When I was 14, I fund myself in truble fr nt ding my hmewrk, which led me t Rm E fr schl punishment. My teacher, Mr. McDnald, placed a stick n my desk and tld me, “Think f as many ways t use this stick as yu can.” When I lked puzzled, he smiled and gave me a tip: “Imagine yu are smene r smething else — a baby, a dg, r a bird — and lk at the stick again.”
That mment stuck with me. T this day, I cnsider it the best punishment I ever received. Mr. McDnald’s advice — “Lk at the stick with different eyes” — is a great intrductin t the cncept f Umwelt, develped by German bilgist Jakb vn Uexküll.
Uexküll’s Umwelt refers t the idea that every living creature perceives the wrld differently, based n its bilgical makeup and hw it interacts with its envirnment. There is n “ne” bjective wrld; instead, every creature experiences its wn versin f reality. Take bees, fr example. T a human, a flwer is just a beautiful bject with pleasant clrs and fragrances. Hwever, fr a bee, flwers are much mre than that. Bees can see ultravilet (UV) light, which humans cannt. In a bee’s wrld, flwers reveal intricate UV patterns that act as rad signs, leading them t nectar (花蜜). This UV-rich envirnment helps bees find fd and pllinate (授粉) flwers, ensuring bth their survival and that f plants.
Similarly, humans als experience the wrld thrugh their wn perspectives (视角), shaped by what they care abut and find meaningful. Imagine sitting thrugh a dull presentatin, barely paying attentin. Suddenly, the speaker mentins a tpic that directly interests yu, and yu becme fully engaged. Uexküll’s idea teaches us that peple, like bees, cnnect with the wrld in unique ways. The key takeaway fr presenters is t craft their messages t appeal t different interests. By ding s, they have a better chance f reaching and engaging a diverse audience.
4. What advice did Mr. McDnald give t the authr fr using the stick?
A. Think frm new angles.B. Discuss ideas with thers.
C. Write dwn quick thughts.D. Observe the stick clsely.
5. What mainly shapes the way bees perceive flwers?
A. The patterns n the flwers.B. Their ability t detect UV light.
C. The envirnment where they live.D. Their experience f finding nectar.
6. What shuld presenters d t engage their audience?
A. Keep presentatins shrt.B. Fcus n just ne tpic.
C. Use fewer technical terms.D. Adapt t different interests.
7. Which f the fllwing is the best title fr the text?
A. Shifting Perspectives: The Pwer f Seeing Differently
B. Uexküll’s Umwelt: Hw Reality Defines Living Beings
C. UV Visin and Beynd: Hw Bees Experience the Wrld
D. Learning frm McDnald: A Lessn f Bsting Creativity
【答案】4. A 5. B 6. D 7. A
