Michael decided t dnate t Dunan’s GFundMe campaign, and settled n $150.
Shrtly after making his dnatin, thugh, Michael received a ntificatin frm his credit card cmpany, warning him f an unusually large transactin (交易). He swiped t pen the text message, which mentined a $15,041 charge frm GFundMe.
When he saw the five-figure number, he was bewildered. Sn, it all made sense. Michael’s credit card number started with fur and ne. Clearly, he accidentally began typing his credit card infrmatin while his cursr (光标) was still in the dnatin bx.
Michael called GFundMe‘s supprt line and explained the mistaken dnatin. T his relief, he was tld that he wuld be refunded (退款) within three t seven business days. Still, the $15,000 dnatin — which mre than dubled the ttal amunt raised at the time — wuld remain n the GFundMe page until the refund was prcessed.
Michael planned t call Dunan t explain, but befre he had the chance t d that, he started receiving Facebk messages frm Shhag Chandra, the charity's Bangladesh-based prgram manager, thanking him fr his generus dnatin. “I start swiping thrugh the man’s messages, ” said Michael, “and it is picture after picture after picture f pr Bangladeshis thanking me fr my kind dnatin. ”
After he lked thrugh the phts f peple hlding thank-yu signs that read his name, Michael’s heart sank. He felt terrible that he had t withdraw his handsme dnatin. Once his riginal cntributin was refunded, he decided t dnate $1,500.
Althugh Michael had tld his family and friends abut the typ (打字错误) tale, he decided t share it publicly n scial media, after Dunan tld him the rganizatin was desperately in need f funds. “The least I culd d was take the time t pst this stry nline and see if I culd inspire ther peple t dnate t the cause, ” Michael said.
Little did he knw, thugh, that the stry wuld be seen far and wide, ending up raising mre than $120,000 fr Bangladesh Relief in the span f nly a few weeks — abut eight times Michael's mistaken dnatin. Accrding t Dunan, mre than 3,700 peple have cntributed because f Michael’s pst.
Michael has been stunned by the nging utpuring f supprt. “Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine this reactin, ” he said. “Peple can be amazing when they cme tgether fr smething like this. ”

The Nazca Lines (纳斯卡线条) are a famus grup f huge ancient drawings in the desert in suthern Peru. The Nazca peple made the drawings by remving the reddish tp layer f rcks in the desert. This revealed the lighter dirt underneath.
The drawings are called “geglyphs (地画)”. They were usually drawn with a single lng, winding line. Many f the lines are extremely lng, and can nly be fully seen frm the air. The largest geglyph line is arund 366 meters lng. But mst f the newly-fund geglyphs are smaller than the nes already discvered, and are rughly 9 meters in length. Many f the new geglyphs seem t shw humans, as well as animals.
T find the new geglyphs, the scientists trained a special AI prgram t analyze satellite images fr likely geglyphs. The AI prgram made a lt f mistakes — fr every 36 pssible geglyphs the prgram fund, the researchers discvered rughly ne actual geglyph. Even s, the new methd turned up geglyphs much faster than the scientists culd have managed withut drnes (无人机) and AI. “What used t take three r fur years, can nw be dne in tw r three days,” said Jhny Isla, wh’s in charge f studying the Nazca Lines fr the cuntry f Peru.
The researchers are still trying t figure ut what the geglyphs mean. Masat Sakai, wh led the research, says the new discveries are helping scientists learn mre. Fr ne thing, the scientists discvered a system f paths in the Nazca Desert. These paths aren’t far frm grups f the smaller geglyphs. The researchers believe the paths were made by the Nazca peple walking thrugh the desert, and that the smaller geglyphs were meant t be seen by these travelers.
The scientists think the way these smaller geglyphs are gruped tgether may be the key t understanding them. The larger geglyphs, which can nly be fully seen and understd frm the air, are different, and may have been used fr ceremnies r ther special events.
28.What d we knw abut the Nazca Lines frm the first tw paragraphs?
A.They are bright red in clr.B.They cnsist mainly f straight lines.
C.They cme in different sizes.D.They are invisible n the grund.
29.What des Jhny Isla think f the AI prgram?
A.Efficient.B.Grundbreaking.
C.Time-cnsuming.D.Questinable.
30.What will be the fcus f the fllwing research n the Nazca Lines?
A.The functin f the path system.
B.The way smaller geglyphs are gruped.
C.The reasn why Nazca peple liked the drawings.
D.The purpse f creating the Nazca Lines.
31.What can be the best title f this text?
A.AI Tls Help Find Ancient Nazca Lines

The future f human flight arrived quietly, at a time when n ne was clcking up air miles. It was June 2020 and the skies were unusually empty, but dwn n the grund, smething huge was happening with a small aircraft. The Eurpean Unin Aviatin (航空) Safety Agency(EASA), certified a tw-seat plane made in Slvenia as safe t fly. Within a few years, the plane called Pipistrel Velis Electr was certified in the UK, the US and elsewhere.
“The achievement represents a grwing interest and trust in the reliability f electric planes,” says Dr Tine Tmazic, directr f engineering and prgrams at the cmpany Pipistrel. “We recently cmpleted prductin f ur 100th Velis Electr, marking a significant milestne fr Pipistrel and the industry.”
“The aviatin industry is imprving its carbn emissins (排放) by nearly 2% per passenger mile per year,” says Dr Guy Grattn, assciate prfessr f aviatin at Granfield University in the UK. Hwever, the glbal demand fr air transprt is estimated t duble by 2040, which means that while ther industries are shwing meaningful signs f decarbnizing, aviatin is n track t increase its ttal emissins. “S, we need t prevent aviatin becming a majrity plluter,” Grattn says. “Nw, hw can we d that?”
The Velis Electr is leading the way, but the first electric planes aren’t designed t replace large passenger aircraft. Instead, these pineer aircraft are designed specifically fr flight training, ffering just 50 minutes f flight time with 20 minutes reserve and a range f 185 kilmeters. It’s pwered by a 58kW electric mtr with tw lightweight lithium batteries.
Traditinal batteries are either t heavy r t ht t be practical fr an aircraft. Pipistrel’s system, hwever, makes the whle pwertrain safe, light and efficient. The battery weighs 70 kg and the whle aircraft weighs just 425 kg when empty.
Pilts dn’t need an additinal license t fly Velis Electr, but they’ll ntice differences. “The aircraft delivers pwer withut hesitatin,” Tmazic explains. “It uses a simplified user interface in a cckpit (驾驶舱) that maintains the same lk and feel f its cnventinally-pwered planes. The cckpit is als much quieter than with cnventinal aircraft.”
32.What des the underlined part “smething huge” in paragraph 1 refer t?
A.The small plane gt very ppular.B.The small plane was being prduced.
C.The small plane had imprved greatly.D.The small plane received fficial apprval.
33.Why is Dr Guy Grattn mentined in paragraph 3?
A.T shw the significance f Velis Electr.
B.T tell the develpment f Velis Electr.
C.T prve the grwing demand fr air travel.
D.T stress the aviatin’s cntributin t envirnment.
34.What d we knw abut the design f Velis Electr?
A.It invlves huge batteries.B.It aims t drive large aircraft.
C.It is based n glbal cperatin.D.It is intended fr shrt flights.
35.Hw des the authr mainly describe the advantages f Pipistrel’s batteries?
A.By giving examples.B.By making cmparisns.

What Came First, the Chicken r the Egg?
Chickens are ne f the mst ecnmically imprtant animals in the wrld tday. 36 , Recent advancements in archaelgical methdlgies have unveiled that numerus bne discveries, nce believed t be evidence f early chickens, actually belng t wild birds.
Nw, in a new publicatin, an internatinal team f archaelgists, histrians, and bimlecular scientists present the earliest clear evidence fr the raising f chickens fr egg prductin. Using eggshell fragments cllected frm 12 archaelgical sites cvering rughly 1500 years, the researchers shw that chickens were widely raised in Central Asia frm apprximately 400 BCE t 1000 CE and were likely spread alng the ancient Silk Rad. 37 . It was this trait f prductive egg laying, the researchers argue, that made the dmestic chicken s attractive t ancient peples
38 . They cllected tens f thusands f eggshell fragments frm sites lcated alng the main Central Asian crridr f the Silk Rad. They then used a methd f bimlecular analysis called ZMS t identify the surce f the eggs. The identificatin f these shell fragments as chickens, and their abundance at each site, led the researchers t an imprtant cnclusin. 39 . In the wild, this kind f bird nests nce per year and typically lays six eggs per clutch (窝). This is the earliest evidence fr the lss f seasnal egg laying yet identified in the archaelgical recrd. Meanwhile, it is an imprtant clue fr better understanding the mutualistic (共生的) relatinships between humans and animals that resulted in dmesticatin
Taken tgether, the new study suggests an answer t the age-ld riddle f the chicken and the egg. 40 .
A.T reach these cnclusins, the team did a lt f wrk.
B.The abundance f eggshells further suggests that the birds were laying ut f seasn.
C.Yet, the stry f hw they riginated and spread thrughut the ancient wrld remains largely unclear.
D.Research shws chickens were bred thrughut suthern Central Asia, and were spread alng the ancient Silk Rad.
E.The birds must have been laying mre frequently than their wild ancestr, the red jungle fwl
F.They argue that the lss f seasnal egg laying was the main drive fr the spread f dmestic chickens acrss Eurasia and nrtheast Africa
G.As the evidence in Central Asia suggests, the ability t lay a large number f eggs is what made the chicken the chicken we knw tday.
