In ceans acrss the glbe, a tiny jellyfish (水母) species shws a remarkable death-defying ability. After reaching sexual maturity, this jellyfish can turn back int its yung frm and then mature again—a prcess similar t a butterfly turning back int a caterpillar and then changing int a butterfly again. Like a typical jellyfish, T. dhrnii begins its life as a free-flating larva (幼体) and matures int a branching, plant-like plyp (水螅体). Frm there, multiple yung jellyfish grw ut f the plyp and turn int adults. Hwever, the difference is that when an adult T. dhrnii is damaged r stressed, instead f dying, it absrbs its wn arms and becmes a blb that settles t the sea flr. Over the next day and a half, this blb transfrms int a new plyp, which can then frm mre jellyfish. Therefre, thugh T. dhrnii may be eaten by predatrs, it des nt die f ld age.
A new study cmpared T. dhrnii t T. rubra, a related jellyfish species that underges nrmal aging. Researchers als fund differences in several ther genes, including thse assciated with replicatin and the stem cell ppulatin. These differences may be key t the jellyfish’s immrtality.
Researchers say these findings culd help humans—but nt in the exact same way. They believe their study culd help find better answers t the many diseases assciated with aging. They als hpe a better understanding f these jellyfish genes might inspire regenerative medicine fr humans.

Unlcking Immrtality: The Genetic Secrets f the Jellyfish That Reverses Aging.
