When I first started teaching writing, I assigned my students a simple essay: “Why Writing Is Imprtant?” I expected thughtful respnses, but the results were disappinting. One student wrte abut his experience vlunteering at an animal shelter. He described the way the dgs wuld wag their tails when he walked in, the quiet sadness f the cats in cages, and the achievement f helping a scared puppy find a hme. Anther wrte abut her grandmther’s battle with illness and hw their weekly tea parties kept them cnnected. These pieces weren’t just well-written; they were real.
I walked int class believing that writing is imprtant as a means f cmmunicatin. Hwever, my students demnstrated smething mre imprtant t me.
