Nwadays, bamb grwth cycles and the dietary needs f lemurs (狐猴) are ut f sync. Findings shw rainfalls are changing annually. Over the past tw years, there has been a three-mnth delay in the rainy seasn and new tender shts that lemurs cnsume fr nutritin are appearing in January and February — 14 days after the first rainfall, says Patricia Chapple Wright, a primatlgist, anthrplgist, and cnservatinist at Stny Brk University. “Lemurs eat a fd surce that is very adaptive,” Patricia Wright tld PBS NewsHur. “It’s able t stand climate change, but the lemurs, unfrtunately, can't adapt quickly t this changed cycle.”
Since baby lemurs are brn in Nvember, the delayed rainy seasn is dangerusly affecting the survival f them fr lack f nutritin available fr bth the mthers and ffspring. “This is why, fr extreme feeding specialists like the greater bamb lemur, climate change can be an unknwing killer.” Wright says, “Making the lemurs rely n bamb stems fr just a bit lnger may be enugh t tip the balance frm existence t extinctin.” The lemurs’ highly specialized teeth are als similar t the pandas’ teeth. Bth are the mammals able t chew up stems. But this diet can’t last fr mre than a seasn r tw because the stems can wear away their teeth.
The researchers believe that climate change is affecting the lemurs. The fssil recrd shws that the lemurs nce lived thrughut the island. Tday, the mammals are crnered n the eastern side, where the dry seasn at present is the shrtest. And if peple cntinue the defrestatin practice in the area, the lemurs will have nwhere t g.
The situatin is serius, s Wright and her clleagues plan t create bamb crridrs within the rainfrest, which will prvide available bamb t eat. They want t wrk with lcal villagers t plant mre bamb and manage autmatic watering systems when dry seasns last lng. They als want t build the lcal ecnmy by allwing peple t harvest a part f bamb while the rest remains with the lemurs, s peple will be interested. Wright’s cnservatin plans include mving lemurs back t ther places n the island as well.
      28. What des the underlined part in Paragraph 1 mst prbably mean?
      A. G with each ther. B. Occur at different times.
      C. Lead t a heated discussin. D. Call fr effective prtectin.
      29. Why will lemurs get hungry if the dry seasn cntinues?
      A. They may run ut f bamb. B. They can’t adapt t the ht seasn.
      C. They dislike the less delicius stems.D. They can’t chew the stems fr a lng perid.
      30. What mainly caused the living area f lemurs t narrw?
      A. The climate change. B. Their teeth prtectin.
      C. The decreasing frest. D. Their special dietary habits.

The burning f cal may be falling ut f favr as a means f generating heat and electricity, but that desn’t mean it n lnger has valuable uses. The team f King Abdullah University f Science and Technlgy (KAUST) is using cal fr a new ecnmy.
The prject is led by Assciate Prfessr Andrea Fratalcchi. While reading abut challenges f ending the use f cal in pwer generatin, Fratalcchi was struck by a nvel pssible use fr cal. “ Why dn’t we use cal fr seawater desalinatin(脱盐)?” Fratalcchi recalls, still excited. Capable f taking in sunlight, the black mineral adds t the list f substances in dark clrs serving the purpse, which the team is n a lng-standing hunt fr.
Fralalcchi and his team began t explre the use f a material knwn as carbnized cmpressed pwder, als CCP, which is created by breaking cal int pwder, and then pressing that pwder back int a slid that has mre tiny hles—it can als be made int a desired shape. The team mixed CCP with natural cttn fibers, prducing a blck which was then placed within a seawater-cntaining cntainer, with its bttm tuching water surface. While sunlight heated the black surface f the blck, the inside fibers helped water flw in and thrugh the blck frm the bttm. When that liquid water reached the ht surface, it turned int steam which rse and cndensed(冷凝)n the inside f a specially shaped cver. That cndensatin then flew dwn the cver and was cllected as fresh, drinkable water. The seawater’s salt cntent remained behind within the CCP. A simple wash was enugh t remve mst f it, s the material culd be reused multiple times.
KAUST has partnered with the Dutch start-up PERA Cmplexity t prmte the technlgy. The material will see its first use in a pilt plant in Brazil. “CCP is abundant in nature and reasnable t use, besides being lightweight and highly changeable,” says team member Marcella Bnifazi.” The device’s desalinatin rate per unit f raw material is tw t three times higher than that f any ther slar desalinatin system, but it prduces fresh water at arund ne-third the expense f current state-f-the-art technlgies.
      32. What has Fratalcchi’s team been seeking fr?
      A. Fibers functining well with CCP.B. Green ways t desalinate seawater.
      C. New industrial applicatins f cal.D. Dark-clred materials fr desalinatin.
      33. Hw did the seawater get int the CCP blck?
      A. Thrugh the tiny hles.B. Thrugh CCP.
      C. Thrugh cttn fibers.D. Thrugh a special cver.
      34. Which feature f CCP des Marcella Bnifazi stress?
      A. Being ec-friendly. B. Being lw-cst.
      C. Being efficient. D. Being flexible.
      35. What des the text mainly talk abut?
      A. Drinkable water will be gt frm the sea.
      B. CCP is expected t be in real-life use sn.
      C. Cal finds new use in desalinatin technlgy.
      D. Scientists have made a breakthrugh in desalinatin.
      第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
      根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
IQ scres like Einstein’s 160 r Madnna’s 140 grab attentin, but EQ (Emtinal Intelligence), MQ (Mral Intelligence), and BQ (Bdy Intelligence) are far mre critical fr success. A high IQ is necessary but nt enugh. Fr example, peple prefer ding business with thse they like and trust, even with less favrable terms. 36
      Emtinal Intelligence
EQ centers n recgnizing and regulating emtins — bth yur wn and thers’, using them apprpriately in situatins, and building strng relatinships. 37 This practice sharpens self-awareness f hw thughts influence feelings. Stress can be a huge killer f emtinal intelligence, s yu als need t develp healthy cping techniques that can effectively and quickly reduce stress.
      Mral Intelligence
MQ builds n EQ, fcusing n respnsibility, sympathy, and frgiveness. It grws n keeping cmmitments, staying hnest, and treating thers with respect. T imprve it, replace excuses with respnsibility fr yur actins. 38 Shw genuine sympathy fr thers’ struggles, as empathy prmtes cnnectin. Equally imprtant is frgiveness — shwing tlerance f ther peple’s shrtcmings.
      Bdy Intelligence
BQ reflects hw well yu understand, value, and care fr yur bdy. Thugh it may seem unrelated t wrk, it abslutely affects yur wrk because it largely determines yur feelings, state f mind, and energy level. 39 Chsing energy-giving fds ver tiring nes, ensuring sufficient rest, making time fr exercise, and even small steps like mnitring weight can dramatically benefit the way yu perfrm at wrk.
40 Smene with these qualities can utperfrm a highly educated persn lacking them. IQ benefits yu alne, but EQ, MQ, and BQ uplift thse arund yu, unlcking greater success and prfessinal respect.
A.This can build thers’ trust in yu.
B.This leads t repeated mistakes in yur act.
C.Withut it, even daily tasks can feel unmanageable.
D.Develping it means nticing daily signs and acting n them.
E.Frmal educatin matters less than develped EQ, MQ, and BQ.
F.T imprve it, start by tracking yur inner dialgue thrugh jurnaling.
G.Thus, investing in EQ, MQ and BQ matters mre than just fixing n IQ.

I was invited t a ckut n an ld friend's farm in western Washingtn. I parked my car utside the farm and walked past a milking huse which had apparently nt been used in many years. A nise at a windw caught my attentin, s I entered it. It was a hummingbird (蜂鸟), desperately trying t escape. She was cvered in spider-webs (蛛网) and was barely able t mve her wings. She ceased her struggle the instant I picked her up.
With the bird in my cupped hand, I lked arund t see hw she had gtten in. The brken windw glass was the likely answer. I stuffed a piece f clth int the hle and tk her utside, clsing the dr securely behind me.
When I pened my hand, the bird did nt fly away; she sat lking at me with her bright eyes. I remved the sticky spider-webs that cvered her head and wings. Still, she made n attempt t fly. Perhaps she had been struggling against the windw t lng and was t tired? Or t thirsty?
As I carried her up the blackberry-lined path tward my car where I kept a water bttle, she began t mve. I stpped, and she sn tk wing but did nt immediately fly away.
Hvering (悬停), she apprached within six inches f my face. Fr a very lng mment, this tiny creature lked int my eyes, turning her head frm side t side. Then she flew quickly ut f sight.
During the ckut, I tld my hsts abut the hummingbird incident. They prmised t fix the windw. As I was departing, my friends walked me t my car. I was standing by the car when a hummingbird flew t the center f ur grup and began hvering. She turned frm persn t persn until she came t me. She again lked directly int my eyes, then let ut a squeaking call and was gne. Fr a mment, all were speechless. Then smene said, “She must have cme t say gd- bye.”
