Deepfake: synthetic (合成的) media, including images, vides, and audi, is generated by AI technlgy t shw smething that des nt exist r events that have never ccurred.
Examples f deepfakes have been widely spread, including a vide f Facebk CEO Mark Zuckerberg giving a speech abut his cmpany’s plan, and a vide f Eln Musk dancing and talking abut the pwer f dreams, etc.
It’s easy fr AI t prduce such deepfakes using tw different deep-learning algrithms (算法): ne that creates the best pssible clne based n a real image r vide and anther that detects whether the cpy is fake (伪造的) and, if it is, reprts n the differences between it and the riginal. The first algrithm prduces a synthetic image and receives feedback n it frm the secnd algrithm and then adjusts it t make it appear mre real; the lp is repeated as many times as it takes until the secnd algrithm des nt detect any false imagery.
Deepfakers ften have evil mtives, including creating misinfrmatin and generating cnfusin. They tend t demean, terrify, and anny, and have targeted nt nly celebrities but rdinary citizens as well.
Mst f the academic research surrunding deepfakes fcuses n the detectin f huge amunt f deepfake vides emerging nline. One detectin apprach is t use algrithms t identify incnsistencies in deepfake vides. Fr example, an autmatic system can examine vides fr errrs such as irregular blinking patterns f lighting. Hwever, these appraches have been criticized because deepfake detectin is characterized by a “mving gal pst” where the prductin f deepfakes is changing and imprving while detectin tls are always n the way f catching them up.
Hwever, educatin and medicine are tw f the fields that may benefit frm deepfake technlgy. In the classrm, histrical speeches culd be deepfaked t ffer immersive and engaging lessns. In health care, it can imprve the accuracy with which tumrs (肿瘤) are sptted, making them easier t treat. Its use als permits using synthesized data instead f that frm real patients t avid privacy cncerns.

      37. What is the authr’s attitude tward deepfake?
      A. Supprtive.B. Critical.C. Objective.D. Uncncerned.

      C. Artificial Intelligence: A piece f fakeD. Detecting deepfake: An nging battle
      B
