My teenager daughter, Lily, is bsessed with the character Eleven frm Netflix's Stranger Things.
Sandwiched between tw brthers, Lily is rugh at times, what back in my day peple called a tmby, mre int climbing trees than quietly playing with dlls indrs. Fr a while I feared, even with all the messages abut "girls can d anything" n TV and T-shirts, she was starting t think girls were stupid. Then alng came Stranger Things, with its tngue-tied and bald (光头) rebel wh can destry trains and cars with the pwer f her mind.
Fr the mst part, I'm thrilled that Lily wants t be Eleven, wh is the rare yung herine, equally brilliant and raw, and has perseverance and hpe, with a desire fr human cnnectin and the skill t battle the evil. She is an enrmus step up frm my childhd girl idl (崇拜对象) including all six ladies in Charlie's Angels and the Lynda Carter versin f Wnder Wman wh are all cmpetitive and smart. But it's interesting t me that my daughter lit upn a character whse primary emtin is this massive anger and whse main rle in the shw cnsists f learning t channel her anger t defeat a dark frce. Is Lily seeing what she lngs fr r identifies with? If she had such pwers, what wuld she want t d?
Parents everywhere understand there is a mental health crisis amng yung peple. Girls especially are lsing hpe. We just dn't knw hw r even what t fix. Maybe Eleven can give these girls a blueprint, r faith that they can ne day be in charge again. Maybe she can encurage thse girls t fight back. Smewhere deep dwn, they sense that rage is exactly the right thing t feel. And why waste that passin banging drs and cursing (咒骂) brthers when their anger culd be emplyed t achieve far greater things?
Fr ur daughters, Eleven lays ut a path int the future. Simply being ambitius and resurceful is n lnger enugh. Circumstances are calling fr a new srt f herism, ne with a brain pwerful enugh t make the best f her anger.

Refrigeratrs are s imprtant in mdern life that it is hard t imagine a wrld withut them. Befre mechanical refrigeratin, peple had t cl their fd using ice and snw, either fund lcally r brught dwn frm the muntains. The first fd cellars (地窖) were hles that were dug int the grund, lined with wd r straw and packed with snw and ice. This was the main way t preserve fd thrughut mst f human histry.
The inventin f refrigeratrs revlutinized the prcess. Refrigeratin wrks by remving heat frm an enclsed space, r frm a substance, t lwer its temperature. T cl fds, a refrigeratr uses the evapratin (蒸发) f a liquid r refrigerant (致冷剂) t take in heat. The liquid r refrigerant evaprates at an extremely lw temperature, creating cl temperatures inside the refrigeratr.
The first knwn artificial frm f refrigeratin was demnstrated by William Cullen at the University f Glasgw in 1748, thugh it was nt used fr any practical purpse. In 1805, Oliver Evans, an American inventr, designed a blueprint fr the first refrigeratin machine. But it wasn't until 1834 that the first practical refrigeratin machine was built by Jacb Perkins. A decade later, an American physician named Jhn Grrie built a refrigeratr based n Oliver Evans' design. Grrie used the device t cl the air fr his yellw fever patients.
Early refrigeratrs used harmful refrigerants, which psed safety risks. Leaks led t deadly accidents, prmting the develpment f safer alternatives. In respnse, three American cmpanies wrked tgether t develp a less dangerus methd, resulting in the discvery f Fren. By the 1940s, refrigeratrs using Fren became the standard fr almst all hme kitchens. But nly years later wuld peple realize that sme chemical cmpunds culd endanger the zne layer (臭氧层) f the entire planet.
Tday, cmpressr type (压缩式) refrigeratrs are dminant, and safer cling chemicals are replacing harmful nes. Additinally, refrigeratrs pwered by slar, magnetic, and acustic energy are emerging as sustainable ptins. These innvatins prmise a greener future fr refrigeratin.
28.Which best describes the cling f fd befre refrigeratrs appeared?
      A. Ineffective. B. Impssible.
      C. Incnvenient. D. Impractical.
      29.Hw d mdern refrigeratrs wrk?
      A. By circulating cld air. B. By using ice t beat heat.
      C. By remving harmful gases. D. By evaprating t absrb heat.
30.What did Jhn Grrie use his refrigeratr fr?
      A. Prducing sme ice. B. Preserving medicine.
      C. String fd fr his patients. D. Lwering rm temperature.
31.What might be the majr trend f refrigeratrs in the future?
      A. Increasing heavy reliance n Fren.
      B. Stpping using chemical cmpunds.
      C. Using ec-friendly cling technlgies.
      D. Making refrigeratrs much larger in size.
      D
Farming is mving indrs, where the sun never shines, where rainfall is irrelevant and where the climate is always right. The perfect crp field culd be inside a windwless building with cntrlled light, temperature, wetness, air quality and nutritin. It culd be a high-rise building in New Yrk r a sprawling cmplex in the Saudi desert. It may be an answer t the wrld's fd prblems.
The wrld is already having truble feeding itself. Half f the peple n earth live in cities, and nearly half f thse - abut 3 billin - are hungry r ill-fed. Fd prices, currently increasing, are buffeted by dryness, flds and the cst f energy required t plant, harvest and transprt it. And prices will nly get mre unstable. Climate change makes lng-term crp planning uncertain. Farmers in many parts f the wrld are already using water available t the last drp. And the wrld is getting mre crwded: by mid-century, the glbal hungry ppulatin will grw t 9 billin.
T feed such a large ppulatin, peple may need t expand farmland at the expense f frests and wilderness, r find ways t cmpletely increase crp utput.
Gertjan Meeuws has taken the cncept f greenhuse - grwing vegetables and huse plants in enclsed and cntrlled envirnments. In their research statin, water flws int the pans when needed, and temperature is kept cnstant. Lights g n and ff, creating similar day and night accrding t the rhythm f the plants.
A building f 100 square meters and 14 layers f plants culd prvide a daily diet f 200 kilgrams f fresh fruit and vegetables fr the entire ppulatin f Den Bsch, abut 140,000 peple. Their idea is nt t grw fds that require much space, like crn, r ptates.
Here sunlight is nt nly unnecessary but can be harmful: Plants need nly specific wavelengths f light t grw. Their grwth rate is three times faster than thse under greenhuse cnditins. They use abut 90 percent less water than utdr agriculture. And city farming means prducing fd near cnsumers, s there's n need t transprt it lng distances.
32.What des Paragraph 2 mainly tell us?
      A. Urbanizatin affects fd prices. B. Glbal fd security is in truble.
      C. Farmers make the mst f energy. D. The wrld's ppulatin is expanding.
33.The underlined wrd "buffeted" in Paragraph 2 means "______".
      A. badly affected B. sharply reduced
      C. steadily raised D. well achieved
34.What can be inferred frm Gertjan Meeuws's farming?
      A. It is the best way f farming. B. It helps save sea water a lt.
      C. It well suits different cnditins. D. It bsts the prductin f crn.
35.What is the text mainly abut?
      A. A great revlutin in farming.
      B. Advantages f indr farming.
      C. The develpment f indr farming.
      D. Sunless and rainless indr farming.

Sme patients were in wheelchairs r with their arms in bandages (绷带), while thers were with their drips (输液管) attached. Sme faces were rather pale; sme wre wrried expressins; sme walked as fast as they culd. 第二节 读后续写
We asked the girl if she wuld like t sing with us. A bright light full f yearning suddenly appeared in her eyes, but it vanished sn, replaced with a dark mixture f hesitatin, frustratin and lack f cnfidence. We insisted kindly, and everyne n the scene was s encuraging that she ultimately decided t give it a try. At the beginning, the vice seemed t be quivering and unstable, but gradually, she adjusted t the rhythm and her vice turned t be s elegant and beautiful that we even thught her thrat might be kissed by Gd. All the audience were enchanted by her lvely vice, and her cmpletin f the sng was greeted by a rund f thunderus applause. She then came back t the crwd like a herine, prud and thrilled.
After her perfrmance, I saw a change in the girl's eyes. Her timidity and the pain frm her prir misery gave way t what seemed great hpe and determinatin. With her much brighter eyes, she cnveyed her gratitude t us persnally, and prmised t keep perfrming with us after her full recvery. Fr me, her smile alne was unfrgettable enugh, but what impressed me mre was my sense f fulfillment which resulted frm helping thers. I als felt frtunate nt t miss this exceptinal trip merely due t my persnal cncerns. Fulfillment and relief tk the place f hesitatin and fear. It was like the sunlight finally pierced thrugh the waving leaves and beamed dwn n a rippling stream. Admittedly, fire can damage ne's md and make him stuck in pain. But anther fire that music can light will bring warmth t melt the ice and allw him t escape frm sadness.Ratings
