1．规则变化
注意：(1)少部分双音节词是以-er，-y，-w和-le结尾的单词，直接加-er，-est或者-r，-st如：clever，early, yellw, narrw, simple等。
(2)下列形容词没有比较级和最高级(即表示“最高程度”或“绝对状态”的形容词和副词没有比较级和最高级)，如：empty, wrng, perfect, unique, extreme, excellent, favurite, true, right, crrect等。

一般直接加-s
bk→bks；tree→trees；apple→apples
以辅音字母加-y结尾的名词，变y为i加-es。以元音字母加-y结尾的名词，直接加-s
cmpany→cmpanies；city→cities; day→days；by→bys; guy→guys; mnkey→mnkeys
以-s，-x，-ch，-sh结尾的名词，加-es。但一定要注意：以-th结尾的名词加-s；如果词尾-ch发音为/k/，要加-s
bus→buses, bx→bxes, match→matches, brush→brushes, mnth→mnths; strength→ strengths, stmach→stmachs
以-结尾的有的加-es，有的直接加-s
her→heres；ptat→ptates; tmat→tmates; radi→radis; pian→pians
以-f或-fe结尾的词，多变-f或-fe为-v，再加-es；但也有的直接加-s
knife→knives；wlf→wlves; rf→rfs; chief→chiefs

大部分双音节词和多音节的词(即音标中含有三个或三个以上元音音素的词)，要在前面加mre, mst
beautiful→mre beautiful→mst beautiful; serius→mre serius→mst serius
由-ing分词和-ed分词演变过来的形容词(包括不规则动词如knw→knwn)，只能加mre或mst来表示它们的比较级和最高级
