The Guardian(卫报) has updated its style guide t intrduce terms that mre accurately describe the envirnmental crises facing the wrld.
Instead f “climate change” the preferred terms are “climate emergency, crisis r breakdwn” and “glbal heating” is favured ver “glbal warming”, althugh the riginal terms are nt banned.
“We want t ensure that we are being scientifically precise, while als cmmunicating clearly with readers n this very imprtant issue,” said the editr-in-chief, Katharine Viner. “The phrase ‘climate change’, fr example, sunds rather passive and gentle when what scientists are talking abut is a catastrphe fr humanity.”
“Increasingly, climate scientists and rganisatins frm the UN t the Met Office are changing their terms, and using strnger language t describe the situatin we’re in,” she said.
