T gather data n this questin, Oliver Hauser, an ecnmist at the University f Exeter, and Anil Dshi at University Cllege Lndn's Schl f Management invited 300 nn-prfessinal writers t write an eight-sentence stry. One-third f the participants needed t generate ideas independently, while thers receive starter ideas frm Chat GPT 4.0. The assisted grup was divided int tw: ne received a single Al-generated idea and the ther culd chse frm up t five. Mst imprtantly, bth the human-nly and Al-assisted grups had t rewrite the stries themselves.
Assessed by 600 evaluatrs(评价者), each stry were graded n" nvelty" and "usefulness". Nvelty reflect riginality, while usefulness shwed if the stry was f publishable quality, Accrding t the results, Al-assisted stries scred higher in bth categries. Writers with access t ne Al idea perfrmed better, but thse with five ideas saw the mst imprvement---abut 8% mre nvel and 9% mre useful than independent stries. But there’s a plt twist: When Hauser and Dshi lked at all the stries, they fund a different effect. “Generally speaking there was a smaller diversity f nvelty in the grup that had Al, ” Hauser says.
In ther wrds, while the chatbt enhanced creativity individually, it reduced the verall creativity f the Al-assisted grup. Hauser describes this a “"classic scial dilemma" where individuals benefit, but the grup suffers. We d wrry that, at large scale, if many peple are using the diversity and creativity in the ppulatin will g dwn, " he says.
Annalee Newitz, a science fictin authr and jurnalist, pinted ut that he wuldn't blame anyne wh tried using Al t write a stry. Hwever, he thinks these tls miss the pint f writing. Creative writing is "human cmmunicating with ther humans" Newitz says, “Even if smething is badly written---even if nt very creative---if it's written by a human, then it's fulfilling its purpse".
32. What can we learn abut Hauser and Dshi's study?
A. Each participant's stry was graded by prfessinals.
B. Nt all the participants needed t generate ideas independently.
C. Each participant's stry was evaluated n three different aspects.
D. Human-nly stries were as nvel and useful as Al-assisted stries.
33. Accrding t the study results, which grup perfrmed best in "nvelty" and "usefulness"?
A. Writers wh generated ideas independently.
B. Writers wh received ne AI-generated idea.
C. Writers wh chse frm up t five AI ideas.
D. Writers wh cmbined human and AI ideas.

D. The pint f creative writing lies in human-t-human cmmunicatin.
35. What can be a suitable title fr the text?

Find help frm yur surrundings, says Debra Fine, an expert n cmmunicatin skills. If yu’re standing next t smene at a baby shwer, fr example, the fact that yu’re bth there is what she calls “free infrmatin” — s ask the persn hw they knw the mum-t-be. 37
Skip sensitive questins.
Avid cntrversial (有争议的) tpics and ptentially sensitive matters (such as religin, relatinship status, kids and wrk). 38 Yu might als ask a high schl senir t fill yu in n their cllege search, fr example, rather than asking if they will get int a famus cllege.
Respnd generusly.
Think f cnversatin as a game and aim t be an active player, which requires investing energy in it. If smene asks hw yu are and yu simply respnd “Gd”, yu’re being a “lazy cnversatinalist”. 39 That gives the persn yu’re talking t plenty t wrk with if they’d like t cntinue t chat.
40
Sme cnversatins may drag n because peple can’t figure ut hw t end them. Cnsider intrducing the persn t smene else, suggests Diane Windingland, and leaving time fr them t knw each ther. Besides, Windingland recmmends cmpleting cnversatins like this: “Please excuse me, I have t talk t s-and-s.”
A. Exit the chat gracefully.
B. Fcus n meaningful tpics.
C. Rather than a single-wrd respnse, ffer a full sentence in return.
D. Yur shared reality is a wnderful entry pint fr deeper cnversatin.
E. Yu can maximize (使最大化) these benefits by mastering sme techniques.
F. Instead, questins like “What keeps yu busy utside f wrk?” are suggested.
G. One key t changing that is t first accept that these casual chats are impssible t avid.
