What I always lved mst abut middle schl was that it was separate (分开的) and different frm hme. I culd g there and be Olivia Pullman—nt Via, which is my name at hme. Via was what they called me in primary schl, t. Back then, everyne knew all abut us, my parents and August.
But in middle schl, a lt f peple didn’t knw abut August. My ld friends did, f curse, but my new friends didn’t. Or if they knew, it wasn’t surely the first thing they knew abut me. “Olivia? Yeah, she’s nice. Did yu hear she has a brther wh’s defrmed (畸形的)?” I always ▲ the wrd, but I knew it was hw peple describe August. And I knew thse kinds f cnversatins prbably happened all the time, every time I left the rm at a party, r ran int grups f friends at the pizza place. And that’s kay. I’m always ging t be the sister f a kid with a birth defect (缺陷): that’s nt the prblem. I just dn’t want thers t define me that way.
The best thing abut high schl is that hardly anybdy knws me at all, except Miranda and Ella. And they knw nt t g arund talking abut it. Miranda, Ella and I have knwn each ther since the first grade. What’s s nice is we never have t explain (解释) things t ne anther. When I decided I wanted them t call me Olivia instead f Via, they gt it withut my having t explain.
Thrughut middle schl, Miranda, Ella and I were pretty much ur wn little grup.
