Currents cllect this waste in large circular systems called “gyres”. One f the largest is in the Pacific Ocean, an area nw knwn as the “Great Pacific Garbage Patch”.
The prblem gets wrse as plastic breaks dwn int very small pieces, r “micr plastic”. This is eaten by fish and leads t massive species lss. Humans als eat these fish, and micr plastic has even been fund in tap water arund the wrld. The prblem has spread t far t ignre.
