Dlphin(海豚) cmmunicatin has always interested scientists. The intelligent creatures use a range f nises t wrk tgether and stay cnnected. Sme sunds even act like names, helping dlphins recgnize ne anther. Nw, researchers at Ggle and Gergia Tech hpe t understand dlphin speech—and maybe even talk t them—with the help f Artificial Intelligence(AI).
The scientists began by training an AI language mdel called DlphinGemma, which used 40 years f data frm a grup f Atlantic dlphins in the Bahamas. The recrdings and vides were cllected by researchers at the Wild Dlphin Prject(WDP). They gt nt nly the sunds dlphins made but als the situatin in which they were used.
Once ready, DlphinGemma can prduce sunds analgus t the recrdings. Abut half are just cean nise. The rest are dlphins' clicks(短而尖的声音), whistles(口哨声), and burst pulses. Burst pulses are spaced clicks that sund like a machine. Dlphins use them t talk, play, and find their way.
The next step is t test if these sunds prduced by DlphinGemma wrk n dlphins. T d this, the team is building a device(装置) named CHAT. Once ready, tw divers will wear CHAT and swim alngside the dlphins. CHAT will play a dlphin's whistle prduced by AI t "ask" fr an bject, like a bttle. At the same time, the divers will pass the bject back and frth. If a dlphin cpies the whistle, the divers will reward it with the bttle.
Thea Taylr is the directr f the Sussex Dlphin Prject. She warns that the researchers must be sure the dlphins are cmmunicating—nt just making the sunds t get the bject. "We have t think whether that's actually an understanding f language—r whether it's the same as teaching a dg t sit because they get a reward,"Taylr said.
Regardless f the result, the DlphinGemma team hpes their prject will shw hw smart dlphins are. Learning mre abut their cmmunicatin culd change hw we see and treat them.
      28. What did researchers use DlphinGemma t d first?
      A. T cpy the sunds f dlphins' speaking.
      B. T identify every dlphin's name.
      C. T analyze decades f cean sunds.
      D. T cllect mre dlphins' recrding data.

      A. Clever.B. Nisy.C. Similar.D. Strange.
      30. What is the main purpse f using CHAT in the experiment?

      B. T test if dlphins understand sunds made by AI.
      C. T feed dlphins in a natural envirnment.
      D. T cmpare the speeches f dlphins and humans.
      31. What's Taylr's attitude twards using CHAT?
      A. Psitive.B. Dubtful.C. Cnfident.D. Favurable.

Did yu knw that dry deserts in sme cuntries have becme green and rich farmland? In places like the United Arab Emirates and China, fruits and vegetables nw grw well, ffering fresh fd t lcal peple.
Back in the 1980s, the Nile Delta in Egypt—a place famus fr gd farming—suddenly became empty and lifeless. Fr many years, fld waters frm the Nile River had brught tiny clay(黏土) pieces t the sil(土壤). These helped the land stay strng and rich. But when the Aswan Dam(大坝) was built, it stpped the clay frm flwing with the water. Withut this clay, the sil became weaker and less able t grw crps.
Clay had been used in farming befre, but it tk a lt f wrk, ften harmed nature, and culd prduce greenhuse gases. Nw, by studying hw sil wrks, a cmpany frm Nrway has made a prduct that can bring life back t dry lands: liquid nanclay(LNC). LNC is a careful mix f clay and water. It frms a thin liquid that ges deep int the grund, belw where mst plant rts grw. The tiny clay pieces stick t sand and frm a netwrk that hlds water much better. This helps the sil stay wet and rich fr lnger.
While LNC can cut water use by up t 47%, it's nt a perfect slutin. Right nw, treating ne square meter f land csts abut $2—a price t high fr many pr areas. Als, it nly wrks well n sandy sils, s ther places with different sil types will need different slutins. LNC culd als help grw frests in dry areas, giving animals mre hmes and helping bring mre rain. But this might hurt desert animals and peple wh are used t living in dry places. Deserts may seem empty, but they play an imprtant rle in nature—they help cntrl the Earth's temperature.
      32. What is the influence f the Aswan Dam?
      A. Make the land pr.B. Lead t flding.
      C. Raise crp prductin.D. Bring a lt f clay.
      33. What is the third paragraph mainly abut cncerning LNC?
      A. Its prductin cst.B. Its business value.
      C. Its harmful influence.D. Its wrking rule.
      34. Which is the limitatin f LNC?
      A. Its clur.B. Its prductin.
      C. Its selling price.D. Its instructins fr use.
      35. What is the best title fr the text?
      A. LNC: A Perfect Slutin t Desert Farming
      B. The Aswan Dam and Its Harm t the Nile Delta
      C. Turning Deserts int Farmland: Hpes and Challenges
      D. Hw Clay Helps Sil Stay Rich and Prductive

Abut half are just cean nise. The rest are dlphins’ clicks, whistles, and burst pulses.”

      44. B 根据上文“she… in tears while in class”可知,老师注意到Eby的异常,自然会想了解“出了什么问题”。“what was wrng”是符合语境的固定表达。
      45. B 上文明确提到“The girls that I played with tld me…”, 此处Eby向老师倾诉的内容应首先围绕那些排斥她的“女孩们”。“girls”与前文直接呼应。
      46. D 根据下文“I remember waking up ne mrning and realizing… that my brther was gne. It felt like… peple I lved disappeared”可知,哥哥对Eby来说是重要的情感支柱。“rck”(支柱) 形象体现了这种支撑作用。
      47. A 上文提到“vernight they tk him”,下文衔接“with my dad”,说明哥哥被送到了父亲那里。“drpped sb. ff”是固定短语,意为“送某人到某地”,与“tk him”形成动作衔接。
      48. D 根据“that my brther was gne”可知,Eby的心情是失落沉重的。“sinking heart”(沉重的心情)生动描述了这种失落感,与“哥哥突然离开”的情境匹配。
      49. B 根据下文“peple I lved disappeared”可知,Eby的感受是无论看向哪里,都找不到依靠。“everywhere I turned”(无论我转向哪里)符合这种“四处寻找却无果”的无助感。
      50. A 上文提到“peple I lved disappeared”,下文“they didn’t tell me why”进一步强化了Eby被抛弃的感受。“stpped lving me”(不再爱我)直接体现了这种情感上的断裂,与“lved”形成呼应。
      51. D 结合上文“my brther was gne”和“They stpped lving me”可知,Eby对这些状况无力改变。“had n cntrl ver it”(无法掌控这一切)精准表达了这种“失控感”,与“被动承受变故”的语境一致。
      52. A 上文Eby向老师讲述了女孩们排斥她以及哥哥离开的经过,这些是她的人生经历。“tld the whle stry”(讲述了整个故事)与上文“But then I tld her the rest f the stry”形成呼应。
      53. B 下文提到“She pulled me clse t her and… She let me cry”,可见老师的态度是安抚性的。“gently”(温柔地)与这种安抚行为一致。
      54. B 上文提到“She pulled me clse t her”,下文明确说“And smehw her hug centered me”,可见此处动作是“拥抱”。“hugged”与上下文形成直接呼应。
      55. C 上文提到“her hug centered me”,下文提到“it made me feel that I wuld be OK”,可见拥抱给了Eby鼓励。

      57. that/which 考查定语从句。
此处为状语从句的省略,完整结构应为“These gals, nce (they were) thught impssible”。
