The arm bnes f wmen wh lived 7,000 years ag shw a surprising level f strength — even higher than tday’s prfessinal athletes. The bne reacts by changing in shape, thickness and ther aspects ver time.”
“Previus studies nly cmpared female bnes t cntemprary male bnes,” the researchers said, “And that’s a prblem, because the respnse f male bnes t stress and change is much bigger than that f wmen. Fr instance, as humans mved frm a hunter-gatherer lifestyle cnstantly n the mve t a mre settled agrarian (农耕的)ne, changes can be bserved in the structure f the shinbne (胫骨), and these changes were much mre evident in men.”
Hwever, a cmparisn f the bnes f prehistric wmen t the bnes f living female athletes can help us wrk ut a mre accurate picture f what thse prehistric wmen were ding. “By analyzing the bnes f living peple and cmparing them t the ancient bnes, we can start t explain the kinds f labr ur ancestrs were refrming,” Macintsh said. What they fund was that wmen’s leg strength hasn’t changed a great deal, but their arms used t be very pwerful. Prehistric wmen, the researchers fund, had arm strength 11-16 percent strnger than thse f mdern rwers, and 30 percent strnger than thse f nn-athletes.
28. What can we knw abut prehistric wmen?

根据最后一段“What they fund was that wmen’s leg strength hasn’t changed a great deal, but their arms used t be very pwerful. Bathing in the sun has been cnsidered a health hazard fr at least fur decades. It mainly cmes frm ultravilet (UV) light, which the Sun emits alngside visible radiatin. The risks UV pses are real, but a new research suggests it may be time t cnsider the benefits. Accrding t a study published recently in Health and Place, increased UV expsure appears t make peple significantly less likely t die f cardivascular (心血管) disease as well as cancer.
T cnduct their analysis, the researchers frm the University f Edinburgh used data frm ver 360,000 peple in the UK Bibank, a database. They identified tw grups mre likely t have high UV expsure: thse wh claimed t use sunbeds r sunlamps; and thse living in sunnier lcatins. T check that their assumptins abut the subjects’ UV expsure were crrect, the scientists als lked at vitamin D levels in a subset f bld samples. As vitamin D is synthesised in the skin in the presence f certain frms f UV radiatin, it is a reliable indicatr f slar expsure.
Their analysis shwed that sunbed-users were 23% less likely t die f cardivascular disease, and 14% less likely t die f cancer, than nn-users. Similar trends held depending n where peple lived. Sunbed-users, in ther wrds, lived an average f 48 days lnger than nn-users ver the 15 years during which they were studied.
The exact mechanism whereby UV light might lengthen lives is unknwn. The authrs believe part f the explanatin may lie in vitamin D’s cmpetence in bsting the immune system and imprving bne health. They als pint t nitric xide (NO,一氧化氮), a pwerful bld-vessel widener capable f reducing the risk f cardivascular disease. A prir research published in the Jurnal f Investigative Dermatlgy shwed that NO is released in skin cells that have mderate expsure t sme UV radiatin, and sunlight helps mve it int the circulatry systems. But fr nw, experts agree the study is nt a licence t stp wearing sun cream.
32. Hw des the authr present the issue in the first paragraph?
A. By giving examples.B. By defining a cncept.
C. By prviding a lng-held pinin.D. By making cmparisn.
33. What is emplyed t measure UV expsure?
A. The lcatins f living.B. The length f sunbathing.
C. The frequency f sunbathing.D. The level f vitamin D in bld.
34. Which mechanism is a pssible way UV expsure lengthens life?
A. Reducing bne density.B. Mving the circulatry system.
C. Restricting the immune system.D. Releasing NO t widen bld vessels.
35. Which f the fllwing is the best title fr this article?
A. Sunbathing: Risking Our Skin.B. UV Expsure: Benefits r Nt?

根据第一段中“Bathing in the sun has been cnsidered a health hazard fr at least fur decades.(至少四十年来,晒太阳一直被认为是一种健康危害。)”

As vitamin D is synthesised in the skin in the presence f certain frms f UV radiatin, it is a reliable indicatr f slar expsure.(为了验证他们对受试者紫外线暴露的假设是否正确,科学家们还检查了一部分血液样本中的维生素D水平。
根据最后一段中“They als pint t nitric xide (NO,一氧化氮), a pwerful bld-vessel widener capable f reducing the risk f cardivascular disease.
通读全文,尤其是根据第一段中“The risks UV pses are real, but a new research suggests it may be time t cnsider the benefits.(紫外线带来的风险是真实的,但一项新的研究表明,或许是时候考虑它的益处了。)”以及最后一段中“The exact mechanism whereby UV light might lengthen lives is unknwn.(紫外线延长寿命的确切机制尚不清楚。)”
