      (2024-2025·浙江强基联盟·高二上联考)I dn’t like running. Running is a stumbling blck n my way. As an extremely sedentary-persn, I’m greatly envius f thse cral reef creatures that sit in ne spt their entire life. I’m ut here wrking fr my fd, while the cean basically has free fd 24/7.
      Still, I went int the 7-mile curse with n training, accmpanied by my ld friend Abel. This guy bikes and runs cuntless miles, ften in the same day. And he has dne dzens f Spartan Races (斯巴达勇士赛), which are curses that require yu t crawl thrugh mud, flip tires and thrw spears.
      We’ve been taken part in the race almst every year since we were in senir high. I peaked abut 15 years ag but my athletic perfrmance has been steadily declining ever since.
      That wasn’t enugh f a challenge fr Abel. When I messaged him chat t let him knw what time I’d pick him up Saturday mrning, he said he didn’t need a ride. He was ging t ride his pedals there.
      He set ut in the dark at 4 a. m, t meet us at 10 a. m. We arrived at almst exactly the same time. After biking fr hurs, he stretched a bit, then beat me by nine minutes in a7-mile run. He’s prbably nt even sre tday.
      As fr me, I did better than I thught I wuld. Between miles 4 and 5, I felt s gd that I wndered why I nly d this nce a year. Then I hit mile 6, and my bdy reminded me: the ging gt tugh.
      Usually, my breathing gives ut first. I just can’t get enugh air t keep my clumsy bdy mving. This time, it was my legs. I pushed hard, but with a mile left, my bdy just culdn’t take it anymre. Abel, n the ther hand, seemed t be maintaining a steady pace. He passed me effrtlessly. Still, I can hnestly say I gave everything I had. I slwly made my way t the finish line, feeling dizzy and n the verge f cllapse.

At the seaside std thick and tall palm(棕榈) trees with green ccnuts hanging frm them. When the ccnuts fell dwn, the children wuld break them pen and drink the ccnut water. Sami liked t play with the rabbits and squirrels jumping abut in the trees and bushes. He als liked fishing in the link pnds with his friends. It was always great fun t spend the hlidays at Grandpa’s place.
      This winter vacatin. Sami was surprised when be came t his grandfather’s village. There were hardly any trees left. What lay at the water’s edge(边缘) were nly sucks and mud. He saw huses built near the sea. Lgs(木材), branches f trees and stnes lay arund. Peple had cut dwn many palm trees and there was hardly any greenery left.
      “Grandpa, where have all the trees gne?” asked Sami.
      “Peple have cut them dwn fr wd, t be used fr fuel and furniture.” replied Grandpa.
      “There will be n mre trees then. Where will the birds perch(栖息) and the squirrels play?”
      “Let us hpe that that day never cmes,” sighed Grandpa.
      Grandpa’s huse was different. He never allwed his trees t be cut. He liked each palm tree in his curtyard. He als admired the tw big trees near the frnt dr. He called ne f them Petu, and the ther, Beta. They gave the sweetest juiciest ccnuts which he always enjyed sharing with Sami.
      One night, Sami was awakened by a strange sund. He tssed and turned in bed. Suddenly, the grund shk as if the earth was splitting(裂开). He sat up straight and then ran t Grandpa, “It’s an earthquake”. Grandpa cried ut. They ran utside the huse where they thught it wuld be safer.

      One afternn in April, I walked int a classrm as usual t guide my students, when an eight-year-ld by named Jack suddenly caught my attentin. On his desk were glue and a lt f clred paper, which he was carefully flding. Jack was an intrverted, dyslexic (诵读困难) child wh rarely spke. He was als slw t remember wrds.
      When I saw Jack at wrk with his paper and glue, I didn’t disturb him. After a while, a beautiful paper plane emerged, then he wrte smething n the wings with a pen, smiling happily.
      As sn as the bell rang, he rushed ut f the classrm, tightly hlding the paper plane in his hand. He went t the playgrund and threw the paper plane with all his might. Jack ran back and frth n the playgrund with excitement and shuted, “I did it! I did it!” This was the first time I’d seen Jack happy.
      In the fllwing week, I began t bserve Jack quietly and fund that he carried a small bag in which there were many different kinds f paper planes, frm pint y nes t lng-tailed nes t wide-winged nes. Every day after schl, he wuld g t the playgrund and fly his planes, each with different wrds written n the wings. These bservatins shwed me that Jack had strng hands-n abilities and a rich imaginatin. I felt that there was a huge ptential hidden in his little bdy.
      Hw culd I use this knwledge t build his cnfidence? I bught sme rigami (折纸艺术) bks fr him and started flying paper planes with him after schl. Jack tld me his dreams f ging t space were written n the wings f each paper plane. He said that every time he flew a paper plane, his dream wuld be ne step nearer. Suddenly, I had an idea f having a paper plane cmpetitin in class.

And then he shuted as he struck the shvel. Inspired, I fllwed him t shut ludly. Half an hur later, I felt cld all ver the bdy. And the cld air n the muntain made that wrse. My stmach began t ache. I lay in the tent, shivering, sweating and then falling uncnscius. Ry was shcked with panic. He called my name screamingly, but I just made n respnse. He tried t put me n his back t carry me hme but withut success. At last, he went ut and fund sme tree branches and blcked up the entrance t ur tent with them. Then, he ran t the directin f ur village as fast as he culd.
      Nt knwing hw much time went by, I heard sme sunds appraching near. I thught it was Ry but I didn’t hear him saying anything. In a shck, I sat up with a rush. At that mment, my eyes had adjusted t the darkness. Thrugh a hle f ur tent, I saw tw animals like dgs remving the tree branches with their muths and claws. They were wlves!
