On the first night f the new mn, I stand beneath an inky expanse f sky at a Nrthern Califrnia campsite. The darkness is s prfund that my utstretched hand vanishes befre my eyes. It’s nt just an absence f light I’m experiencing: the darkness feels tangible, with a weight and texture f its wn.
The mst well-knwn benefit f the darkness is the rle it plays in releasing melatnin (褪黑素). This critical hrmne desn’t just help us sleep, but can als reduce DNA damage by bsting the bdy’s wn genetic repair machinery. Evidence als reveals that the magic we feel in the darkness is clsely assciated with better mental health.
My wn fascinatin with the dark began in Octber f 2022, when I fund myself flating in a raft (木筏) in the Arctic Sea. Our expeditin guide had mtred ur rubber raft away frm the artificial lights f ur larger ship, turned the uter engine ff, and instructed us t be silent. My shipmates and I lked up int the enrmus night sky as stars mved in the black space abve. The darkness was s dense that I culdn’t tell up frm dwn, r where the night sky ended, and the inky sea began.
I felt a surge f psitive feelings flwing thrugh me as I gazed at the stars n that dark Arctic night.
The experience changed my relatinship t darkness. As smene wh’d always enjyed the idea f ging t bed early t get a gd night’s sleep, I decided t turn ff artificial lights and electrnic devices earlier in the evening. I als began wndering what “dse” f dark each night was ideal fr my health.
Artists, pets and sngwriters have lng understd ur fear f the dark as well as the cmfrt it can bring us. Fr me, it’s the Simn & Garfunkel hit sng, The Sund f Silence — which starts ff with the line “Hell darkness, my ld friend” — that captures the essence f why escaping the light is necessary at times. It reminds us that sme f ur mst prfund mments f healing and insight happen in the dark.
24.Which f the fllwing statements abut darkness is NOT TRUE?
A.It can better ur sleep quality.B.It can imprve ur mental health.
C.It can prtect us frm DNA damage.D.It can change ur damaged genes.
25.What des the Arctic experience shw abut the authr?
A.He initially feared ttal darkness.B.He discvered a new scientific phenmenn.
C.He regretted jining the expeditin.D.His perceptin f darkness shifted greatly.
26.What can we learn frm the last paragraph?
A.We shuld escape the light all the time.
B.Artists, pets and sngwriters fear darkness.
C.Darkness brings sme beautiful mments t us.
D.The Sund f Silence captures the essence f light.
27.Which can be the best title f the passage?
A.My Arctic Adventure: A Night Under the Stars.
B.Beynd Fear: The Unseen Benefits f Darkness.
C.Art and Science: Hw Darkness Heals Us.
      D.Melatnin: Nature’s Repair Mechanism.
Are yu a shrt vide app user? Chances are that yu’re mre familiar with 15-secnd sped-up clips f sngs than with the riginal tracks themselves. This trend has been evident n scial media platfrms, ntably Duyin and TikTk, where creatrs bst the rhythm by 25-30 percent t match shrt viral vides featuring dances r ther themes.
These altered versins have even pushed sme musicians t the tp f fficial singles charts. As a Radi l Anthems hst tld the BBC, althugh sped-up versins f sngs can help artists g viral, that initial success may nt last This isn’t just abut music. Scial media users als accelerate pdcasts, mvies, etc. fr quicker cnsumptin. The sped-up mde prvides a faster way t achieve the dpamine (多巴胺) rush that scial media aims t spark, leading t addictin and influencing ur actins.
While it seems efficient, speeding up cntent has significant drawbacks. “S many peple wrked hard making specific decisins abut pacing, lighting, timing and music, and speeding that all up just ruins it,” a Reddit user cmmented. Anther user als mentined that if smene cnsumes cntent this way, their viewpint f the mvie r the sng is nt valid.
It seems that peple speed up cntent nt because they enjy mvies and sngs but rather simply t cmplete the actin f “watching” and “listening”. It’s as if they’re telling the creatrs: “I dn’t have the patience t care abut all the detailed design and subtle emtins yu put int the wrk.” All they want is a quick general idea f “what’s ging n” and a feeling f “ww, I just cnsumed anther piece f infrmatin”.
Evidently, this apprach weakens creatrs’ effrts and erdes peple’s patience. Hwever, peple ften fail t realize that this als destrys their patience with life. Beginning with sped-up sngs and mvies, it gradually creeps int daily life. A Chinese netizen nce shared, “I fund myself becming impatient with ding research fr my wrk r preparing fr a test,” highlighting hw this habit extends t lnger-term tasks.
We already live in a fast-paced sciety, yet we still try t speed it up in every aspect. What’s the rush? Sme things shuld nt be sped up, like ur patience fr beauty and hard wrk.
28.What might be a pssible result f sped-up sng versins n scial media?
A.They bst the ppularity f riginal sngs.
B.They decrease the cnsumptin f shrt vides.
C.They lead musicians t tp fficial singles charts.
D.They help musicians maintain lng-term success.
29.Frm Reddit users’ perspectives, what impact des speeding up cntent have?
      A.It reduces audience’s appreciatin level f art.
B.It enhances the dpamine rush fr better md.
C.It ffers a mre effective way t grasp the cntent.
D.It damages media’s wrks and devalues cnsumers’ views.
30.What des the underlined wrd “erdes” mean in Paragraph 5?
      A.Tests ut.B.Uses up.C.Wears away.D.Calls fr.
31.What is the authr’s attitude twards the trend f speeding up cntent n scial media?
      A.Negative.B.Psitive.C.Objective.D.Ambiguus.
Fr mre than 20 years, NASA instruments in space have tracked a grwing imbalance in Earth’s slar energy budget, with mre energy entering than leaving the planet. Much f that imbalance can be pinned n humanity’s emissins f greenhuse gases, which trap heat in the atmsphere. But explaining the rest has been a challenge. “Nbdy can get a number that’s even clse,” says Gerge Tseliudis, a climate scientist at NASA’s Gddard Institute fr Space Studies.
But Tseliudis and his team nw explain the gap with data frm a lng-lived satellite, finding the wrld’s reflective clud cver has shrunk, bsting glbal warming. Climate scientists need t figure ut the causes f these clud changes and whether the trend will accelerate warming in the future.
Cluds cme in all shapes and sizes, but tw f the mst cnsistent clud bands are frmed by Earth’s large-scale airflw patterns. One band, near the equatr, stretches arund the planet like a belt. It frms as trade winds (信风) f the Nrthern and Suthern hemispheres meet, frcing mist air upward t cl and turn int cluds. Anther band ccurs in the midlatitudes (中纬度), where jet streams bring strmy weather arund the planet.
In August 2024, Tseliudis and his cauthrs reprted that ver the 35 years cvered by weather satellite imagery, the equatrial (赤道的) clud bands had narrwed, while the tracks f midlatitude strms had shifted tward the ples, limiting the regin in which they can frm and shrinking their cverage. But the result, published in Climate Dynamics, was pieced tgether frm many different satellites, each with its wn features and errrs, which made the researchers unsure whether the small trends they detected were real.
The same mdels that predict a narrwing f the equatrial strm belt als suggest climate change will cause air ver the eastern Pacific Ocean t warm faster than the west, weakening an imprtant branch f the large-scale circulatin. But fr the past few decades, the eastern Pacific has actually been cling, strengthening these winds instead. Other bservatins, meanwhile, suggest the rest f the circulatin is weakening. The cnfusin makes it hard t knw whether the clud bands will cntinue t shrink as the wrld warms.
32.What des Paragraph 3 mainly discuss?
A.Tw glbal clud bands and their frmatin prcesses.
B.Hw different latitudes affect clud shapes and sizes.
C.The cnnectin between weather and clud frmatins.
D.The rle f earth’s atmsphere in creating clud patterns.
33.What des “pieced tgether” in Paragraph 4 cnvey?
      A.The equatrial clud seemed islated.
B.The research data may lack reliability.
C.The research riginated frm jint effrts.
      D.The bservatin used advanced techniques.
34.Which phenmenn cntradicts climate mdels’ predictins?
A.The expansin f the clud bands.B.The strengthening f trade winds.
C.The cling f the eastern Pacific.D.The weakening f the circulatin.
35.What is the authr’s purpse f writing the passage?
A.T explain hw greenhuse gases influence glbal warming.
B.T shw the imprtance f satellite imagery in climate research.
C.T present the ptential impact f glbal slar energy imbalance.
D.T intrduce a new pssible reasn fr Earth’s energy imbalance.

根据第二段“This critical hrmne desn’t just help us sleep, but can als reduce DNA damage by bsting the bdy’s wn genetic repair machinery. (这种关键的激素不仅能帮助我们入睡,还能通过增强人体自身的基因修复机制来减少 DNA 损伤。)”可知,黑暗有助于睡眠,并能通过增强身体自身的基因修复机制来减少DNA损伤。根据第二段“Evidence als reveals that the magic we feel in the darkness is clsely assciated with better mental health.( 研究结果还表明,在黑暗中所产生的那种神奇的感觉与良好的心理健康状况有着密切的关联。)” 而D项“It can change ur damaged genes.(它可以改变我们受损的基因)”未提及;因此D项说法不正确。故选D项。
根据第五段“The experience changed my relatinship t darkness.( 这段经历改变了我对黑暗的看法。)” 以及本段中“As smene wh’d always enjyed the idea f ging t bed early t get a gd night’s sleep, I decided t turn ff artificial lights and electrnic devices earlier in the evening. I als began wndering what “dse” f dark each night was ideal fr my health.( 作为一个一直喜欢早睡以获得充足睡眠的人,我决定在晚上更早的时候关掉人造灯光和电子设备。同时,我也开始思考每晚适宜的黑暗程度对我的健康究竟有多重要。)”可知,作者之前可能也重视睡眠,但这次经历让他更加关注黑暗本身对健康的作用,从而主动减少夜间人造光源的使用,并思考理想的黑暗“剂量”。这表明他对黑暗的感知发生了巨大的转变。故选D项。
26.推理判断题。根据最后一段“Artists, pets and sngwriters have lng understd ur fear f the dark as well as the cmfrt it can bring us. (艺术家、诗人和词曲作者们早就深知我们对黑暗的恐惧,以及它能给我们带来的慰藉。)”可知,黑暗既能带来恐惧也能带来慰藉。再根据该段最后一句“It reminds us that sme f ur mst prfund mments f healing and insight happen in the dark.( 这让我们明白,我们那些最为深刻的成长与顿悟时刻往往发生在黑暗之中。)”

根据第三段中““S many peple wrked hard making specific decisins abut pacing, lighting, timing and music, and speeding that all up just ruins it,” a Reddit user cmmented. Anther user als mentined that if smene cnsumes cntent this way, their viewpint f the mvie r the sng is nt valid.(一位Reddit用户评论道:“很多人都在节奏、灯光、时机和音乐方面费尽心思做了细致的设计,而把这一切都加速播放只会毁掉它。”
根据全文内容,尤其是最后一段“We already live in a fast-paced sciety, yet we still try t speed it up in every aspect. What’s the rush? Sme things shuld nt be sped up, like ur patience fr beauty and hard wrk.(我们已经生活在一个快节奏的社会中,但我们仍然试图在各个方面加速它。急什么呢?有些事情不应该加速,比如我们对美和努力的耐心)”可推知,作者对社交媒体上加速内容的趋势持否定态度。故选A。

根据第三段“Cluds cme in all shapes and sizes, but tw f the mst cnsistent clud bands are frmed by Earth’s large - scale airflw patterns. One band, near the equatr, stretches arund the planet like a belt. It frms as trade winds (信风) f the Nrthern and Suthern hemispheres meet, frcing mist air upward t cl and turn int cluds. Anther band ccurs in the midlatitudes (中纬度), where jet streams bring strmy weather arund the planet.(云有各种形状和大小,但有两个最稳定的云带是由地球的大规模气流模式形成的。一个云带靠近赤道,像一条带子一样环绕着地球。它是由南北半球的信风相遇形成的,迫使潮湿的空气上升冷却并变成云。另一个云带出现在中纬度地区,那里的急流带来全球性的暴风雨天气)” 可知,该段主要讨论了两个全球云带及其形成过程。故选A。
根据第四段“But the result, published in Climate Dynamics, was pieced tgether frm many different satellites, each with its wn features and errrs, which made the researchers unsure whether the small trends they detected were real.(但发表在《气候动力学》上的这一结果是由许多不同的卫星拼凑而成的,每颗卫星都有其自身的特点和误差,这使得研究人员不确定他们检测到的小趋势是否真实)” 可知,由于数据来自多种有不同特点和误差的卫星,所以这些数据拼凑起来,其可靠性存疑。故选B。
根据最后一段 “The same mdels that predict a narrwing f the equatrial strm belt als suggest climate change will cause air ver the eastern Pacific Ocean t warm faster than the west, weakening an imprtant branch f the large-scale circulatin. But fr the past few decades, the eastern Pacific has actually been cling, strengthening these winds instead.(预测赤道风暴带变窄的相同模型也表明,气候变化将导致东太平洋上空的空气比西太平洋上空的空气升温更快,从而削弱大规模环流的一个重要分支。但在过去几十年里,东太平洋实际上一直在降温,反而加强了这些风)” 可知,东太平洋的冷却与气候模型预测的东太平洋空气升温更快相矛盾。故选C。
35.推理判断题。根据第一段“Fr mre than 20 years, NASA instruments in space have tracked a grwing imbalance in Earth’s slar energy budget, with mre energy entering than leaving the planet. Much f that imbalance can be pinned n humanity’s emissins f greenhuse gases, which trap heat in the atmsphere. But explaining the rest has been a challenge.(20 多年来,美国国家航空航天局(NASA)的太空仪器一直在追踪地球太阳能收支中日益加剧的不平衡,进入地球的能量多于离开地球的能量。这种不平衡在很大程度上可归因于人类排放的温室气体,这些气体在大气中捕获热量。但解释其余部分一直是个挑战)” 可知,地球存在太阳能收支不平衡问题,且已知部分原因,还有待解释的部分,为下文引出新原因做铺垫。根据第二段“But Tseliudis and his team nw explain the gap with data frm a lng - lived satellite, finding the wrld’s reflective clud cver has shrunk, bsting glbal warming. Climate scientists need t figure ut the causes f these clud changes and whether the trend will accelerate warming in the future.(但 Tseliudis 和他的团队现在用一颗长期运行的卫星数据解释了这一差距,发现全球反射性云层覆盖面积缩小,加剧了全球变暖。气候科学家需要弄清楚这些云层变化的原因,以及这种趋势未来是否会加速变暖)” 可知,明确指出 Tseliudis 团队发现云层覆盖缩小这一可能导致地球能量不平衡的新因素。所以文章先提出地球太阳能收支不平衡存在待解释部分,接着阐述 Tseliudis 团队发现云层覆盖变化这一新因素,下文围绕此展开相关讨论,所以作者写作目的是介绍地球能量不平衡的新可能原因。故选D 。

Dad’s first sht arched beautifully, swishing thrugh the net with that perfect “swsh” sund we bth lved. “Beginner’s luck!” I teased, “Watch this ne!” But my sht was ff target. Dad grabbed the rebund with surprising agility. “Pressure ges t yu, champ?” He winked, lining up his next sht—anther nthing-but-net. “Wha, what a sht!” Dad said. He did a little victry dance, lifting his hands and waving them ver his head. “Best f five?” I challenged, secretly thrilled t see his real smile emerge — the ne that crinkled his eyes and shwed his slightly crked tth. Just as he was abut t take his third sht, Mm’s vice cut thrugh ur laughter that dinner was ready.
“Anther sht tmrrw!” Dad said, “Mm is waiting fr us t have dinner nw.” S, the three f us headed upstairs fr dinner. Dad gave my shulder a firm squeeze, his callused palm lingering fr a secnd lnger than usual. “Thanks, kid.” he murmured, the rughness in his vice betraying smething deeper than wrds culd say. The time we’ d spent n the driveway — laughing, missing shts, celebrating the ccasinal swish — had dne smething I hadn’t seen in mnths: they’d brught him back t himself. When he was happy it felt like everything fit int place, including the basketball, which drpped thrugh the net withut even tuching the basket. The pandemic may have taken Father’s clients and incme, but when he std befre the fading backbard and released that perfect arc, we recgnized nce mre the magician with light in his eyes.题号
