I’d like to recommend “Appreciation of Western Drama” as a potential topic. This course would be highly beneficial for two main reasons. Firstly, it offers a fascinating window into Western culture and history. Secondly, by reading and acting out scripts, we can dramatically improve our pronunciation and understanding of idiomatic English.I believe many students, including myself, are eager to explore the world of theater. Thank you for considering my suggestion.Yours, Li HuaVersion 2 Dear Mr. Smith,Regarding the new interest group course, I am writing to propose “English Debating Skills”.This topic is highly relevant in an academic environment and would attract many students. I believe this course would be extremely valuable. Not only would it help us structure our arguments logically and think critically, but it would also provide a practical environment to enhance fluency and confidence in speaking. These skills are crucial for our future studies. We are all looking forward to the possibility of such an engaging and challenging course.Best regards, Li Hua第二节 (满分25分)Just then, a minibus stopped before Ethan, out of which jumped Coach Schultz and the kids from the team. They shouted excitedly and ran over to Ethan, “Justine told us what happened,” Coach Schultz said. “Don’t worry. We’ll help you catch the goat.” Overwhelmed by the unexpected kindness, Ethan felt a sudden lump form in his throat. He took a deep breath and gulped. “Thanks.” Then, with Coach Schultz organizing everyone and Ethan giving instructions, they moved calmly toward Zeke and circled him. Ethan slipped the rope around Zeke’s head, led him back into his barn, and closed the gate.“Thanks, guys,” Ethan said.” I’m sorry this took so much of our warm-up time.” “It’s OK,” Coach Schultz said in delight. “Our team works well together! And I can see how responsible you are.” He clapped Ethan on the shoulder. Then he turned to other kids, continuing, “Well done, everyone! Now let’s get back to the baseball field, team. We’ll have time for a short warm-up before the game.” Ethan grinned as he added a lock to the latch on Zeke’s gate before hurrying into the minibus. Somehow, his pitching arm felt stronger than ever. Text 1 M: How may I help you, madam?W: Could you recommend somewhere to enjoy the local food near the hotel? M: Sure! You go down this road and take a right turn. There’s a popular Chinese restaurant directly ahead, just next to the mall. Enjoy your lunch!Text 2 M: Look there. It’s a mobile phone. Someone must have lost it.W: What should we do with it? Some people would want to keep it for themselves.M: We must try to find out who owns it. It’s the right thing to do. Text 3 W: The Moon has turned orange. Why does it look like that?M: I’ve learned about it in geography class. It’s because the light passes through more of the Earth’s atmosphere, especially when it’s low in the sky. So, it changes color, like a sunset. Text 4 M: I didn’t expect to see so many trees in a city.W: Trees are planted in cities to take in harmful gases and give out oxygen. They are really important.M: Sure. Trees also make cities more beautiful and people can have a rest under the shade.Text 5 M: Don’t you feel bored lying here and doing nothing?W: Not at all. I get up early to catch buses all year and spend every day in the office. I deserve to relax and get some sun. Plus, I enjoy listening to the sea.Text 6 M: Thank you. You’re very kind.W: I want to know where my money goes.M: Our charity helps those villages where there’s no clean water. W: I’m glad to help. Water is life.M: Absolutely. It’s hard to imagine not having enough water to drink or cook with, but the people in some countries have to live like that.W: We shouldn’t take it for granted.M: Every well can change hundreds of lives. Children can go to school instead of spending time walking miles to find water. W: There is a very wise saying, “You never know the value of water until the well runs dry.”M: Indeed. Text 7 W: We need to hide this bike before Jamie comes home. His birthday is still two days away, and I don’t want him to find it early. M: He’s going to be over the moon when he sees it. He’s been talking about getting a bike for months.W: Where do you think we should hide it? The storeroom seems too obvious.M: Yes, he’s always going in there. What about the balcony ?W: He goes there sometimes too. What about the garage? M: Yes. He never goes there, and we’ll lock the door just to be safe.W: Good idea. I can’t wait to see his face when he gets it. He deserves it, don’t you think? He’s been so well-behaved this year, and his grades at school have been amazing.M: Absolutely. His teacher even said he’s the best in the class, always finishing his work early.W: I’m so proud of him.Text 8 M: Wow, those diggers are huge. The way they dig up the soil and move it around is so cool.W: They’re impressive, (↘) aren’t they? (↗) These machines are helping us dig the foundations for a new office building. M: I’d love to drive one when I grow up. I bet it’s fun.W: It can be. It’s hard work too. I was attracted to big machines when I was a little girl. So, it’s worth it.M: Really? Have you always wanted to work in construction? It seems unusual for a lady.W: Yes, I started as a trainee, learning how to operate different machines. After a lot of training, I became an expert.M: Well, I love building things with my toy diggers and trucks. W: You get to see things grow from the ground up. One day, you could be out here, helping to build something huge like this.M: I hope so. I’d love to work with all this equipment.W: If you stay curious and keep learning, you can do anything. Text 9 W: Do you want to look at my dolls? I love collecting them. I have 15 now and I’m getting another one tomorrow. I have all different kinds. Some of them are old and others are modern, but each one is unique.M: It’s a nice collection. W: Sure. Especially these… Look, this one from China is wearing a traditional Chinese dress. The dress is often made of silk with detailed patterns. The colors are rich, usually in red, gold, or purple, which symbolize good fortune. What a beautiful piece of art! This is a good way to know about the traditions, customs, and beliefs of a country. M: Wonderful. I used to collect things too when I was your age.W: Tell me about it.M: When I used to go to the post office, I was always interested in the small, colorful items on the envelopes. So, I started to collect them from all over the world, and I learned a lot about different countries. Some featured beautiful landscapes, historical figures, or cultural symbols. W: That’s cool. Do you still have your collection?M: Yes, it’s in a special album. I haven’t added to it in years, but it’s still a great memory from my childhood.W: You’re right. I want to keep my collection forever too.Text 10 One sunny afternoon, Ben saw a dog when he was walking near his home. It held its tail between its legs, which Ben thought was a sign that it was scared. He gently bent down and said, “It’s OK. I won’t hurt you.” Surprisingly, the dog waved its tail just a little. It looked dirty, like it had been outside for days. He thought for a moment and then decided to take it home. After giving the dog a bath and a meal, Ben took a photo of the dog and made some posters with the words “Lost Dog” and his phone number on them. But days passed, and no one called. Ben began to grow attached to the dog, which followed him everywhere and waved its tail every time it saw him. One evening, as Ben and the dog played in the park, a lady rushed over, calling, “Max! Max!” The dog ran to her, jumping with joy. Ben couldn’t bear to let it go, but he said softly to the dog, “You’re home now.” The lady thanked Ben for his kindness. It’s a lesson for Ben. He learned that sometimes, helping others means letting go, but the good you do will always be remembered.
