I had treated myself to an expensive fitness watch that tracked my time, pace and splits. At the end of my final training run—an exhausting 21 miles (34km) —I threw myself down on the floor the moment I got home, only to see my watch had failed me. Twenty-one miles briefly flashed on the screen before it went blank and disappeared for ever. I screamed in pain. That tragic image of me crying on my living room floor pretty much sums up my relationship with exercise tracking technology. It can be a total joy to watch your data change on running apps as you get stronger and faster. I once got a kick out of it, but at some point it became a stick I used to punish myself. I would watch my pace, compare it with other people’s or criticize myself for not doing it 30 seconds faster. I never really recognized exercise tracking as a problem. It seemed to me that tracking was the route to self-improvement, and the point was to improve, wasn’t it? The point was to be better. In the past year, the concept of “being better” has taken on a different meaning. My mental health dropped, and things that were once easy such as brushing my teeth became unimaginably difficult. Being better stopped meaning getting faster or stronger. It meant taking care of myself and feeling some joy in a day. Once I started getting better, I reflected on what in my life made me happy and what did not. So, I stopped tracking my runs and simply deleted years’ worth of data that was once very important to me and now meant nothing. What has become very clear to me since I quit tracking my runs is that I genuinely love doing them. I run around my local park with a silly little smile on my face. I love it so much. But I do not love running quickly. I do not like races. I do not want to be pushed to be faster. Things I notice about my runs now include: how my legs feel and how my mind feels afterwards-clear and focused. I notice dogs the smell of the wild plants along the canal and the sunshine (OK, wind and rain) on my face. I am better. Or sometimes I am worse. But either way I’m slowly plodding along, and that’s good enough.4. The author cried after the final training run because she ________.A. had to stop working out B. became physically worn outC. lost the data on the watch D. felt a sharp pain in the legs5. The author used to view exercise tracking as ________.A. a fun hobby for enjoyment B. a strong need for recognitionC. a method of escaping punishment D. a way of being a better runner6 What does “being better” mean to the author now?A. Getting pleasure out of winning races. B. Being more focused on her life goal.C. Freeing herself from demanding tasks. D. Improving her overall well-being.7. What can we conclude from this passage?A. Adjustment brings happiness. B. Passion is the key to success.C. Sports contribute to happiness. D. Success equals self-improvement.【答案】4. C 5. D 6. D 7. 根据第二段“At the end of my final training run—an exhausting 21 miles (34km) —I threw myself down on the floor the moment I got home, only to see my watch had failed me. Twenty-one miles briefly flashed on the screen before it went blank and disappeared for ever. I screamed in pain. That tragic image of me crying on my living room floor pretty much sums up my relationship with exercise tracking technology.(在最后一次训练结束时——一段令人筋疲力尽的21英里(34公里)长跑——我一回到家就一头倒在地上,结果发现手表坏了。21英里在屏幕上闪了一下,然后就消失了,永远消失了。我痛苦地尖叫起来。我在客厅地板上哭泣的悲惨画面基本上概括了我与运动追踪技术的关系)”可知,作者在最后一次训练后哭了,因为她丢失了手表上的数据。故选C。【5题详解】细节理解题。根据第三段“It can be a total joy to watch your data change on running apps as you get stronger and faster. 根据倒数第二段“Things I notice about my runs now include: how my legs feel and how my mind feels afterwards-clear and focused. I notice dogs, the smell of the wild plants along the canal and the sunshine (OK, wind and rain) on my face.(我现在跑步时注意到的事情包括:我的腿感觉如何,以及跑步后我的思维感觉如何——清晰而专注。我注意到狗,运河边野生植物的气味和我脸上的阳光(好吧,风雨))”可知,“变得更好”现在对作者来说意味着改善她的整体幸福感。故选D。【7题详解】推理判断题。通读全文,并根据第四段“In the past year, the concept of “being better” has taken on a different meaning. My mental health dropped, and things that were once easy such as brushing my teeth became unimaginably difficult. Being better stopped meaning getting faster or stronger. It meant taking care of myself and feeling some joy in a day. Once I started getting better, I reflected on what in my life made me happy and what did not. So, I stopped tracking my runs and simply deleted years’ worth of data that was once very important to me and now meant nothing.(在过去的一年里,“变得更好”的概念有了不同的含义。 A。CIn the real world, we believe humanoid robots (人形机器人) represent one of the most exciting emerging applications of generative AI (gen AI). Specifically, we see their potential to break through some of the most longstanding barriers to inclusion faced by people with disabilities sooner or later. But there’s still a serious gap between these new technologies’ very real promise and their abilities to deliver. Through a survey, we are able to look at 5,042 responses specific to those who identify as having a disability or mental problems. Among these respondents, 39% feel annoyed by technology’s inability to accurately understand their intentions. That compares with 28% of non-disabled individuals. About half of persons with disabilities believe that technology places too much responsibility on them to adapt, rather than adapting to their specific requirements. This is the case, even though 52% of people with disabilities see the potential of gen AI to enhance their performance in areas like creativity, relationship building, and idea generation. The major issue is a lack of inclusivity in the development of existing and emerging AI technologies. However, it’s not too late to course-correct. If ever there were a time to take the disability community’s slogan (口号), “Nothing about us without us,” to heart, now is that time. For gen AI-powered tools to do what we expect and want them to do, they need to have flexible, customizable interaction capabilities. To have that, they need to reflect input from the broadest possible range of humanity. This means that designers should think of inclusivity as an essential design feature, rather than as an after-the-fact modification. Translated into practice, it means asking disabled people to bring their experiences and insights to bear when developing and examining applications of new technologies.Euphonia, a project which aims at enhancing speech recognition for people with speech damage, offers an example of just this sort of training. Euphonia is now helping a former football player Tim Shaw regain his ability to communicate with others. It can interpret his directions and signal tasks accordingly. It can also “read back” what he tells it in a voice that is remarkably similar to the voice he once had, which is possible in part because it uses a large amount of Tim’s early voice s to train its tools. In the past, people generally considered robots as a distinct tool created to help people. Now, we can begin to consider them more as an extension of a person. The key will be to close the gap between making an experience inclusive and designing an inclusive experience.8. What can we infer from the survey in Paragraph 2?A. Disabled people usually avoid using gen AI.B. Non-disabled people have few gen AI problems.C. Gen AI neglects idea generation of disabled people.D. Gen AI is not user-friendly enough for disabled people.9. The author quotes “nothing about us without us” to stress that ______.A. users’ feedback on technologies often gets ignoredB. users’ requirements count in designing technologiesC. users’ advice boosts the development of technologiesD. users’ wishes reflect the improvement of technologies10. What does the word “modification” underlined in Paragraph 4 probably mean?A. Limitation. B. Creation. C. Adaptation. D. Communication.11. The author takes the example of Euphonia to show ______.A. technology can communicate with disabled peopleB. technology can enhance disabled people’s life qualityC. technology can examine inclusivity through interactionD. technology can achieve inclusivity for disabled people【答案】8. D 9. B 10. C 11. 根据第二段“But there’s still a serious gap between these new technologies’ very real promise and their abilities to deliver. This is the case, even though 52% of people with disabilities see the potential of gen AI to enhance their performance in areas like creativity, relationship building, and idea generation.(但是,在这些新技术的真正承诺和它们的交付能力之间,仍然存在着严重的差距。 根据第三段“The major issue is a lack of inclusivity in the development of existing and emerging AI technologies. However, it’s not too late to course-correct. If ever there were a time to take the disability community’s slogan (口号), “Nothing about us without us,” to heart, now is that time.(主要问题是现有和新兴人工智能技术的发展缺乏包容性。然而,现在改正还为时不晚。如果说有什么时候应该把残疾人社区的口号“没有我们的参与,不要做关于我们的决定”牢记在心,那就是现在)”可知,作者提出口号,是为了强调用户的需求在技术设计中很重要。故选B项。【10题详解】词句猜测题。根据前文“For gen AI-powered tools to do what we expect and want them to do, they need to have flexible, customizable interaction capabilities. To have that, they need to reflect input from the broadest possible range of humanity. This means that designers should think of inclusivity as an essential design feature(为了让新一代人工智能工具能够完成我们的期望和期望,它们需要具有灵活、可定制的交互功能。要做到这一点,它们需要反映尽可能广泛的人类输入。这意味着设计师应该将包容性视为一个基本的设计特征)”可知,产品设计需要具有灵活、可定制的交互功能,而不是事后的修改适应。由此猜测“modification”应是“修改”之意,和C项意思相近。故选C项。【11题详解】推理判断题。根据倒数第二段“Euphonia, a project which aims at enhancing speech recognition for people with speech damage, offers an example of just this sort of training. Euphonia is now helping a former football player Tim Shaw regain his ability to communicate with others. It can interpret his directions and signal tasks accordingly. It can also “read back” what he tells it in a voice that is remarkably similar to the voice he once had, which is possible in part because it uses a large amount of Tim’s early voice s to train its tools.(Euphonia是一个旨在提高语言障碍患者语音识别能力的项目,它提供了这类培训的一个例子。Euphonia现在正在帮助前足球运动员Tim Shaw恢复与他人沟通的能力。它可以解释他的指示,并相应地发出任务信号。它还可以“读回”他说的话,声音与他曾经的声音非常相似,部分原因是它使用了大量蒂姆早期的声音来训练它的工具)”可知,作者以Euphonia为例说明技术可以实现对残疾人的包容。故选D项。DIn parts of Africa, people communicate with a wild bird — the greater honeyguide-in order to locate bee habitats and harvest their stores of honey. It’s a rare example of cooperation between humans and wild animals, and a potential instance of cultural coevolution Brian Wood from UCLA and Claire Spottiswoode from University of Cape Town were lead authors on a study showing how this valuable partnership is maintained and varies across cultures. “Our study demonstrates the bird’s ability to learn distinct voiced signals that are traditionally used by different honey-hunting communities, expanding possibilities for mutually beneficial cooperation with people,” Wood said. “Honeyguides seem to know the landscape well, gathering knowledge about the location of bee nests, which they then share with people,” Spottiswoode said. “People are eager for the bird’s help.” The honeyguides also benefit from locating the colonies: They eat the leftover honeycomb. Spottiswoode and Wood’s study was done in cooperation with the Hadza in Tanzania, with whom Wood has been conducting research since 2004, and the Yao community of northern Mozambique. Their prior work in both communities documented differences in how each culture attracts honeyguides. Among the Hadza, a honey-hunter announces a desire to partner with the bird by whistling. In Mozambique, Yao honey-hunters do so with a “Brr!”... followed by a “...hmm!”Using mathematical models and audio playback experiments, the team studied these signals, their usefulness to people and their impacts on birds. They experimentally exposed honeyguides in Tanzania and Mozambique to the same set of prerecorded sounds. This enabled the researchers to test whether honeyguides had learned to recognize and prefer the specialized signals that local honey-hunters used or were naturally attracted to all such signals. The honeyguides in Tanzania were over three times more likely to cooperate when hearing the calls of local Hadza people than the calls of ‘foreign’ Yao. The honeyguides in Mozambique were almost twice as likely to cooperate when hearing the local Yao call, compared to the ‘foreign’ Hadza whistles. The study proposes that differences in honeyguide-attracting signals are not random, but make practical sense. While honey-hunting, both the Hadza and Yao come across mammals (哺乳动物), but only the Hadza hunt them, using bows and arrows. The Hadza’s hunting might explain the less notable whistles they use. Filmed interviews show Hadza hunters explaining that they can evade being detected by their prey (猎物) because their whistles “sound like birds.” Contrarily, the signal the Yao use to communicate with the honeyguide can help scare off animals they find dangerous.12. By cooperating with honey-hunting communities, honeyguides can _____.A. nest near human cultureB. locate bee habitats easierC. have access to more foodD. become familiar with the landscape13. Why did the researchers use the same prerecorded signals?A. To study their mathematical models.B. To check if they are a natural preference.C. To investigate their usefulness to humans.D. To see if they increase birds’ ability to find honey.14. What can we learn from Spottiswoode and Wood’s study?A. The human-bird relationship can change with new signals.B. The Yao community hunts animals while looking for bee nests.C. The honeyguides are more responsive to calls from the local people.D. The signals from the Hadza were more effective in attracting honeyguides.15. What is the last paragraph mainly about?A. How mammals react to different signals.B. How hunting techniques are applied to prey.C. How whistles enable honeyguides to find targets.D. How signals are associated with hunting practice.【答案】12. C 13. B 14. C 15. 根据文章第二段““Our study demonstrates the bird’s ability to learn distinct voiced signals that are traditionally used by different honey-hunting communities, expanding possibilities for mutually beneficial cooperation with people, ” Wood said. “Honeyguides seem to know the landscape well, gathering knowledge about the location of bee nests, which they then share with people,” Spottiswoode said. “People are eager for the bird’s help.” The honeyguides also benefit from locating the colonies: They eat the leftover honeycomb.(伍德说:“我们的研究表明,这种鸟有能力学习不同的声音信号,这些信号是不同的采蜜社区传统上使用的,这扩大了与人类互利合作的可能性。”斯波蒂斯伍德说:“蜜䴕似乎很了解周围的风景,它们会收集蜂巢的位置信息,然后与人们分享。人们渴望这只鸟的帮助。”蜜䴕也从定位蜂群中获益:它们吃剩下的蜂巢)”可知,通过与采蜜社区合作,蜜䴕可以获得更多的食物。故选C项。【13题详解】细节理解题。根据文章第四段“They experimentally exposed honeyguides in Tanzania and Mozambique to the same set of prerecorded sounds. This enabled the researchers to test whether honeyguides had learned to recognize and prefer the specialized signals that local honey-hunters used or were naturally attracted to all such signals.(他们将坦桑尼亚和莫桑比克的蜜䴕暴露在同一组预先录制好的声音中进行实验。这使研究人员能够测试蜜䴕是学会了识别和偏爱当地采蜜者使用的特殊信号,还是自然地被所有这些信号所吸引)”可知,研究人员在同一组预先录制好的声音中进行实验来检验蜜䴕被信号吸引是否是一种自然偏好。故选B项。【14题详解】推理判断题。根据文章倒数第二段“The honeyguides in Tanzania were over three times more likely to cooperate when hearing the calls of local Hadza people than the calls of ‘foreign’ Yao. The honeyguides in Mozambique were almost twice as likely to cooperate when hearing the local Yao call, compared to the ‘foreign’ Hadza whistles.(坦桑尼亚的蜜䴕在听到当地哈扎族人的叫声时,配合的可能性是听到“外国”瑶族叫声的三倍多。莫桑比克的蜜䴕在听到当地瑶族的叫声时,与听到“外来”哈扎族的哨声相比,合作的可能性几乎是前者的两倍)”可推知,蜜䴕对当地人的呼唤更有反应。故选C项。【15题详解】主旨大意题。根据文章最后一段“The study proposes that differences in honeyguide-attracting signals are not random, but make practical sense. While honey-hunting, both the Hadza and Yao come across mammals, but only the Hadza hunt them, using bows and arrows. The Hadza’s hunting might explain the less notable whistles they use. Initially, it was just a little, but then, it seemed like overnight, my face was covered with it. I tried to hide it with my hair, but it just wouldn’t work.I was consumed with worry that my peers would make fun of me. I couldn’t concentrate in class, as my mind was constantly preoccupied with my appearance, causing my grades to slip sharply. I started to feel inferior to my classmates and even avoid interaction with them. I tried to get rid of the acne. I washed my face multiple times a day, using all sorts of acne creams I found. I also avoided snacks that might cause it. But all ended up in vain. One day, our school announced a sports day and the teacher asked us to form our own teams. As a sports enthusiast, I had been eagerly expecting it, but I was scared that no one would join me because of how I looked. Standing in front of the mirror, I kept imagining how my classmates would react when I asked them to team up with me. The fear of rejection held me back from approaching them. But then, Kim came to me, “Do you want to join us for the relay race (接力赛)? I’ve seen you run before and you’ve got the speed. If you join us, we’ll have a good chance to win.” In disbelief, I managed to utter “Yes”, still feeling self-conscious but also incredibly grateful.Along with three other classmates, I signed up for the relay race. We trained and discussed strategies together, with no one paying any attention to my acne. Thanks to my speed advantage, I was even assigned to run the final leg — the most critical role in the race.注意:(1)续写词数应为150个左右;(2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。Then came the long-awaited sports day. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________The victory was a turning point in my junior life. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________【答案】Then came the long-awaited sports day. My palms were sweaty as I stood at the final position of the track. When the third runner approached, I grabbed the baton firmly and sprinted like the wind. Cheers erupted as I overtook two opponents. Crossing the finish line first, I saw my teammates rushing towards me with joyful screams. To my surprise, classmates patted my shoulder excitedly, their eyes shining with admiration instead of judgment. Kim hugged me, “You’re our superhero!” No one mentioned my acne — they only remembered my flying figure on the track. The victory was a turning point in my junior life. Gradually I realized people valued my abilities more than my appearance. I started raising my hand in class again and joined the school basketball team. Though acne still occasionally troubled me, I stopped hiding behind my hair. When a new student once asked about my skin, Kim immediately defended, “That’s just his warrior paint from saving our relay race!” We all laughed, and I finally understood true friendship sees beyond surfaces.【解析】【导语】本文以人物为线索展开,主要讲述了作者进入七年级后因长青春痘而自卑,担心同学嘲笑,成绩下滑,在运动会接力赛报名时,Kim邀请作者加入,作者最终和队友们一起训练并在比赛中获胜的故事。 词汇激活行为类 ①抓住:grab/seize②拥抱:hug/embrace③举手:raise one’s hand/put up one’s hand情绪类 ①激动地:excitedly/with excitement②欣赏:admiration/appreciation【点睛】【高分句型2】My palms were sweaty as I stood at the final position of the track.(运用了as引导时间状语从句)【高分句型2】Gradually I realized people valued my abilities more than my appearance.
