Withut thinking, I knelt dwn and began t speak t him in a sft, steady vice. I tld him he was safe, that the strm culdn’t hurt him, and I wuld nt leave him. My calm tne cmfrted him a little. As I gently reached ut, he initially mved away but then slwly leaned his head against my hand. His wet nse nudged my hand — this simple gesture meant he finally trusted me. We sat tgether until the strm passed, and he gradually calmed dwn under my gentle pats.
