      When I was 12 years ld, I already knew that my teen years were ging t be the wrst years f my life. I was a ttal utsider, bullied (欺凌) at schl. I felt cmpletely alne in my small twn. But by starting t d vlunteer wrk when I was 14, I turned my prblem int a passin fr helping thers. The pprtunity t practice kindness made me feel like my life had a greater purpse. The mre psitive energy I shared, the mre kindness and appreciatin I received. I realized that my purpse in life wuld be t reach ut t peple, specifically teenagers, and help them feel less alne.
      Bks were my true friends back then. I was s thankful that the authrs wrte thse bks. The kindness they ffered me with their bks saved my life. One f my biggest dreams was t becme an authr s I culd write bks that wuld help ther teenagers the way thse bks helped me.
      After surviving terrible experiences at schl and at hme, I made a chice t take the ptimistic, psitive rad in the next steps f my jurney. My dream career, ne I thught was nly pssible fr the authrs I lved, is what I am ding nw. I have been a full-time authr f teen nvels since 2007 and am grateful fr this amazing pprtunity t reach ut t readers every single day.

      Teenagers’ fitness is nw a majr cncern, t which physical exercise is very imprtant. It reduces stress and imprves fitness. Exercise makes yur bdy strng, and helps yu t keep the right bdy weight. Sprts scientist Dr. Helen Lpez ffers the fllwing advice t teenagers: “First, yu need t find ut yur present level f fitness. Then yu can design a prgramme that will help yu becme healthier.”
      Dr. Lpez pints ut that there are three levels f fitness that need a change f lifestyle. “Overweight” means that the persn gets very little exercise and ften has a serius weight prblem. “Inactive” means that the persn des nt jin in many physical activities, but is nt seriusly verweight. “Active” refers t peple wh take part in sprts and ther physical activities, but d nt have a high fitness level.
      Accrding t Dr. Lpez, verweight teenagers shuld keep active t keep healthy. “Ride a bike, play vlleyball r basketball fr a while, and g fr a twenty-minute walk each day. All these will help t burn calries.” Inactive teenagers shuld d similar activities, but add sme bending and stretching exercises, such as push-ups and sit-ups, starting with twenty f each a day. “Inactive peple can take a little mre exercise than verweight peple because their bdies are strnger,” said Dr. Lpez. The same principle applies t active teenagers.
      Dr. Lpez suggests ne hur a week r mre n running and ther frms f intensive exercise, tgether with fifteen minutes a day spent n stretching and bending activities. “These are really imprtant in rder t prevent injuries,” Dr. Lpez said. Sme weight-training and ther bdy-strengthening exercises culd als be planned in the prgramme in rder t increase the persn’s strength.

      Many teachers believe frequent quizzes (小测验) help students better grasp classrm material. Crede, an assciate prfessr f psychlgy, was skeptical that smething as simple as a quiz culd psitively affect students’ academic perfrmance. He decided t dig deeper and cnduct an analytic study f existing research t see if there was any prf t the idea. What he discvered truly surprised him.
      Crede analyzed data frm previusly published studies that examined 52 classes with almst 8,000 students, primarily cllege-level curses, t determine if frequent quizzes imprved the students’ academic perfrmance. Labratry settings were kept ut f the study because Crede wanted t bserve whether similar studies frm labs wuld apply t general classrms.
      Crede discvered that when students are quizzed ver class material at least nce a week, they tend t perfrm better n midterm and final exams cmpared t students wh did nt take quizzes. He als fund that students wh tk frequent quizzes were less likely t fail the class, especially if they were struggling with the curse cntent. Students wh struggle the mst in a class seem t benefit the greatest frm frequent quizzes. The ther surprising thing was hw much quizzes helped reduce failure rates in classes. The chances f passing a class went thrugh the rf where instructrs used this. Instead, it is recmmended that instructrs give nline quizzes that can be autmatically graded by a curse management system.
