I used t be the mst devted reslutin-maker. Every January 1st, I wuld set ambitius gals like lsing 50 punds, running a marathn, r becming the perfect parent wh never gt angry. Yet, I never accmplished them. By February r March, my willpwer faded, and I fell back int ld habits. Every winter, I’d feel guilty and ashamed, lking back at all f the amazing things I didn’t d.

An innvative virtual reality (VR) sprts prgram, using advanced artificial intelligence (AI), has shwn encuraging results in fighting against teen besity (肥胖). Fr eight weeks, nearly 180 verweight r bese Chinese teenagers, wh were brn in the digital age, tk part in a virtual caching prgram invlving table tennis and sccer. The new VR sprts initiative is part f China’s effrts t prevent teen besity by using the mst advanced AI technlgy.
Teen besity has becme a glbal public health crisis. China is nw priritizing dealing with teen besity in its public health initiatives. Faced with this challenge, sme scientists are investigating whether VR technlgy can help digitally-native teenagers reach weight-lss gals safely and effectively.
An internatinal research team led by scientists frm Shanghai Jia Tng University develped REVERIE the wrld’s first intelligent VR sprts interactive system. Prfessr Li Wei, a lead health scientist n the prject, explained: “We created a transfrmer-based AI cach, trained using deep reinfrcement learning, which prvides real-time feedback and adapts t individual perfrmance.”
In the eight-week trial, participants were divided int grups engaging in either real-wrld sprts, namely table tennis r sccer, VR-based versins f the same sprts, r a cntrl grup with n additinal exercise. Participants utside the cntrl grup received exercise interventin (干预) sessins three times a week, in additin t their regular physical educatin classes at schl.
Encuragingly, REVERIE has demnstrated significant ptential in helping verweight and bese teens lse weight, imprve cgnitive (认知的) functin, and maintain lng-term exercise mtivatin.
