Sme peple are wrried that wearing masks will have a bad effect n children’s ability t learn language and scialize. Even parents ften wrry abut hw a schl year withut smiles might negatively(消极地) influence their children.
These wrries are understandable, but accrding t Dr. Danvitch, a research psychlgist, wh studies the cgnitive(认知的) and scial develpment f children, wearing a mask at schl culd imprve certain scial and cgnitive skills, helping t strengthen abilities like self-cntrl and attentin. Take language learning as an example. It’s true that masks cver ur muths and that seeing muth shape and mvement helps babies learn language. But learning hw t cmmunicate invlves a lt mre than muths. Lking at eyes is at least as imprtant as lking at muths t understand the peple yu are lking at and what they are trying t express. Children als make use f ther signs t figure ut what new wrds mean and what ther peple are thinking. A classrm full f peple wearing masks is a great chance fr children t practice paying attentin t thse signs, such as a classmate’s tne f vice r a teacher’s bdy language.
Wearing a mask can als help teach children t pay mre attentin t their wn bdies and physical behavirs. Keeping a mask n ver the curse f a schl day invlves the kind f self-cntrl that many children find challenging. Needless t say, children will nt always be perfect at keeping their masks n, but they have t be mindful f when their masks are slipping dwn r when it is OK t take them ff. The research n self-cntrl suggests that children wh master the skills needed t keep their masks n will grw up t be better at achieving their lng-term gals.
Perhaps mst imprtantly, wearing masks during a pandemic(流行病) is a chance fr children t practice caring fr their cmmunity. A recent study shws that children understand the spread f illness better than ever. Wearing a mask gives yung children the ability t d smething t help prtect ther peple. Fr lder children, mask-wearing is a way t teach them abut duty and sacrifice(牺牲). They believe that it feels gd t make sacrifices fr peple in need. Stressing that the discmfrt and incnvenience f mask-wearing are frms f caring and public service might encurage children t address ther scial prblems in their lives.
In fact, hw children feel abut wearing masks at schl, and hw much they benefit frm wearing them, are ging t depend n hw the parents, teachers and caregivers arund them present the tpic. Masks are hpefully nt here t stay, but while they are still necessary, we shuld make the mst f them.

Sme peple are wrried that wearing masks will have a bad effect n children’s ability t learn language and scialize. Even parents ften wrry abut hw a schl year withut smiles might negatively(消极地) influence their children.
