Last week, the Ls Angeles Unified Schl District became the largest in US t pass a districtwide cellphne ban (禁止). Fr teachers, this is great news. Fr many kids, it’s less welcme. Schls have managed t perate well withut smartphnes fr centuries. Fr wrried parents, prviding their children with traditinal cellphnes, these days called “dumbphnes”, might be the best chice: schls might cnsider whether selective (选择性的) phne bans that allw such devices culd wrk. Or parents culd get even mre ld-fashined and simply call their schl’s ffice when necessary.
The next questin fr schls is hw t ban cellphnes. A ppular chice is requiring the use f magnetic bags that lck in the mrning and unlck when the final bell rings, r in case f dangerus situatins.
When smartphne bans are dne right, they can be helpful t bth schls and students. AI has caught the spirit f the times in recent years, especially since the appearance f OpenAI’s ChatGPT in 2022. As AI is catching n, it prmises t change learning fr the better.
