Many marine species(海洋物种) depend n specific rutes t migrate(迁徙). The rutes ffer these seafaring travellers the right cnditins, at the right time f year, t guide them thrugh the ceans. We humans try t discver the rutes and have drawn ur wn lines, but they are nt clear t us because f unexpected changes in nature.
T find ut the rutes that migratry marine species regularly take, a research team f scientists in Australia and the US have nw created an interactive map that shws the paths cnnecting cean habitats(栖息地).
The new map, named the Migratry Cnnectivity in the Ocean(MiCO), cllects data and makes it easier fr scientists t see where migratry marine species may be falling int the paths. "MiCO cnnects almst 2, 000 imprtant habitats and shws the imprtance f crss-bundary teamwrk," says the research team. They find that all f the species recrded in MiCO have less prtectin at sme pint in their life histry because f different situatins in different cuntries. That means n cuntry is able t fully prtect migratry species if there is n help frm thers. "Fr example, green turtles nest in Csta Rica and migrate nrth thrugh Nicaragua and ut t islands in the Caribbean," the team says. "Althugh largely prtected in Csta Rica, it is allwed t fish fr turtles in Nicaragua and huge numbers are lst ff the cast there every year."
