The shaking frm an earthquake can break the grund, knck dwn buildings and cause large rckfalls. Surprisingly, all this destructive pwer is just a small part f an earthquake’s ttal energy.
A new lab study in AGU Advances, a well-knwn science jurnal, shws that shaking makes up nly 1 t 8 percent f the energy an earthquake lets ut. Up t 98 percent f that energy turns int heat instead. It’s nt easy t measure (测量) hw much earthquake energy ges t shaking the grund, breaking rcks r heating up the earth quickly. A. The rcks.B. The frictin.
C. The pressure.D. The minerals.
