Hwever, the memries f thse days remain painful. Whenever her parents came t visit, she wuld beg them nt t g. “I cried a lt,” Zheng said during a recent interview. The hardship is paying ff n the curt, thugh.
After three years in Wuhan, she caught the attentin f an agency (经纪公司) and earned the pprtunity t train amng the sprt’s tp rising stars. Her mther decided t mve with her and has mstly been with her ever since.
Zheng turned prfessinal at 15, and began a mstly cntinuus rise until the French Open last year. A recent survey fund a quarter f peple aged 18 t 34 never answer the phne and nearly 70% prefer a text t a phne call.
Fr lder generatins, talking n the phne is nrmal. Hwever, phne calls n the mbile wuld have cst a frtune in the past. And s, a generatin f texters were brn arund 2000: mbile phne calls were fr emergencies.
Withut the habit f speaking n the phne, yung peple nw feel awkward when taking phne calls and sme even fear the wrst when their phne starts ringing. Phne calls, then, are kept nly fr imprt ant news in their lives.
This tendency is als seen in the wrkplace. Henry Nelsn, a 31-year-ld cntent creatr, says it’s the tensin cnnected with real-time cnversatins, pssible awkwardness, and the pressure t respnd immediately that makes him hate talking n the phne. Dunja Relic, a 27-year-ld lawyer, says answering a call requires yu t stp what yu’re ding, and this sets yu back n yur tasks.

Perhaps nw it’s time t accept the pwer f text and just as we gave up using the fax machine in the 1990s, we can leave the undesirable phne calls behind nw.
