The Wrld Wildlife Fund started a prgramme. It is abut t put an end t tiger paching (非法狩猎) and save wild tigers. China, tgether with 12 ther cuntries, has jined in. The aim is t duble the number f wild tigers in the next ten years.
Accrding t research by Chinese fficers and WWF, the Siberian tiger is already ne f the wrld’s mst endangered animals (濒危动物). “If the gvernment desn’t d anything, it’s quite pssible that there will be n mre Siberian tigers in China in 10 t 20 years.” said Zhu Chunguan, directr at WWF’s Beijing ffice.
Wild animals such as deer and wild bars are tigers’ main fd. The paching f these animals is the greatest danger t tigers. Traps (陷阱) are als a danger. “Vlunteers frm WWF remve traps every year, but we cannt clear all the traps urselves,” Zhu said. The mst imprtant thing peple can d is t save the animals tigers eat. “T prtect the tigers, we need t call n mre peple t stp hunting wild animals.”

One blue whale may lk like any ther t mst f us. But each animal has special spts (斑点). “We use thse spts as the fingerprints (指纹) f blue whales,” Trres Flrez says. T make the cmparisn (对比) jb easier, scientists mainly watch the area arund a whale’s drsal fin (鳍), which is n its back. “Cmparing thse spts, we are able t tell if a whale is the same whale we saw in different places r if the same whale is seen during different years in the same place,” he says.
Isabella is nt the nly blue whale t travel s far, the scientists say. Whales migrate regularly (定期地) frm Chile t the Galapags. In summer mnths, waters in the far suthern Pacific are full f krill (磷虾), but that fd disappears (消失) in winter. That’s when the whales travel nrth t warm, trpical (热带的) waters near the Galapags. There, instead f feeding, the whales give birth t babies. Scientists dn’t knw why whales like t have babies in trpical waters. Which animal is the fastest hunter n land? The answer is the cheetah (猎豹). A cheetah weighs frm 40 kg t 65 kg when it grws up. Its bdy is as lng as frm 115 cm t 135 cm. It is difficult t tell if a cheetah is “him” r “her” by its lks alne, althugh “he” seems t be a little larger than “her” and usually has bigger heads.
But yu can easily tell lepards (豹子) frm cheetahs: Cheetahs are shrter in bdy, but they have lnger tails and legs, s they seem mre streamlined (流线型的). A cheetah can run as fast as a car. And n matter hw fast it runs, it hlds its head still (不动的): This way, it can centre n its prey (猎物) while running after it. Hw des a cheetah d this?
Cheetahs have special inner ears. The inner ears are the inner part f the ears, which help the bdy stay balanced. The cheetah’s inner ears can feel small changes and send infrmatin t its head quickly. Scientists believe that, a lng time ag, cheetahs didn’t have this kind f inner ears like they d tday. They nly had thin bnes that allwed them t run very fast. Later, they grew special inner ears t help them “lck nt” their preys while running fast.
