It’s the next ne that is imprtant!
Clearly, my view f reading had changed ver the years. This raised the larger questin f rereading, which cmes in many frms. There’s vluntary rereading, the result f a willful decisin t revisit a bk ne has admired, r t cnfirm certain details in the text. A devted teacher might wish t refresh his understanding f a wrk, and thus avid teaching thrugh the same ld written ntes with sprific (令人昏昏欲睡的) effects.
Next, there’s invluntary rereading. The riginal reading was either frgtten r s ttally absrbed that the new chance encunter with the text prduced surprise and astnishment. My reactin t the renewed reading n lnger felt like the riginal experience, and I was n lnger sure that I recgnized myself as the same reader.
Then there are what ne might call subcnscius (潜意识的) rereadings, thse that happen withut reading—much like recalling a sng withut actually being heard again. This remembered cnnectin t bks stays with us fr life, shaping and strengthening us. We may ver the years recite t urselves pems learnt by heart lng ag, which have becme part f ur self-recgnitin.
All f these ways f reading are valuable. The “new” reading, a frm f revisin, uncvers the change in us. The newness is nt in the text. Rereading makes it pssible fr us t see the wrld arund us, urselves included, in a new light.

Researchers first used ChatGPT t edit large amunts f text like emails and articles using instructins such as “plish” r “imprve clarity.” They identified wrds ChatGPT added frequently, like “delve,” labeling these GPT wrds. Next, the team analyzed ver 360,000 vides and 770,000 pdcast (播客) episdes frm befre and after ChatGPT’s release t track the use f GPT wrds ver time. They cmpared the GPT wrds with “synthetic (合成) cntrls,” which were frmed by mathematically weighting synnyms (同义词) that weren’t frequently used by the chatbt-such synnyms fr “delve,” fr example, culd include “examine” and “explre.”
The team’s results shw a significant rise in GPT wrds in the 18 mnths after ChatGPT’s release. The wrds didn’t just appear in frmal, scripted vides r pdcast episdes; they were peppered int natural cnversatin, t. “The patterns stred in AI technlgy seem t be sending back t the human mind,” ntes c-authr Levin Brinkmann, describing a cultural feedback cycle: humans train AI n text, AI returns statistically remixed versins, and then peple uncnsciusly adpt its patterns. “It’s natural fr humans t imitate ne anther, but we’re mre likely t cpy what smene else is ding if we perceive them as being knwledgeable r imprtant,”

Every mrning when the alarm ges ff, many peple face a hard chice: t snze (打盹) r nt t snze? If yu happen t be an iPhne user, yu may have wndered why the snze buttn gives yu exactly nine minutes. This number is nt a casual chice as it is tied t histrical design and human sleep science.
The nine-minute snze perid is nt unique t the iPhne. In the mid-20th century, when mechanical (机械的) alarm clcks were the main type n the market, a leading prducer intrduced a snze alarm. Hwever, the standard gears f mechanical clcks made it difficult t set a duble-digit snze perid. Engineers eventually settled n nine minutes, the largest pssible single-digit (个位数的), t avid the need t redesign the clck’s mechanism. Apple might have taken the nine-minute snze t hnr this early inventin.
Frm a physilgical pint f view, a nine-minute perid is practical. Our bdies start t fall int the secnd stage f a sleep cycle abut 10 minutes after falling asleep. Therefre, a snze perid f nine minutes allws fr less sudden awakening as it helps avid a deeper stage f sleep. This timing can als reduce sleepiness and make it slightly easier t wake up when the alarm rings again.
The debate ver whether snzing is helpful r harmful cntinues amng sleep experts. Sme research suggests that snzing prvides enugh time fr the bdy and brain t shift gradually frm sleep t wakefulness. On the ther hand, ther studies argue that while hitting the snze buttn might give yu a brief feeling f extra rest, it fragments yur sleep and makes yu mre tired than if yu wake up with the first alarm. Cntinuus, undisturbed sleep is generally better fr mental abilities and verall health. Finally, understanding yur wn sleep patterns can help yu make the decisin between whether t keep hitting the snze buttn r embrace the cruel reality f the first alarm.
12.Why was a nine-minute snze time chsen fr mechanical alarm clcks?
A.T shw respect t the early design.B.T fllw the trend f ther clck prducers.
C.T match the principles f human sleep science.D.T avid the change f the clck’s inner structure.
13.What des the underlined wrd “fragment” in the last paragraph mean?
A.wrsenB.breakC.shrtenD.delay
14.What des the authr suggest at the end f the passage?
A.Keep hitting the snze buttn t get extra rest.
B.Make a chice by cnsidering yur wn sleep habits.
C.Ignre the snzing effect and fllw yur sleep patterns.
D.Cnsider bth psitive and negative effects f snzing befre deciding.
15.Which f the fllwing can be the best title fr the passage?
A.Nine Minutes f Extra Rest r Nine Minutes f Regret?
B.Is the Nine-Minute snze Beneficial t Our Sleep Rutine?
C.Why is the Snze Buttn an Imprtant Feature f Alarm Clcks?
D.Hw Des the Snze Buttn Wrk t Influence Our Sleep Quality?

18 “Omega-3 fatty acids, fund in ily fish, play a rle in the structure and functin f cell membranes (细胞膜) in the brain,” the nutritinist Rhiannn Lambert says. “They are invlved in the prductin and signaling f neurtransmitters (神经递质), which are critical fr md regulatin.”
And breathe
Yur gut is impacted nt just by what yu eat but by hw yu eat. Lisa Macfarlane, c-funder f the health cmpany The GutStuff, explains, “ 19 Try taking deep breath befre yu eat-it’s prven that digestin happens mre effectively when eating in a relaxed and calm state.”
Jin the fast crwd
A recent study by King’s Cllege Lndn fund that eating within a ten-hur windw. and therefre fasting fr furteen hurs each day, is assciated with better md, better sleep, mre energy and less hunger. 20
