On a research trip t the high-Arctic archipelag f Svalbard in February 2025, scientists were nt met by
deep snw and biting cld — but by rain and puddles (水坑). That isn’t just a freak event — it’s a sign f
      smething bigger.
The researchers frm Queen Mary University f Lndn and several Eurpean institutins have reprted what
they witnessed during their latest winter field campaign, cnfirming what climate mdels have warned abut fr
years: Winters in the area f the wrld arund the Nrth Ple are warming fast and the shift is reshaping the entire
      envirnment.
Svalbard is warming six t seven times faster than the glbal average. Winter temperatures in the regin are
rising nearly twice as fast as thse in ther seasns, which means the deep freeze nce expected in January and
February is giving way t strange thaws (融化).
“Standing in pls f water at the muth f the glacier (冰川) felt like smething happening in a dream,” said
Dr. James Bradley. “Fr the research trip, my team had prepared fr subzer temperatures. We packed heavy
glves, warm clthes and snwmbiles, but we ended up wrking barehanded in the rain, n a glacier.”

t study freshly fallen snw. “But ver a tw-week perid, we were nly able t cllect fresh snw nce. The
unexpected thaws nt nly interrupted ur sampling plan, but als made us questin hw safe r pssible winter
fieldwrk really is under such rapidly changing cnditins,” she said.
These changes dn’t just make it harder t d science — they cause widespread effects acrss entire
ecsystems. Micrbial carbn cycling is disturbed, greenhuse gases that were nce lcked undergrund begin t
escape and sme f these effects wrsen warming.
Climate plicies must catch up t the reality that the Arctic is changing much faster than expected, and winter
is at the heart f that shift. Mre investment is needed in Arctic mnitring during winter. Undubtedly,
plicymakers need t shift frm reacting t events after they happen t planning fr them ahead f time.

      A. Odd. B. Virtual. C. Inspiratin. D. Temprarily.
      13. What did Dr. James Bradley say abut his research trip in Svalbard?

      14. What can we learn abut Laura Mlares Mncay?
      A. She was relieved t see thaws in the Arctic. B. She didn’t finish her task perfectly in Svalbard.
      C. She was badly hurt during the research trip. D. She cllected enugh samples fr her missin.

On a research trip t the high-Arctic archipelag f Svalbard in February 2025,

故选 A。
James Bradley说的话“‘Standing in pls f water at the muth f the glacier (冰
川) felt like smething happening in a dream,’ said Dr. James Bradley.(“站在冰川口的积水里,感觉像是在做梦

由上文“Yu bught a bx f expensive strawberries yesterday, and there is already mld (霉菌) n them.(你昨天
Yu hesitate. It’s nearly impssible t visually
recgnize what is safe frm what culd make yu sick.(你犹豫了。
them ut r just pick ut the mldy nes?(是把它们扔掉,还是只挑出长霉的?)”符合语境,“Thrw them ut”
The mst bvius mld yu can see n the surface is just the “blm”—like the flwer f a weed, whse
E 项“This typically
happens t sft and wet fds like fruits.(这种情况通常发生在像水果这样柔软多水的食物上。)”
“This”指代前文“霉菌根部蔓延、内部繁殖”,“sft and wet fds like fruits”呼应上文的“strawberries”,
This is because prduce is mre mld-friendly than thers, and if yu wash it right frm the grcery stre,
yu risk string it with t much wet.(这是因为农产品比其他食物更容易滋生霉菌,如果你从杂货店买回来就
F 项“Bear in mind t wash yur prduce nly befre cnsuming it.(记住只在食用前清洗你的农产
符合语境,“wash yur prduce nly befre cnsuming it”与下文“if yu wash it right frm the grcery
Odds are that part f mld isn’t harmful, and even if it is, a small amunt desn’t cause serius sickness.
Still, experts suggest mnitring fr warning signs like stmachache and shrtness f breath, and seeking medical
B 项“What if yu accidentally eat mld?(如果不小心误食了霉菌该怎么办?)”
由上文“Hwever, as experts put it, “Mlds have been here lnger than us and will be here after we’re gne.”
G 项“Ultimately, learning t live with mlds is a necessary
      part f being humans.(归根结底,学会与霉菌共存是人类生活的必要部分。)”
前文专家观点,“live with mlds”呼应“Mlds have been here lnger than us and will be here after we’re
