attracted many mre retailers than befre.
      C. It may increase the cst f running a large grcery stre greatly.
      第 8页/共 13页
      D. It is likely t help retailers t think differently.
      35. What is the best title fr the text?
      A. The New Technlgy Prmtes Retail Sales
      B. AI-pwered Cameras Are Used in Retail Stres
      C. Artificial Intelligence Affects the Future Jb Market
      D. Smart Shpping Carts Will Let Yu Skip the Line
      第二节(共 5 小题;每小题 2.5 分,满分 12.5 分)
      阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Ambivalence (矛盾心理) refers t the frustrating and all-t-cmmn experience f being “n the fence”
abut making sme change. Fr example, yu must have said, “I shuld start exercising, but it’s tugh t find the
time.” ___36___ Yet hw ften d we view ambivalence as sme srt f interlper (干涉者), an unwanted and
unexpected radblck n the path t a better life?
___37___ When we lack understanding abut the uncertainty ur ability t effectively reslve it becmes
limited. Furthermre, withut a clear understanding f the underlying reasns, we risk emplying harmful labels
that may cnveniently but inaccurately explain the reasn fr ur inactin and that f thers. “I must be lazy.” “She
      has n self-discipline.”
A helpful standpint fr us t better understand the rts f indecisiveness cmes frm a research-based

Frm a mtivatinal interviewing viewpint, the rt f ambivalence is related t the extent f imprtance and

in being able t take the necessary steps, chances are very high that we will waver (动摇) n mving frward.
      ___39___
The widespread presence f ambivalence in the face f change is cmmnly present in human life. It’s true fr
us, and it’s true fr thers, including ur family members and friends, and thse we encunter and serve in ur
prfessinal lives. ___40___ By ding this, we can mre clearly see and skillfully address the rt causes f
      ambivalence.
      A. And the ppsite f that is als true.
      B. It’ll be prblematic if we misinterpret ambivalence.
      第 9页/共 13页
      C. Thus, we’ll feel highly mtivated t make the change.
      D. Think abut a kind f behavir yu’ve been hesitant t change.
      E. It’s been successfully applied t many cases f behaviral change.
      F. Such internal swinging is cmmn when it cmes t behaviral change.
      G. Acknwledging this fact is essential fr vercming harmful judgments and labels.
