The first time I went t Germany with my byfriend, I was very yung and hadn’t been t many places. As sn as we arrived, I had this incredible revelatin.“I knw all abut this area. The fd, the language. I knw all abut the Schwarzwald, the Black Frest,”I said t his German family.“Hw d yu knw abut this?” they asked, in disbelief.
That was the first time it dawned n me hw much I knew abut the rest f the wrld, and hw prepared I was fr it, just frm grwing up in New Yrk City — that I had been everywhere befre I’d ever actually gne anywhere.
I grew up in the Chelsea Prjects, 288 10th Avenue at 26th Street. A lt f kids there were first generatin Americans with immigrant parents wh were still speaking Yiddish r Chinese r Prtuguese, r just name a language, and they were speaking it. Yu ate every imaginable fd frm the rest f the wrld there. Yu were expsed t all different kinds f traditins.
It wasn’t just that. The whle city was a classrm. All ver twn, yu learned stuff yu didn’t even knw yu were learning. Yu didn’t have t be rich t learn it, either. My mm was a teacher — a great Head Start teacher — and she made sure I partk f everything New Yrk had t ffer peple wh didn’t have any mney, because she knew it was the greatest educatin in the wrld.
We went t all the museums, which were free back then. We’d ride the bus t Lincln Center, befre it was Lincln Center, and watch dancers dancing there. Or we’d take the train t Cney Island. Thse trips are amng my fndest memries.
New Yrk City played a big part in making me wh I am. It’s where I learned that I culd pursue whatever I lved, but that I culdn’t be a slacker (偷懒的人). The city is everything yu’ve heard it is. It’s crazy, it’s hrrible, it’s magnificent, it’s beautiful. It’s a real live wire, hard t leave.

Yuˈd then likely walk away, feeling happy and cntent with yur chice.

Chances are that yu might take lnger t make a chice—struggling t weigh up the benefits f each. After thinking fr a while, yu might experience brain fg and frustratin and decide yu dnˈt want an apple after all. Or, yu might chse ne and walk ff with it, nly t wnder if yu made the crrect chice. And, if by chance yu actually chse the very same apple as yu did in ur first example, the chances are that it wuldnˈt taste quite as gd.
Yu can understand the reasn fr this when yu read abut the thery f lss aversin. Put simply, studies have fund that a lss has mre than twice the psychlgical impact f an equivalent (同等的) gain. Itˈs mre preferable t avid lsing £5 than t gain £5. Such is the pain f regret in lsing ut thrugh making a ˈpr chiceˈ.
The Paradx f Chice is cmmn in mdern sciety. We live in a wrld f endless chice. Never have human beings been surrunded by such plentiful supply and cnvenience. Thus, weˈve been suffering a great deal. Hwever, ne idea that Iˈve fund helpful is t get int a habit f setting a time limit n making chices and feeling happy with that. T adpt this idea requires us t becme happy with finding smething thatˈs gd enugh, withut necessarily being the best. We culd recgnise that ur time is mre imprtant than the need t get an extra 10% n tp f what is already gd enugh.

A. Make infrmed chices.
B. Stay psitive and happy.
C. Settle fr gd enugh chices.
D. Cnsider time as the mst imprtant.

Anyne wh has taken a standardized test knws that writing an essay in 20 minutes r less takes serius brain pwer. Having access t artificial intelligence (AI) wuld certainly lighten the mental lad. But as a recent study by researchers at the Massachusetts Institute f Technlgy (MIT) suggests, that help may cme at a cst.
Over the curse f a series f essay-writing sessins, students wrking with as well as withut an AI chatbt had their brain activity measured. Acrss the bard, the AI users exhibited markedly lwer brain activity in areas assciated with creative functins and attentin.
Whether AI will leave peple's brains weak in the lng term remains an pen questin. Researchers behind this study have stressed that further wrk is needed t establish a definitive causal link between elevated AI use and weakened brains. After all, the study had a tiny sample size and fcused n a single narrw task.
Mrever, generative-AI tls clearly seek t lighten peple's mental lads, as many ther technlgies d. Cncerns abut this kind f fflading aren't new. As lng ag as the 5th century BC, Scrates was quted as cmplaining that writing is nt "a ptin(神药) fr remembering, but fr reminding". Calculatrs spare cashiers frm cmputing a bill. Navigatin apps remve the need fr map-reading. And yet few wuld argue that peple are less capable as a result.
There is little evidence t suggest that letting machines handle users' mental tasks alters the brain's capacity fr thinking. But the wrry is that generative AI allws ne t fflad a thught prcess. And nce the brain has develped a taste fr fflading, it can be a hard habit t kick. As ne user put it, "I rely s much n AI that I dn't think I'd knw hw t slve certain prblems withut it."
The technlgy is s yung that, fr many tasks, the human brain is still the sharpest tl in the tlkit. But in time bth the cnsumers f AI and its regulatrs will have t assess whether its wider benefits utweigh any cgnitive (认知) csts. If strnger evidence emerges that AI makes peple less intelligent, will they care?

C. The cnclusin it has drawn.
D. The diversity amng its participants.

A. Peple wuld avid using reminders.
B. Peple wuld stp thinking independently.
C. Peple wuld rely less n their wn memry.
D. Peple wuld care less abut the spken wrd.
14.What pint des the userˈs remark in paragraph 5 illustrate?
A. AI can change usersˈ mental capacity.
B. AI is nt widely available t the public.
C. AI can encurage usersˈ mental laziness.
D. AI is nt capable f slving every prblem.
15.What can be a suitable title fr the text?
A. Will AI Make Yu Stupid?

D. Is AI a Mental Shrtcut Yu Can Easily Quit?
