      My family didn’t talk much abut my grandfather when I was grwing up. He had been a dctr in the British Army and served in the First Wrld War. While many families had relatives in the British Army wh fught n the frnt, it wasn’t smething yu need t talk abut with pride. It’s nly as an adult then that I have started t lk deeper int my grandfather’s life.
      After graduating frm medical schl in 1906, my grandfather wrked as a resident surgen at the Waterfrd Hspital fr 12 mnths befre jining the Ryal Army Medical Crps and starting his first tur f India.
      Over the next several years,he served in Rawalpindi, Ferzepre, Multan, Rangn and Mandalay.
      The First Wrld War began n July 28, 1914 and tw weeks later, my grandfather was n active service in France and Belgium. He was captured(俘获)at Landrecies n Octber 18, 1914 and was kept in prisn at Sennelager Prisner f War Camp in Germany. Fllwing his release n June 26,1915, he returned t Lndn.
