Researchers frm the Faculty f Data and Decisin Sciences at the Technin have develped a technlgy capable f identifying varius aspects f a reader's interactin with a text that is based nly n their eye mvements.
The team's findings were presented at Assciatin fr Cmputatinal Linguistics (语言学), a cnference in the field f Natural Language Prcessing (NLP) in Vienna. The research was led by dctral student Omer Shubi,tgether with master's student Cfir Hadar, under the directin f Dr. Yevgeni Berzak.
Peple read texts with different gals. Whether it's a nvel, a cking recipe, a newspaper article, r a scientific paper, each type f text can be apprached with varius intentins. Tw cmmn reading gals are general cmprehensin(regular reading) and infrmatin search.
The researchers develped cmputatinal mdels that cmbine eye-tracking with text prcessing. These mdels can accurately detect a reader's purpse with abut 90% accuracy, and nearly 80% accuracy within just tw secnds frm the mment the reading started.
Accrding t Dr. Berzak, “This study is part f a brader research prgram in which we are develping AImdels that infer, in real time and frm eye mvements alne, key aspects f the reader's linguistic knwledge,their interactin with the text, the difference between a first and a secnd reading, the readability f a given text,and even the specific infrmatin the reader is seeking.
“These studies pave the way fr new methds in assessing linguistic knwledge, persnalizing texts accrding t the reader's linguistic and reading ability, imprving accessibility t textual infrmatin fr varius ppulatins,and mre.”
