Keeping fd fresh withut refrigeratin is near impssible in the ht climate f sub-Saharan Africa. But it’s hard t pwer fridges in a regin where almst 600 millin peple live ff the grid(电网).
That’s where Brazil’s Yumma cmes in. The cmpany has develped a pay-as-yu-g(预付费的) slar-pwered fridge that is being bught by small business wners. The fridges help t reduce fd waste, stre medicine safely, and allw shps t keep prducts fresh fr lnger, says André Mrriesen, research and develpment manager at Nidec Glbal Appliance, which wns Yumma.
The cling system f the small 100-liter fridge has been designed fr ff-grid use, and it cnsumes a quarter f the energy f a regular fridge, accrding t Nidec. Hwever, even when paired with pay-as-yu-g systems like M-Kpa’s, slar fridges are still cstly fr the average persn and that’s why they mstly appeal t small businesses, says Le. Of abut 2,000 fridges sld since Yumma launched it in 2019, arund 80% were t small businesses.
Kik Mwange runs a small shp in the village f Kithung, eastern Kenya. Since signing up fr the Yumma fridge he has increased his sales. “It helps me preserve milk fr up t 10 days,” says Mwange. “I have seen an increase in custmers.” Mrriesen believes the fridge can be a “life-changing prduct” fr rural families and “bring freedm t wmen” wh ften spend hurs each day walking t fd markets.
      12. What can we knw abut the slar fridge?
      A. It is meant fr ff-grid use.B. It can’t wrk withut sunlight.
      C. It is ppular with average persn.D. It csts less than a traditinal fridge
13 Wh are mre likely t buy the slar fridge in Africa?

      C. Small business wners.D. Rich wmen in big cities.

      A. Dubtful.B. Favrable.C. Negative.D. Disappinted.
      15. What’s the best title f the text?
      A. Technlgical Prgress in AfricaB. Mst Peple Live Off the Grid in Africa
