Anxiety has fllwed me arund like a lst dg lking fr a bne fr years nw. I feel it the mst strngly when I’m wrried abut my health r my daughter’s health. I feel an unusual sensatin and all f a sudden: panic! My wrries are nt limited t health cncerns thugh, and they g in the directin f anxiety abut the future f the wrld, wrries abut my finances, and fears that I’m nt gd enugh.
Let me g back a few decades, back t when anxiety wasn’t part f my life. When I was a child, I lved art. I drew and I clred because that’s what I enjyed. I went t cllege t becme an art teacher. When I finished schl in May f 2001, I had a part-time design jb, and after the event f September 11th, 2001, I knew I needed t travel, t get ut f the safe life I was living in my hmetwn. That’s when my creative practices fell by the wayside.
Luckily, after the birth f my daughter in 2014, the desire t create came back. At first, I was using a tiny crner f a bedrm in ur rental huse t paint. Eventually we bught a huse, and I had the space t spread ut, ready t paint whenever the urge struck. That’s when I started nticing smething imprtant: Painting stilled me in a way that nthing else did. It eased my fears and anxieties in a way ther practices (deep breathing, etc) did nt, at least nt as cnsistently. When anxius thughts start, I knw what t d. I head int my studi, grab sme materials, and start creating. Sn enugh, the wrries are gne and instead my mind is quiet.
I think the reasn why painting is s helpful fr my anxiety is that, in rder fr me t be anxius, I have t be wrrying abut the future and what it hlds. When I’m ding an activity that requires my full cncentratin, I have t be in the mment. It desn’t matter if yu’re artistic. The nly thing that matters is finding a way t be here, in the nw, instead f in the unknwable future.

The invasive species, als called intrduced species r freign species, is any nnnative species that significantly changes r damages the ecsystem it invades. Mst intrduced species d nt survive extended perids in new habitats, because they d nt pssess the necessary adaptatins t adjust t the challenges psed by their new surrundings. Sme intrduced species may becme invasive when they pssess a built-in cmpetitive advantage ver native species in invaded areas. They change native fd chains and in sme cases even get t the tp f the fd chains, which means the ecsystem lacks natural enemy capable f keeping them in check. Under these circumstances, new arrivals can get the chance t reprduce in large numbers.
The eclgical damage that tends t fllw such invasins ften reduces the ecsystem’s bidiversity and causes ecnmic harm t peple wh depend n the ecsystem’s bilgical resurces. Invasive species may be s gd at catching preys that victim ppulatins decline ver time, and many victim species die ut in the affected ecsystem. Other invasive species, in cntrast, may prevent native species frm btaining fd, living space, r ther resurces. Over time, invasive species can effectively replace native nes, ften frcing the lcalized extinctin f many native species. Invasive plants and animals may als serve as disease carriers that spread parasites (寄生虫) and viruses that may further d harm t the invaded area.

In the midst f an already recrd-breaking heat wave, Phenix, Arizna, set a particularly eye-ppping recrd: the temperature nly drpped t 97 degrees Fahrenheit vernight between Tuesday and Wednesday, setting an all-time recrd high fr a nighttime lw. When temperatures stay high vernight, they place a particularly heavy burden n the bdy, raising the risk f heat illness and death.
The U.S. —and the wrld—has seen a spate f extreme heat s far this year, including the planet’s httest-ever June and httest week n recrd during the first week f July. A heat dme has been in place fr weeks ver the U.S. Suthwest and Texas, and it has fueled many heat recrds. Phenix has nw seen 20 days in a rw with a daytime high f 110 degrees F r higher, a recrd that is likely t cntinue fr several mre days. A heat dme is an area f high pressure that parks ver a regin. High-pressure ridges, as they are als called, feature sinking air, which cmpresses and heats up. These ridges’ typical clear skies als allw the sun’s rays t beat dwn n the grund, further raising temperatures.
Prlnged heat extremes pse a majr public health threat because heat is the number-ne weather-related killer in the U.S.; it causes mre human deaths than hurricanes, trnades and flds cmbined. Heat can cause dehydratin, which leads the bld t thicken and makes the heart pump harder. That rgan and thers can be damaged by t much expsure t heat.
The saring, triple-digit high daily temperatures grab the headlines, and they definitely are a cncern—but when temperatures nly drp int the 80s and 90s at night, the bdy desn’t get a chance t cl dwn. This is particularly a cncern fr thse wh lack air-cnditining, including unhused ppulatins. And heat is especially a health risk fr the very yung, the elderly and thse with preexisting health cnditins such as asthma and heart disease.
32.What can be inferred frm the first tw paragraphs?
      A. Extreme temperatures can cause damage t ur hearts.
      B. Burning fssil fuels cntributes t the httest-ever June and July.
      C. El Nin is the dminant cause f saring glbal temperature.
      D. The temperature at night has reached a recrd high in Phenix, Arizna.
33.What is a heat dme accrding t the passage?
      A. It’s a weather phenmenn that cntributes t high temperatures.
      B. It’s a peak that the lw pressure shuld reach.
      C. It’s the damage caused by t much expsure t heat.
      D. It’s the extra heat trapped in the sinking air.
34.Accrding t the passage, what’s the influence high vernight temperature has n humans?
      A. It is the tp ne killer in America.
      B. Human rgans might be impaired.
      C. Expsure t heat cntributes t heart diseases.
      D. Peple accmmdate t 80s and 90s Fahrenheit at night.
35.What’s the passage mainly talking abut?
      A. Saring temperatures are hitting the headlines.
      B. Ht vernight temperatures threaten human health.
      C. A new eye ppping vernight lw recrd is set.
      D. Glbal heat waves are causing cncerns.
