Hw imprtant are the first three episdes (集) t a shw? The first three episdes f a drama are crucial fr keeping viewers engaged. Tencent Vide data suggests that almst 40% f viewers abandn a shw within the first three episdes, with 35% f thse abandning it within the first seven minutes f the first episde.
But nw, the ld rules f judging a shw by its first few episdes are fading. The audience has develped frm the duble-speed watching at the beginning t the cmmentary- style (弹幕式) watching, and then t the fragmented (碎片化) watching that is appearing nw. The audience’s speed f watching shws has been speeding up.
When the audience is mre and mre casual in watching shws, we can’t help but ask, is it because shws nwadays are bad? Or is it because the audience is impatient? Fr yung peple wh are active n scial media, they have many chices. When a new shw cmes ut, they will nt watch the first three episdes, but g t Weib, Duban and ther scial media platfrms t watch shrt vide clips. When a shw can’t get ppular in the first week, it basically fails.
The pet Cleridge said “Water, water everywhere, but nt a drp t drink.” This explains the value f shrt vides: in the crwded field f infrmatin, yu can’t get any useful knwledge. Watching shws by shrt vides is different frm watching mvies r reading nvels. While we are surrunded by shrt vides, finding real knwledge is a struggle. Shrt vides ffer instant satisfactin but lack depth, finally destrying the artistic value f film and televisin. This cnstant stream f fragmented infrmatin can make us lazy thinkers.
Nwadays, peple dn’t have the patience t watch a mvie, a famus bk, r an in-depth article. Neil Pstman’s warning that we’re becming “amused t death” is prving true.
8. What des the data frm Tencent Vide suggest?

B. Viewers’ impatience with shws.
C. Viewers’ pinins n making shws.
D. Viewers’ reasns fr abandning shws.

A. The shws have becme lnger tday.
B. The quality f shws has decreased greatly.
C. Audience may nt like watching shws as befre.
D. Scial media prvides many chices f shrt vides.
10. What is the influence f watching shws by shrt vides?
A. It will reduce viewers’ cnfusin.
B. It will narrw viewers’ hrizn.
C. It will weaken viewers’ thinking abilities.
D. It will prvide viewers useful knwledge.
11. Hw des the authr feel abut the change in watching shws?
A. Wrried.B. Surprised.C. Uncertain.D. Satisfied.
D
Where were the dull sunds f flying insects hitting against the light bulb? Even the absent singing f cicadas r crickets, whichever they were, had quieted its instruments. Where have all the insects gne?
Our wn existence depends n a diverse insect wrld. Studies shw that where mre insect species are present, pllinatin (授粉) is mre reliable. As Dave Gulsn, prfessr f bilgy, pints ut in his bk Silent Earth: Averting the Insect Apcalypse, abut three-quarters f all crps grwn by humans require pllinatin by animals, the vast majrity by insects. “We culd nt feed the glbal human ppulatin withut pllinatrs,” he writes. It’s nt just abut bees and butterflies, the beautiful insects. Other, less visually appealing pllinatrs such as flies, mths, and earwigs are als shwing declines. Several f these species dn’t just pllinate. They als eat the pest (害虫) insects that ruin crps.
It turns ut that eclgists and entmlgists arund the wrld have been warning abut declining insect numbers fr years. The culprits are climate change, habitat lss, light pllutin, intensive farming, pesticide and fertilizer use.
But it’s a struggle t get peple t act. After all, we humans have a cmplicated relatinship with ur six-legged fellw cmpanins. Wh can frget the hrrr f Kafka’s Metamrphsis (《变形记》), where a travelling salesman wakes up ne mrning t find himself transfrmed int an insect? Even insects like butterflies and bees can seem strange when yu lk at them clsely. Maybe we’ve been ignring them because they seem different frm us.
Sme steps may be as simple as turning ff artificial light. A recent study in China fund that trees in Beijing, lit by street lights at night, seem t have tugher leaves. In ther wrds, insects are prbably being starved in the area.
We shuld change ur attitudes t insects. Thse annying flies hvering arund yur fd are simply ding what they were brn fr. They’re recycling. Withut them we might be wndering what t d abut rtting (腐烂的) waste. Besides, they’re fd fr birds, and UK bird ppulatins have greatly decreased in recent years.
12. What can we learn abut insects in the first tw paragraphs?
A. Insect decline threatens glbal fd supply.
B. Beautiful insects can help kill the pests.
C. Less appealing insects are n the increase.
D. Insect pllinatin affects the crp types.
13. What des the underlined wrd “culprits” mean in paragraph 3?
A. Causes.B. Slutins.C. Effects.D. Cnsequences.
14. What des the authr want t say by mentining Kafka’s Metamrphsis?
A. The bk f insects is interesting.
B. Unattractive insects are ignred.
C. Our relatinship with insects is far frm simple.
D. Insects are everywhere in ur lives.
15. What is the authr’s purpse in writing the text?
A. T explre the diversity f the insects.
B. T cmpare the different features f insects.
C. T review the histry f human-insect relatinship.
D. T warn abut the insect decline and its effects.
