When Thrn grew up, he did just that, wrking fr shws like Discvery Channel’s Shark Week, filming the great white sharks ff the cast f Santa Cruz, Califrnia. But Thrn says it was the fire in Paradise in Califrnia in 2018 that “pushed” him t d animal rescue wrk, putting his aerial cinematgraphy skills t gd use.
At the time, Thrn was filming a man wh was rescuing cats after the fire using an infrared hand-held camera. The camera uses heat t detect the animals at night. Thrn and the man talked abut hw incredible it wuld be t put ne n a drne(无人机) t detect animals mre easily. “The animal’s bdy temperature will glw n the screen and yu can pick them ut amng the bricks and stnes,” explains Thrn.
The first animal Thrn ever rescued in this way was a dg in the Bahamas after a categry-5 hurricane hit, which wiped ut hundreds f huses. Thrn put an infrared scpe n a drne and fund the dg.
“The drne really shaves ff critical time s that the really badly hurt animals are able t be rescued,” Thrn says. Once the scpe picks up the “heat signature f an animal”, Thrn turns a sptlight n the animal and zms in n it, s he and the rescue crew can g and save the animal.

Did yu knw the basic structure f yur brain is very similar t that f ther mammals? This surprising fact says a lt abut animal thught because having brains and hrmnes (素) similar t thse f humans makes ther mammals act, feel, and think much like we d.
In fact, animals actually pssess cgnitin, the ability t acquire knwledge. Elephants cnsciusly learn which plants t eat frm lder elephants by bserving them and tasting the fds they eat. S, while ur experience f the wrld might differ frm theirs, cnsciusness is nt a privilege (特权) limited t us.
And brains can even teach us abut hw animals feel. Fr instance, xytcin, a kind f hrmne, is essential in frming bnds in humans as well as ther mammals. S, if it's blcked in an individual's brain, they're likely t feel alne. The fact that the same is true fr humans and animals suggests a similarity bth in ur brains and ur feelings.
But what abut the animals with tiny brains? Can they feel t? Actually, brain size is a pr indicatr f animal intelligence. A better ne is hw much an animal's brain has in cmmn with urs. That's because a larger brain, while it means mre cmputing pwer, isn't necessarily helpful. Fr example, tuna have smaller brains than dlphins but are just as gd at hunting. Large brains are necessary fr being scial and cperating with thers. That's because when individuals are respnsible fr the survival f a grup, a bigger r scial brain is needed. In the case f animals that d have scial brains, like elephants, whales, and dlphins, it's hard t deny that they're thinking and feeling like humans when their brains s clsely resemble urs.
Why are elephants mentined in paragraph 2?
T illustrate animals’ ability t learn. B. T intrduce elephants’ eating habits.
C. T cmpare humans and animals. D. T prve elephants are scial animals.
What will xytcin's being reduced lead t?
Prer scial ability.B. Increased lneliness.
C. Imprved hunting skills.D. Strnger bnds with thers.
What des the underlined phrase “A better ne” in paragraph 4 refer t?
A larger brain.B. A sharper sense.
C. A mre brilliant mind.D. A mre reliable indicatr.
What message des this text mainly intend t cnvey?
Brain size is vital t intelligence.
Cnsciusness is nt humans’ privilege.
Mammals may think and feel like humans.
Animals share similar brain structure with humans.

In ne study, using tw perfectly psitined cameras, Ms Peng was able t identify and track a ball in three dimensins in real time. She then fed that data int an algrithm cntrlling the ludspeakers standing alng the sides f the table, which created a sund field matching the psitin f the ball.
While the results are prmising, mre experimentatin will be needed befre the system will be ready fr actual play. “There are limitatins n hw accurately peple can perceive sund lcalisatin. What type f sund shuld be used? Shuld the sund be cntinuus? This is what we’ll be tackling in the next stage f develpment,” said Ms Peng.
Hw are event cameras different frm nrmal nes?
They can have sunds lcated.B. They are linked with ludspeakers.
C. They cnstantly fllw image changes. D. They take cmplete images f a scene.
What makes table tennis a perfect test case fr the research?

根据第一段中 “And I wanted t be a wildlife cinematgrapher.”
“wrking fr the great white sharks” 可知 that 指的是 “做一名野生动物电影摄影师”。
根据第三段中 “hw incredible it wuld be t put ne n a drne t detect animals mre easily” 可推知,Thrn 把红外摄像机安在无人机上的目的是快速探测动物。
根据第三段中 “put ne n a drne t detect animals” 以及第五段中 “Once the scpe picks up the ‘heat signature f an animal’, Thrn turns a sptlight n the animal and zms in n it”可知 Thrn 想到利用红外摄像机和无人机救助动物的办法,由此可见他具有创造性。
题:主旨大意题。文章核心逻辑是 “人类与哺乳动物的大脑结构、激素机制相似→这些动物的思维、感受与人类相近”,并通过大象、催产素、社交脑动物等例子佐证。选项 C “哺乳动物可能像人类一样思考和感受” 最能概括主旨;
干扰项:B(意识不是人类特权)、D(动物与人类大脑结构相似)都是文章的 “部分论据”,而非核心主旨;A(大脑尺寸对智力至关重要)与原文 “大脑尺寸不是智力的可靠指标” 相悖。
根据第二段“The prcess uses event cameras which, unlike nrmal cameras that take cmplete images f a scene, track changes in an image ver time, making them ideal fr the bservatin f small bjects like table tennis balls.(该过程使用事件相机,与拍摄场景完整图像的普通相机不同,事件相机可以跟踪图像随时间的变化,使其非常适合观察像乒乓球这样的小物体。)”
Table tennis has been played fr decades as a mre accessible
versin f tennis. The sprt is beginner-friendly while maintaining a rich level f cmpetitive play.(几
故选 A。
根据最后一段“There are limitatins n hw accurately peple can perceive sund lcalisatin. What type f sund shuld be used? Shuld the sund be cntinuus? This is what we’ll be tackling in the next stage f develpment(人们感知声音定位的准确度是有限的。
通读全文, 尤其是第一段“Wrking with ARIA Research, a startup develping visin fr the blind, Phebe Peng is using technlgically advanced human echlcatin (回声定位) that enables blind users t perceive their surrundings in precise detail.(Phebe Peng 与 ARIA Research(一家为盲人开发视力的初创公司)合作,使用技术先进的人类回声定位技术,使盲人用户能够准确地感知周围环境的细节。)”和第四段““The small size f the ball and table, alng with the mvement f the ball in 3D space, are things that make table tennis difficult t play fr thse with lw visin and cmplete blindness,” said Peng, wh is cmpleting the wrk fr her degree. “Making this sprt mre accessible while als explring the ptential f event cameras were my tw biggest mtivatrs,” she said.(Peng,正在完成她的学位研究,说:“乒乓球和乒乓球台的尺寸太小,再加上球在 3D 空间中的运动,使得那些视力低下和完全失明的人很难打乒乓球。” 故选 A。
开篇引入:用谚语 “We are what we eat” 引出 “饮食与健康” 的话题,通过转折(hwever)提出
