“Peple always get surprised when they realize they get nvel ideas at unexpected times,” says Kalina Christff, a scientist at the University f British Clumbia in Vancuver, “because ur culture tells us that we shuld d it thrugh hard wrk.”
Nw researchers begin t understand why these clever thughts ccur during mre passive activities and what’s happening in the brain. They have fund that the key is a series f brain activities—within what’s called the default mde (DM) netwrk—that ccur while an individual is perfrming habitual tasks that dn’t require much attentin.
“Simply put, it is a state that yur brain returns t when yu’re relaxed,” explains Christff. “By cntrast, when yu’re wrking n a cmplicated task, the brain’s executive cntrl (EC) systems keep yur thinking fcused, analytical, and lgical.”
Researchers find that the DM netwrk is als invlved in the early stages f idea generatin, drawing frm past experiences and knwledge abut the wrld. When yur mind wanders, yu’re allwing thughts t playfully crss yur mind, which helps yu cmbine infrmatin and ideas in new ways and smething clicks.
“A cautinary nte: While the DM netwrk plays a key rle in the creative prcess, it is the EC systems that help yu t evaluate and apply the creative ideas effectively t yur prblems in the real wrld,” Christff says. “S it’s unwise t place blind faith in the discvery that creative ideas can be generated in the walking r during any ther kinds f mind wandering. In the vast and diverse wrld f animals, there exists dd gestures that ften leave us humans puzzled and amazed. These gestures, which may seem strange r unusual t us, are actually fascinating glimpses(一瞥) int the unique behavirs and cmmunicatin styles f ur pets.

Cat wners als misunderstand their pets’ kisses. While a cat might lick yu t shw lve, smetimes she’ll d it t cmfrt herself. One way t tell if her licking is stress-related is whether it ges n fr a lng perid f time.
At sme pint yu’ve prbably tld these wrds t smene wh made yu angry. Dgs think similarly, aviding eye cntact with anyne wh injures their feelings. Anther sign f anger: yawning (打哈欠). A yawning dg may nt be tired but anxius, nt bred but stressed. Similarly, lip-licking — when there isn’t fd arund t bring abut it — is anther sign f threat.
Yu might think yur dg is running arund the backyard, having the time f his life while yu’re away. But the reality is that he’s mst likely just sitting in ne spt fr hurs, waiting fr yu t return with anxiety. Dgs actually prefer t be inside, ideally with their wners.
      32. If a dg intends t eat fd, which actin will it take?
      A. It fllws his tail.B. It barks cnstantly.
      C. It licks its wner’s face.D. It keeps rlling arund.
      33. What d we learn abut the gesture f a cat’s cnstant kisses?
      A. It feels anxius.B. It feels excited.
      C. It feels annyed.D. It feels entertained.
      34. What des it reveal when the dg sits fr a lng time withut mving?
      A. The dg is tired.B. The dg is embarrassed.
      C. The dg is bred t play with yu. D. The dg is eager t see yur return.

      What Sprtsmanship Means t Me
I learned what true sprtsmanship means during a crucial basketball game. With secnds left, ur star player, Mike, was fuled but the referee missed it. We all expected Mike t argue, yet he simply shk his head, helped his ppnent up, and gt back int psitin. That mment f respect and fairness, in the heat f cmpetitin, was mre pwerful than any victry.
This incident taught me that sprtsmanship isn’t abut winning at all csts; it’s abut integrity and respect. It means playing fair even when n ne is watching, and valuing the spirit f the game mre than the screbard. These are the lessns that truly prepare us fr the bigger game f life.
      第二节 (满分25分)
