Scientists in Australia have used Artificial Intelligence (AI) t help them lcate (定位) an endangered bird called the Plains-wanderer. This new infrmatin will help scientists prtect the rare (稀有的) birds.
The Plains-wanderer is a small bird that lives in Australia's grasslands. They play an imprtant rle in cntrlling insects and spreading seeds, which helps create healthier habitats (栖息地) fr ther native wildlife in Australia. The birds were nce cmmn in eastern Australia. But that's changed, as grasslands have been turned int farms and cities. Zs Victria, the grup behind the recent effrt t lcate Plains-wanderers, says the birds' numbers have fallen by ver 85% in recent decades. Scientists believe there are nw nly 250 t 1,000 f the birds left in the wild.
T prtect these rare birds, Zs Victria first had t learn where they were. Female Plains-wanderers make an unusual "Om" call, and this was the key t lcating them. The researchers set up 35 special recrding devices (装置) called "sng meters" in nine different grassy areas, where Plains-wanderers culd pssibly have been. The sng meters cllected tens f thusands f hurs f recrdings-far mre than humans culd analyze (分析). Then the researchers fed the recrdings t an AI system trained t identify (识别) the calls f Plains-wanderers. The AI system discvered Plains-wanderer calls cming frm tw f the sites. After that, the scientists duble-checked and fund that the AI system was crrect. Chris Hartnett, wh wrks with Zs Victria, says the discvery is "huge". And it is the first time in ver 30 years that the Plains-wanderer has been fund west f Melburne.
The new infrmatin f Plains-wanderers will help scientists prtect the birds. The team plans t wrk with the land wners t help prtect the birds, and the grasslands they depend n. Nw, the researchers are still "listening"—using sng meters and AI t try t lcate mre f the Plains-wanderers.

20.What is the right rder f lcating the Plains-wanderers?
①cllect enugh recrdings ②use AI t identify the calls
③set up recrding devices ④duble-check the discvery
