“The Five-Starred Red Flag flies high…” Whenever we hear the sng, we will sing alng. The sng is called Ode t the Mtherland (《歌唱祖国》). It was written by Wang Xin.
On Octber 1,1949, Wang Xin attended the Funding Ceremny (开国大典) f the Peple’s Republic f China. He was deeply mved and decided t write a sng at nce fr New China with his lve and pride. He had many ideas but nne was gd enugh t him.
One day in September 1950, n the way t Beijing Railway Statin, Wang Xin walked past Tian’ anmen Square. The mment he saw the Five-Starred Red Flag flying in the wind, a few wrds fr the sng came int his mind. On the train back t Tianjin, when he saw the fields and muntains utside the windw, the main part f the sng began t take shape, “Over the muntains, acrss the plains (平原)…”
When Wang Xin arrived hme, he said with excitement, “I made it! I made it!” He cmpleted the whle sng right away. The next mrning, he went t a lcal newspaper, hping t get the sng published. But it wasn’t accepted.
