At the start f my first lessn in Chinese calligraphy, my teacher tld me t write my name. After I put it dwn, he said, plainly: "Nw I will teach yu hw t make it beautiful." I felt my breath catch.
Grwing up in Singapre, I had an uneasy relatinship with my Chinese name. My parents are ethnically Chinese but they didn't speak Mandarin. Unfamiliar with Chinese characters, they used frtune tellers t decide my name based n the ideal number f strkes ( 笔画) fr each character, which was calculated fr the best frtune. Chinese names can be truly petic. Nt mine. Embarrassingly, the characters fr my Chinese name mean, rughly, "ld," "barley" and "warm." My persnal and cultural histries were messy knts.
When I arrived in America fr cllege at 18, I embraced critical analysis and creative expressin. It felt like a way t abandn the strict frmalities that defined my early years in Singapre's high-pressure educatin system, and with it, perhaps, parts f my identity. Suddenly, I felt the need t present myself in a way that Americans wuld accept. I put n an American accent and set aside my Chinese name. Ultimately, after 14 years in the States, I decided t learn calligraphy. Why nt get back in tuch with my heritage? I thught.
In calligraphy, the idea is t replicate (复制) the ld masters' techniques, thereby enhancing yur wn. Every week, my teacher wuld evaluate my writing. "Yu need t be braver," he nce bserved. "Yur challenge is in prducing a bld strke." Fr years, I had prided myself n develping an image f integratin and cnfidence despite deep insecurities, but my writing betrayed me.
I had been learning calligraphy t try t get in tuch with my cultural rts, but what I was really seeking was a return t myself. That first lessn came with the terrific prmise that what had been shameful in myself culd be made beautiful — and that I culd be the ne t d that wrk. I knw nw that what calligraphy teaches me is nt the value f replicatin but the pssibility that I culd knw myself mre fully.
What criterin guided the selectin f the authr's Chinese name?
Petic sund patterns.B. Ideal symblic images.
      C. Favrable strke cunts.D. Psitive literal meanings.
Why did the authr adpt an American accent?
T break with traditin.B. T fit int the cmmunity.
      C. T achieve academic success.D. T facilitate language learning.
What have we learned abut the authr's experience with calligraphy?
It revealed her inner self.B. It imprved her public image.
      C. It presented n challenge t her.D. It enhanced her replicatin skills.
What has the authr learned frm calligraphy?
Frtune favrs the bld.B. Embrace wh yu truly are.
      C. Our rts define ur identity.D. Planning is gd, but ding is better.

Many analyses, including ne cited ver 2,500 times, claimed that financial curses were f n avail. The analyses made intuitive (直觉的) sense, as many teenagers have yet t wrk r manage a husehld. But mre recent findings have shwn an ppsite picture. Research has gtten better and the curses themselves have als imprved. Studies that use the gld standard f investigatin have fund the curses are wrking well and useful in imprving financial knwledge and behaviur.
The newest survey cnducted in 33 cuntries fund peple wh take these curses learn the cntent and budget better. And pupils wh take persnal-finance curses brrw less mney. If they d brrw fr cllege, they chse lw-cst ptins. Sme wrry abut adding ne mre graduatin requirement t the lng list, but schls are willing t remve curses with less direct bearing n life skills. "When I was 20, it wuld have been nice t have this class," Ms Varga says. She gt int sme financial truble as a yung adult. "I want them t be better than my generatin."

Urban agriculture, the practice f farming within the limits f a city, is becming increasingly ppular wrldwide and is cnsidered a way t make cities and urban fd systems mre sustainable. Despite strng evidence f the scial and nutritinal benefits f urban agriculture, its carbn ftprint remains understudied.
Mst previusly published studies have fcused n high-tech, energy-intensive frms f urban agriculture — such as vertical ( 垂直的) farms and rftp greenhuses. The new study aimed t fill sme f the knwledge gaps by cmparing the carbn ftprints f fd prduced at lw-tech urban agriculture sites t cnventinal crps.
The researchers calculated the greenhuse gas emissins ( 排放) assciated with n-farm materials and activities ver the lifetime f the farm. The emissins, expressed in kilgrams f carbn dixide equivalents per serving f fd, were then cmpared t fds raised by cnventinal methds.
Farmers and gardeners at urban agriculture sites acrss the wrld were emplyed t use daily diary entries t take dwn inputs — the materials used t cnstruct farms and cultivate crps — and harvests frm their fd-grwing sites thrughut the 2019 seasn.
"By assessing actual inputs and utputs n urban agriculture sites, we were able t determine climate change impacts t each serving f prduce," says study c-lead authr Benjamin Gldstein, assistant prfessr in the Schl fr Envirnment and Sustainability. On average, fd prduced thrugh urban agriculture released 0.42 kilgrams f carbn dixide equivalents per serving, six times higher than the 0.07 kg CO2e per serving f cnventinally grwn prduce.
It's als fund that mst f the climate impacts at urban farms are driven by the infrastructure (基础设施), such as the raised beds in which fd is grwn, r pathways between plts. "These farms typically nly perate fr a few years, s the greenhuse gases used t prduce thse materials are nt used effectively. Cnventinal agriculture, instead, is very efficient and hard t cmpete with", Gldstein says. Fr example, cnventinal farms ften grw a single crp with the help f pesticides and fertilizers, resulting in larger harvests and a reduced carbn ftprint when cmpared t urban farms, he says.
What is a benefit f urban agriculture?
Sustainable fd supply.B. High fd utput.
      C. Effective energy cnservatin.D. Lw carbn ftprint.
Hw is the research data cllected?
By accessing nline database.B. By examining previus studies.
      C. By cnducting persnal interviews.D. By recrding infrmatin every day.
What culd be dne t reduce carbn ftprint accrding t Gldstein?
Increase varieties f crps.B. Extend infrastructure lifetimes.
      C. Prmte rftp greenhuses.D. Use mdern agriculture facilities.
What is the passage mainly abut?
The benefits f traditinal crps.B. The ppularity f urban agriculture.
The strategies t fight glbal warming.D. The carbn ftprint f urban farm prduce.

Early the next mrning, the drbell rang repeatedly. Standing n ur prch were the fur children frm the previus day. They vcalized their wants, chanting (有节奏地喊), “We want Ppsicles! We want Ppsicles!”
Lking int their eager yung faces, I wndered, “What have I started?” Sensing a victry, they ndded eagerly when I explained the rules: ring the bell nce, ne Ppsicle per day, and share smething gd abut their day. But their thin shulders bent dwnwards in disappintment when I mentined they had t give smething in return. I came t the rescue, suggesting they share smething psitive abut their day, like what they learned at schl r helping anther student. Over time, new rules were added: “Ladies first,” “Dn’t interrupt,” and “Prperly get rid f the sticks.”
On hlidays, they expressed their understanding f why the day was celebrated. Over the years, abut fifty yungsters visited. Sme became part f my life, like the fur kids wh jined me n the steps ne spring t read “Where the Red Fern Grws.” We discussed catching crawfish, lving pets, and family relatinships. This simple act f sharing Ppsicles transfrmed ur life, bringing jy and meaning t bth the children and urselves.

      A
      答案:A
Yu can visit his childhd hme, explre exhibits abut his life and
wrks, and experience live perfrmances in the Ryal Shakespeare Theatre"可知,游客可以在皇家莎士比亚剧院体验现场表演,即观看现场演出。故选 A。
根据"The Pabl Neruda Huse" 部分中的"I wish I knew Spanish well enugh t read Neruda's wrks in his native language"可知,作者希望自己西班牙语足够好,可以用 Neruda 的母语(西班牙语)阅读他的作品,而其推荐阅读作品是"Twenty Lve Pems and a Sng f Despair",所以这部作品可能是用西班牙语写的。故选 D。
      答案:B
      解析:推断。题目问"这篇文章是为谁写的?"。A 项"艺术评论家";B 项"文学爱好者";C项"戏剧表演者";D 项"建筑设计师"。文章介绍的是与著名作家相关的博物馆,包括在博物馆可以做的事、对应的作家作品阅读建议等,这些信息可以吸引对文学感兴趣的人。故选 B。

      答案:B
解析:理解细节推断。从第三段 I felt the need t present myself in a way that Americans wuld accept. I put n an American accent and set aside my Chinese name.

      答案:A
The newest survey cnducted in 33 cuntries fund peple wh take these curses learn the cntent and budget better. And pupils wh take persnal-finance curses brrw less mney. If they d brrw fr cllege, they chse lw-cst ptins"可知,最新调查发现,参加这些课程的人学这种内容学得更好,预算能力更强。

Sme became part f my life, like the fur kids wh jined me n the steps ne spring t read “Where the Red Fern Grws.” We discussed catching crawfish, lving pets, and family relatinships.
