His eight years there cmpletely transfrmed his educatinal experience. “It pened a whle new wrld f learning and made Luke want t learn,” said his mther.
Luke thrived in Agra’s flexible nline envirnment. Teachers were easily reachable thrugh email and private chats, ffering cnsistent supprt. He culd rewatch class recrdings when needed, and he fund the nline textbks clear and helpful fr review. A key factr in his grwth was the strng supprt frm staff like family cach Ashley Vn Grssen, wh prvided quick and reliable help, acting as a vital safety net.
This supprtive structure led t visible results. Luke’s grades imprved significantly, and he was able t explre his interests thrugh varius curses, including cmputer prgramming and cking. These curses perfectly matched his ptential career interests in vide game design and art.
His success at Agra cleared the way fr cllege acceptance. While cnsidering several universities, Luke chse Drexel because it felt like the right fit. He plans t majr in game design and is excited abut future pprtunities like a pssible cperative educatin prgram in Singapre. Cws have nw been added t the list f animals knwn t use tls n purpse. In a study, a cw named Vernika shwed she culd use a tl t slve a prblem, challenging cmmn ideas abut farm animal intelligence.
Tl use is ften seen as a sign f advanced thinking. While humans nce thught they were the nly tl users, we nw knw many animals, like crws and dlphins, can use tls t. Hwever, little was knwn abut whether cws culd d this by design.
Vernika lives n an Austrian farm. Her wner had nticed fr years that she wuld smetimes pick up a stick t scratch itchy (挠痒的) spts. Scientists became interested when they saw a vide f this. They designed an experiment t test her skills.
The test used a brm (扫帚) with a brush end and a handle end. Researchers thught Vernika might use the brush t scratch herself. They gave her the brm 70 times, psitining it differently each time. Vernika actually used it t scratch herself 76 times. Beynd expectatins, she used the brush n her thick-skinned back and sides, and surprisingly, als used the smth handle t gently scratch sensitive areas like her stmach. She adjusted hw she held and mved the brm accrding t which end she used and the spt she was scratching.
This shws she understd the brm’s different parts culd serve different purpses. This kind f flexible tl use is very rare in animals. The scientists nte that using a tl n yur wn bdy is different frm using it n bjects. It is als harder fr a cw, as she must hld the tl in her muth. Vernika’s ability t plan her actins and adjust her mvements is therefre very impressive.
This multipurpse tl use is rare in the wild. The researchers believe that Vernika’s circumstances may have cntributed t her skills. She’s arund 13 years ld, she was and mst cws living arund humans dn’t live that lng. They primarily interact with ther cws in cntrlled envirnments, are rarely clsely bserved, and aren’t ffered a range f items t play with.
8. What is peple’s general pinin f the intelligence f farm animals?
A. It is crrect and accurate.B. It might have been incmplete.
C. It is based n strng evidence.D. It is supprted by mst farmers.
9. Why did the researchers cnduct the experiment n Vernika?
A. T study cw cmmunicatin patterns.
B. T cmpare cws’ intelligence with dlphins’.
C. T cnfirm the scial behavir f farm animals.
D. T find whether cws can use tls intentinally.
10. What cnclusin was drawn frm the study n Vernika?
A. She failed t use the handle.B. She preferred the brush end.
C. She shwed advanced tl use.D. She used the brm awkwardly.
11. What factr might have helped Vernika develp her tl-using skills?
A. Her living envirnment.B. Her daily human cntact.
C. Her special bdy structure.D. Her easy access t wrking tls.

As glbal demand fr cmputers and smartphnes grws, electrnic waste (e-waste) has becme a serius prblem. A 2024 UN reprt shws that 62 millin tns f e-waste was prduced in 2022. Mst f this waste is buried r burned, which harms the envirnment. It als causes the lss f valuable resurces wrth abut $62 billin. Tday, nly 1% f the demand fr these materials cmes frm recycling e-waste. Since e-waste is rising much faster than recycling, we urgently need new slutins.
One prmising slutin is Aquafade, a kind f new plastic. It can cmpletely disslve (溶解) in water in abut six hurs. This material culd be used t make the uter cases f devices like cmputers r keybards. When a device is n lnger needed, the case can be disslved at hme, leaving behind the valuable electrnic parts fr easier recycling.
The inspiratin fr Aquafade came frm a dishwasher cleaner that disslves in water t release cleaning liquid. Samuel Wangsaputra, ne f the inventrs f Aquafade, wndered where the water-disslvable film went and tested it in water. This led him t discver a safe, bidegradable (可生物降解的) material called PVOH. Wangsaputra and his team realized that by using it fr electrnic casings, they culd slve a key recycling prblem: the need t transprt heavy e-waste t special facilities, which is cstly and plluting.
The team is nw wrking t imprve the material. Their gal is t make it bth waterprf fr daily use and fully bidegradable. The final cating allws the prduct t resist water fr a shrt time, but nce the prtective screw (螺丝) is remved, water can enter and disslve the case in a few hurs. What remains is milky water, which can be safely pured away, and the valuable electrnic parts. At first, Aquafade may be used fr wearable items at cncerts, such as LED bands. In the future, the inventrs hpe t see it used fr varius electrnics and even ther items like furniture.
This innvatin ffers a practical way t reduce e-waste and recver precius materials, bringing us clser t a mre sustainable future.
12. Why des the authr list the figures in paragraph 1?
A. T describe the recycling prcess.
B. T present the attempts f the UN.
C. T explain the cmpsitin f e-waste.
D. T shw the seriusness f the e-waste prblem.
13. What is the main advantage f using Aquafade fr electrnic casings?
A. It makes electrnics much lighter.B. It reduces the cst f electrnics.
C. It simplifies the recycling prcess.D. It increases the value f electrnic parts.
14. What can we learn abut Aquafade frm the text?
A. It is unsuitable fr daily use.B. It may be applied in mre fields.
C. It has been used in varius areas.D. It can break dwn within minutes.
15. What can be the best title fr the text?
A. The Future f Electrnics Recycling
B. The Envirnmental Impact f Plastics
C. Aquafade: A Slutin t E-waste Recycling
D. E-waste: A Grwing Envirnmental Cncern
