In the summer f 2013, I vlunteered at an autism (自闭症) center in Beijing. At first, I was just curius and wanted t help. But when I met the children, I was deeply tuched. They rarely spke, each ne living in their wn quiet wrld. I wasn’t trained in art, but I painted with them every week. Slwly, I saw that their drawings had a special kind f beauty: hnest, free and full f emtin. In their wrld, I fund a new way t lk at life.
This experience inspired me t create the brand Half Smile in 2014. I wanted t turn the children’s drawings int art prducts — T-shirts, phne cases and bags — that peple wuld enjy and buy. It was a way t create value and incme fr peple with autism, nt just accept dnatins. Every time a prduct is sld, the yung artist receives a fee.
There were tw main reasns behind this idea. First, I wanted t help change hw sciety sees peple with autism — frm thse wh receive help t thse wh can ffer smething meaningful. When thers like and buy their artwrk, they becme creatrs with value. This gives them cnfidence and respect. Secnd, a scial business mdel ffers a mre stable and lasting path. It reduces the need fr dnatins and helps create a lng-term effect.
The hardest part f cmbining public gd with business is changing hw peple think. Many still believe that sme cmpanies use charity t get sympathy and make mney, which leads t dubt and misunderstanding abut businesses. Hwever, if we never let these children share their talents utside charity events, we’re limiting their future. A business mdel isn’t perfect, but it’s ne way t build lasting pprtunities. It shws that care and business can wrk tgether.
Changing minds takes time. But if a T-shirt with a child’s artwrk can start a cnversatin abut fairness, creativity r hw we cntribute t sciety — then maybe we are mving in the right directin.
      4. Why did the writer create Half Smile?
      A. Because he wanted t change his present life.B. Because he gt inspiratin frm his vlunteering.
      C. Because he wanted t make mre incme frm it.D. Because he culd find his lve fr painting.
      5. Hw did the writer help the children with autism?
      A. By turning their drawings int prducts.B. By helping them make mre paintings.
      C. By vlunteering mre with them.D. By receiving mre dnatins.
      6. What is the biggest challenge t Half Smile accrding t paragraph 4?
      A. Children’s limited talent.B. Peple’s misunderstanding abut it.
      C. Limited incme frm it.D. Peple’s nt caring abut charity.
      7. What is the writer’s attitude tward the future f Half Smile?
      A. Uncncerned.B. Dubtful.C. Negative.D. Psitive.

Althugh life has mstly returned t nrmal after the COVID-19 pandemic, wrking frm hme is still ppular. Leaders in mre individual-fcused cultures are mre cmfrtable giving freedm and wrkers feel mre relaxed wrking frm hme.
Remte wrk has been discussed a lt in recent years. Supprters say it helps peple fcus and avid being disturbed when they are ding difficult tasks. Als, wrking frm hme can reduce husing prblems, as peple can live in places farther frm the city, where husing is cheaper, accrding t The Ecnmist. Kry Kantenga frm LinkedIn tld CNBC that as the ppulatin is aging and ur wrkfrce is set t shrink, “emplyers are ging t... d mre t attract emplyees, and ffering flexible wrk might be the thing that they have t d.”
Hwever, remte wrk als has dwnsides. Sme peple find it hard t separate wrk and hme life, and thers wh enjy talking t cwrkers may feel lnely. Sme wrkers may als be treated unfairly if they are nt seen in the ffice, as nted by US News.
“The wrld f wrk tday feels like an incmplete puzzle — a cmplex set f pieces that we knw belng tgether but dn’t yet have a picture t guide us,” Frbes reprted. “We finally accept that we dn’t have all the answers — and start building a new way frward.”

      D. The authr is cmpletely in favr f remte wrk.

Mrningside Park in Miami, n the east cast f the US, will sn start a new prject t imprve the envirnment. Our team has develped BIOCAP tiles (砖) using 3D printing, which will be installed n the present seawall there this year. With their special design, these tiles will help deal with rising sea levels and bring back nature alng the castline.
Seawalls are usually made with cncrete (混凝土) t prevent waves frm damaging the land and flding peple’s hmes. They usually range frm abut 1.8 t 3 meters in height. Hwever, traditinal seawalls can harm the envirnment. Their flat surfaces take away the habitat areas that sea rganisms depend n. These rganisms help keep the water clear and clean by screening ut extra nutrients and pllutants. Fr example, an adult yster can filter 75 t 190 liters f water daily.
BIOCAP tiles are designed with lines, cracks and small pckets. These features cpy natural castline cnditins and create tiny hmes fr sea creatures. The wavy patterns als increase the ttal surface area, s that the rganisms have mre space t use. In additin, shaded spts n the tiles prvide cler micr-envirnments, supprting life as mre heat events happen due t climate change.
Anther benefit f the tiles is that they can better reduce the impact f waves. When waves hit a natural castline their energy is gradually taken in by uneven surfaces and plants. Hwever, when waves strike straight cncrete seawalls, the energy is reflected right back int the water. This reflectin can strengthen wave actin, make ersin wrse at the base f the wall and create mre dangerus cnditins during strms.
The tiles’ shapes are based n hw water behaves with different surfaces at high and lw tide. Sme tiles bend inward while thers utward, and they are placed at different heights alng the seawall. This results in surfaces that spread ut wave energy by cpying the natural way it fades n untuched shrelines.
      12. What is the main advantage f BIOCAP tiles ver traditinal seawalls?
      A. They are mre friendly t the envirnment.B. They are mre cst-efficient.
      C. They help keep the water clean.D. They can stp the sea levels frm rising.
      13. What is the functin f the example f ysters in paragraph 2?
      A. T list a kind f sea life.B. T prve the surface is flat.
      C. T explain the harm f traditinal seawall.D. T shw hw sea animals harm the water.
      14. Why are BIOCAP tiles shaped with lines and cracks?
      A. Because it can save materials.B. Because it can frighten away sea animals.
      C. Because it can make the walls mre beautiful.D. Because it can create mre rm fr rganisms.
      15. What can be the best title f this text?
      A. Perfect Castline cnditins in Miami.B. 3D printed tiles replacing traditinal seawalls.
      C. A new wave hitting the castline in Miami.D. 3D printed tiles helping nature.
